Pros: Improved sensor and AF system, faster response, large viewfinder, flash control, quieter mirror, price, ... Cons: Some consider the changes "too little", no integrated wireless flash controller
One of the most anticipated dSLR cameras in 2007 is without a doubt the new EOS 40D. With the 30D being more of a refinement than upgrade of the venerable 20D, rumors went rampant on what the 40D is going to look like and when it's released. With most of ...
Pros: Great build quality, good feel in your hand, self-cleaning sensor, and live preview. Cons: Important functions buried within menus, Ergonomics, slightly less mega-pixels than competition.
I don’t always do things in the right order, and don’t always follow the typical pattern. My entry into the DSLR market is an example of just that. I purchased the Canon 40D after several years of using a point and shoot Sony F828. While the ...
Canon 40D VS 50D, or Why did I return my 15 MP 50D and kept its 10MP bro…I’ll leave all camera body details and the list of features for the magazines and get right to the question: Which camera should I get? (Note: I have ...
Canon reputation for quality and professional features in a unit simple enough for amateurs.
Cons: Heavier, larger than an entry-level SLR. Buttons can be accidently pressed in normal use.
This review is intended to help an amateur evaluate the 40D to decide whether or not to step up to this professional-level camera. The Canon EOS 40D is a professional-level Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera that produces very high quality ...
Pros: Does a great job of walking the line between a professional and entry level DSLR. Cons: Easy to hit dials and accidently change settings
I would consider myself a semi-pro when it comes to photography. I've spent the last three years using the 5D and have finally worked up enough business, to where it's time that I purchase a backup camera. The 40D is an obvious choice. I had ...
Pros: Build. Strong images for Auto shooter; pristine ones for experienced amateur/pros. 6-plus frames per second. Cons: There's a newer big brother available now. Could use expanded ISO range.
This body is tough, but not weatherproof. Its heavy, in a confidence-inspiring way. And it makes GORGEOUS images. Its not the newest in Canon's prosumer DSLR lineup, so its more suited to the serious amateur looking for value, not the ...
Pros: High speed sports photography Exposure is right on No shutter lag. press and shoot. Cons: A bit heavy. Occasionally misses focus.
I've had this camera for about 6 months and I am very happy with it. It is my first digital slr. I've coupled it with two high end Canon E lenses and the results are impressive.
I recommend that you buy the separate canon flash for bounce. the Canon 580EXII is perfect for fill in daylight as well as low light.
I recommend that you get the silicone cover (from third party). It comes with a screen cover to protect the camera screen.
Be sure to get a second battery. When you battery shows it is low, you don't have too much shooting time left.
Photos have been cropped and enlarged to 8x10 with no signs of pixalation.
I have purchased SanDisk extreme IV 4gb (very high speed) memory as well as the III 8gb (medium speed). I have not seen a difference between the two. Go for the 8gb and get the extra photos, you will not miss the speed. Perhaps if I shot more sustained action photos...
Pros: Durable construction, controls are laid out nicely, takes excellent photos. Cons: Camera is heavier than I am used to, large learning curve.
The Canon 40D is my first digital SLR camera. I have had it for 2 months. I upgraded from the Lumix DMC-FZ7 as my interest in photography escalated and I wanted more out of a camera. I love this camera. The photos look professional. It focuses quickly and quietly. The menu is easy to use. The LCD is large and easy to read. There are many settings/features for you to play with..and you can even program your own custom settings. I think this camera offers more bang for your buck when you compare it to a similar Nikon or Olympus. I am glad I chose the 40D.
