Best camera I ever had
by smortazavi ,Jul 14 '05
Pros: Fast, true colors for printing, different setting, perfect all a round camera
Cons: None so far
I bought this canon XT 350 about 3 weeks ago, with Sigma zoom lens 28-300, I have taking pictures left and right, I love it.
I love the setting, I read the manual, very easy to learn and
master. Lots of features. Good color for printing, I do not need to color correct or adjust anything. I have seen pictures
from other cameras, let me tell you most of them are bad colors are off either too blue or too pink, but this one gives me more of natural colors. The only thing I can think of is the flash, I probably need to buy a bit stronger flash for my camera.
I will strongly recommend this camera, and you can buy it from internet shopes and save tone on money, check with resellerratings.com to find out about their ratings.

Great camera in almost all the conditions!
by ncsbm ,Aug 27 '06
Pros: great quality, easy to use, long last battery, reliable on most shooting conditions.
Cons: It is difficult to shot fast moving object on low lights.
After bought at last Xmas, I took it to a three weeks trip last months. During the travel, I took over 1,200 pictures with it. The shot condition were all kinds including during the dark night without flash light, the sunny day, cloudy day, speed bus moving, and raining days. The shot 90% of times were not failed. The pictures were really caught the moment and with good quality 90% times. The only time when pictures didn't turn right were when the light was not enough or with enough light, but the objects were moving too fast. Blurriness on some pictures were the only complain I had for this camera.

With more than 2,000 photos for the first 8 months using, I am very happy with the camera. The battery lasts much longer than I expect. With some basic reading and using Canon camera and some common senses on operating it, I think this camera is very easy to use. If you are first time user on digital, you shouldn't worry too much. The beauty of this one is that you can operate in very dummy way or you can play with those various settings like pro.

Rebel XT
by indigo3455 ,Apr 21 '05
Pros: Great photo quality. Love bigger lens! (Than most digital pocket cameras.)
Cons: I have an Elan and I like the fact I can reuse accessories.
Great camera been looking at it for weeks finally got one. I love it!

However,
If you have any Canon compatible accessories such as a lens or maybe a flash that does not say Canon. The camera knows and they do not work on this camera. I have a Quantaray Zoom that I used to use with my Elan and the rebel won't take a photo with it. (I knew I should have spend the extra dough on the Canon!)

Great Camera
by sccrthlt ,Oct 22 '06
Pros: Good walk around camera. Lightweight, low noise,
Cons: Pop up flash a little harsh on faces. 3 fps little slow, better with 5fps.
-The Rebel XT is my first digital slr and i'm very impressed. For an entry level slr this is the best you can choose.

-I bought my camera with the 70-300mm IS and the two paired together makes an awsome tandem.

-I did a lot of research on the d-70s and the xt and I decided to go with canon since I have had experience with Canon over the past few years. I am very impressed with Canon.

-The camera is well built even though some people say its to small. Other people with bigger hands than me might prefer a bigger camera.

-Its a good candid and walk around camera.

-Considering it's an entry level slr it has barely any noise that i can notice even if I blow it up a lot.

Cons

-The pop up flash is a little harsh on people's faces. I would recommend getting the 430EX flash.

-The max 3 fps is a little slow. Would be better with 5 fps.

A camera that excites
by stevesshots ,Sep 04 '05
Pros: lightweight, fast shutter, looks, features
Cons: at this point I have none whatsoever
I love my first Digital SLR, and am a previous Rebel 2000 film camera owner.
I did shop and compare but felt the Canon dependable name and the exchangeable lens that I already had were the the deciding factors. I am totally pleased with the camera and its many unique features. I particularly like its small compact size and light weight, making it easy to carry and pack away.

great price, great resolution, lotsa bang for the bucks
by sadie2 ,Dec 21 '06
Pros: great resolution, reduced price, great features, free software, small and light.
Cons: none so far
Since Canon reduced the XTs price to promote the XTi, the Rebel XT and the Nikon D50 were priced the same. I chose Canon Rebel XT since it had higher resolution and more features. Very compact and light for a DSLR. Since I had a film SLR from years ago and then bought a Sony point-and-shoot, the Rebel wasn't hard to learn. I handled several DSLRs for comparison at Ritz Camera and Circuit City and found the Rebel XT fit my hands but didn't weigh me down. I bought the 18 - 55mm lens and a 70-300 for when we go to Bosque del Apache. With 8mp and Canon quality, I think this camera should more than meet my hobbyist needs for quite awhile.

