What an improvement!

by mkirkwag , Jul 19 '06
Pros: Works as advertised. Easy and convenient. Odorless.
Cons: Would like version with a smaller diameter and a drip catcher that stays in place.
I bought my Can O' Worms from someone who had given up vermi-composting. I had been 'verming' in milk crates lined with weed cloth and loosely covered. It worked, but barely. It dried out constantly. I finally surrounded the whole thing with a plastic ...

My first and last worm bin, unless I go commercial! :)

by setthecontrols , Jun 09 '06
Pros: -Tough construction -Easy to get started -Plentiful worm castings -No maintenance
Cons: -Spigot knob is flimsy
I received the Can-o-Worms five years ago as a house warming present. I read all I could (Vermicomposting websites, Worms Eat My Garbage) before getting two pounds of red worms in the mail from Happy D Ranch. Being a complete newbie I followed the ...

Best worm bin, hands down!

by blbasaj , Feb 27 '07
Pros: Easy to use, maintains a constant moisture level, not prone to fruit fly infestations.
Cons: Spigot breaks easily. Bin layers can be heavy to handle while harvesting.
I bought my first Can-O-Worms about 7 years ago, because traditional compost bins were not working for me. I quickly got the hang of it, by following the directions included. Always a penny pincher, though, I tried making my own bins out of ...

Terrible Experience

by cvb2007 , Apr 17 '07
Pros: Nice idea and fairly solidly made.
Cons: Huge design fault or very confused inhabitees.
I had one in London. Followed ALL the instructions and positioning restrictions but had the most awful and really disturbing experience with it. I was full of hope but could only handle it for 8 months or so. In short, the worms kept going to the ...

It's the best worm composter out there!

by glennrd , Nov 05 '01
Pros: Great design and easy to use. Best for homes with 3-5 people.
Cons: Only comes in black
The Can-O-Worms composting system is an easy-to-use stacking tray composter. The worms eat their way up the trays leaving the rich vermicompost and worm castings behind. When all 3 trays are full, you simply removed the bottom tray of rich organic...

Can-O-Worms

by rhealady , Nov 17 '01
Pros: Best starter system I have seen, easy to use, durable.
Cons: Worms don't always go up to top level.
This was my first worm purchased worm bin. It lived in the kitchen for the first year with no odors or problems. Easy to tend with a three-prong garden fork.

With three levels, even if you make a mistake and overfeed, there are two other...

great unit

by bconifer , May 21 '07
Pros: design (3 shallow trays), size, construction
Cons: draining of excess liquid always messy for me
the smaller size of this bin and its shallow trays seem to work better than other size bins. The type of worm that are used for vermi-composting live only in the top few inches of soil, so deeper bins don't make sense: the "compost" below the top ...

great composter
by magifus ,Mar 14 '04
Pros: Great, well designed product. No smell or mess and easy to start and maintain.
Cons: A little large if you don't have an out of the way place for it.
I actually lucked out and found this on the curb so I didn't have to foot the cost of purchasing it. I tried making a bin last year from a plastic bin and while it worked O.K., it sometimes got stinky and dripped and when the weather got warm the worms died off. The can-o-worms however has given me excellent results. No smell, very easy to use and set up and minimal picking through worms and decomposing garbage in order to harvest compost. We are a family of two vegetarians and started out with a pound of worms. They are reproducing and seem to be doing fine. I no longer add onion peelings (smell) or much citrus fruit because of acidity but all other vegetable peelings, rice, bread etc. go in and wonderful compost and compost tea comes out. We keep ours in our mostly unheated basement with good results.
I highly recommend this sturdy, easy to use product for an environmental way to get rid of your kitchen scraps!
