Pros: Easy setup, high quality, fast!, quiet, solid Cons: Manual in HTML only
Summary: I simply love the Canon CanoScan 4200F flat scanner for prints and films. It's fast (both in scanning and transferring to the PC), quiet, and has superb scan quality, esp. on 35mm negatives. (I haven't tried scanning 35mm slide films.) Setting the ... read more

Pros: Very fast and quiet, capable stable software, excellent transparency and film scans, cheap Cons: Slow to warm up. Only scans two transparencies at once.
Summary: What's it useful for? I use my scanner mainly for photocopying, but I also want to archive all my old transparencies and photos in digital form. I will therefore specifically comment about these two uses, both of which the CanoScan 4200F handles ... read more

Pros: Slick installation (software first!) and slick operation. Everything works right. Cons: Not much negative to say. A $500 film scanner might be better for slides.
Summary: Load the software before you plug the machine into the computer. I don't know what happens if you don't because I heeded the dozen stickers and boldface warnings. The reward was one of those rare everything-works-like-it-shoul

Pros: Quiet, Reliable, easy to use, and affordable Cons: I haven't found one yet.
Summary: I bought the Canon CanoScan 4200 F Scanner because I needed a scanner that would scan film negatives well, but was cheap. This scanner worked well. It's simple and easy to use and comes with a variety of software choices. Not to mention, the film holder

Pros: Fast, sharp pictures, vibrant colors Cons: Proprietary USB cable.
Summary: Fast scanner, sharp pictures, vibrant colors. The scanned colors are a little different from the original but not enough to be a problem. The software is simple but adequate. The USB cable uses a proprietary connector at the scanner end. This may be a

Pros: Scans 35mm slides. Good imaging quality. Cons: BIG issues with USB 2.0. Tech support is a joke.
Summary: I purchased the Canon because it is one of the least expensive scanners I could find that would scan 35mm slides. It does do this very well. However, Canon claims it will use USB 2.0 -- this is not necessarily true. The scanner will work on USB 1.1 (VERY

Pros: Price, speed after it's warmed up, and button functions Cons: Need better driver software to allow for more graphic files
Summary: I had an older HP 5200c scanner that needed to be upgraded. I recently purchased this 4200F Canon scanner because of its good ratings from Consumer Reports for speed, resolution and price. However, when I scanned a black and white drawing, the only

Pros: Quality of the results
Speed
Ability to scan slides and film Cons: Software isn't intuitive
Colour tone is wrong at times
Summary: I guess a lot of people choose a brand. I bought this because my experience of the brand has been of good quality at an affordable price. I did look at other brands but what clinched this for me was the opportunity to put slides and film into it.