350D --- I love it!
by tomcruzner ,Dec 27 '05
Pros: Quick and easy! Lots of Lens!
Cons: little small on the hands
This camera is cool! The stock lens and flash are ok but I bought a speedlite 430EX and 70-300 IS USM telephoto lens for long shots... nice gadget and just enough technology to get me going and still wanting to learn more! This camera is way cool for the photography enthusiast! Pictures are sweet!

Highly usable Camera with a substandard flash.
by schattke ,Nov 25 '05
Pros: What you see on the click is what you get Long battery life, ~300 pictures.
Cons: Indoor flash makes halos on blond hair. Outdoor use of LCD is too dim.
I really like the point and shoot speed of this camera.

Most pictures turn out all right. Outdoors the clarity is outstanding.

Indoor pictures with the flash DO NOT TURN OUT WELL when the subject has blond hair. The flash pours a sheen on the hair that looks totally unnatural. I get better results off my much older Sony Cybershot DSP-70.

Overall I am happy with the camera. I will get an upgraded flash to hopefully fix the halo effect on the blond hair. The add on flash unit costs a few hundred more but will allow me to subdue the lighting indoors by bouncing off a ceiling.
I got a 70-300mm lens with the image stabilization that does an awesome job. The image stabilization is a WOW feature. I wish the supplied lens had it.

The SLR timing of pictures is great. Unlike the cheap digital cameras, you always get the smile you see. The lens options are outstanding and the upgrades are numerous.

I went with a 2GB SD card (514 pictures) but a 1MB card would have been fine. It's no problem to snap a couple hundred pictures in a session.

Excellent camera but get body only
by rupertthebear ,Aug 19 '05
Pros: Takes nice picture, lightweight, compact, focuses tolerably well
Cons: non-standard battery, button labels rub off the body
I love my XT although there are some criticisms - none of which detract from its overall merits.

I'd prefer that the aperture be controlled by a ring rather than by a button and an up/down dial.

I'd prefer that the internal display didn't switch itself off all the time. Maybe I didn't read the manual thoroughly enough.

I find the print on the body below the two buttons at the top right of the back has rubbed off (had the camera for 2 months) so much that they're now just anonymous black buttons.

There are too many controls and features. I'd like to see the camera re-manufactured as a straightforward manual camera with manual aperture and shutter speed control and no automation in any direction.

Smile and say Chicken
by klx69 ,Aug 01 '05
Pros: Good photos
Cons: limited metering opions
A low price boosts the Canon EOS Digital Rebel's appeal for amateur film-SLR photographers going digital and high-end snapshooters who want to experiment
Photo enthusiasts who want a relatively inexpensive interchangeable-lens SLR. Aggressive price; excellent, low-noise images; speedy performance; long battery life.

Disappointing didn't live up to my expectations.
by rebel_xs ,Feb 12 '06
Pros: Fast startup, excellent continuous shooting.lots of versatility.
Cons: The output image quality is terribly soft, photos lack punch crispness.
I often wonder if there is something wrong with my REBEL XT considering most feel the image quality is very good. The images from in camera are soft and lacking saturation. You can certainly do a lot of post processing and improve them but then i didn't spend 2'000$ to spend alot of time on my computer.
I can back this up because my daughters Fuji Finepix images look so much better when I put them on my pc.
I purchased my kit with the 17-85 lens so theres no excuse for this. This is supposed to be a lot better than the kit lens. After using this camera extensively for a year i've given a lot of consideration to going back to my film camera. The other things I didn't like were it's tendency towards overexposure often. Some controls poorly laid out and difficult ,awkward to change.Build quality cheap and grip too small, lcd hard to see.
