Canon Power Shot A530
by denisemoore81 ,May 03 '07
Pros: good picture quality. easy to take pictures.
Cons: goes through batteries fast
I got a canon Power Shot A530 for a gift From My husband. I like the camera a lot but it seems to go through batteries fast. My mother who is not good at working with new electronics has been able to use this camera easily. i have not been able to take a good pic of the moon yet with it. I have not been able to get the camera to take a good night picture. But that might have been my fault. Every thing else has been great. picture quality is good and it takes good video. The camera is easy to use and it is also easy to change the memory card. The camera is easy to download pics with.

Canon PowerShot A530
by garfield135 ,Dec 11 '06
Pros: Small body, good feel, good video and audio and pictures, and good zoom.
Cons: LCD is quite small.
I got this camera for my trip to Europe for about $190 at Dell (I had a $25 coupon so it was really $165.) I really liked this camera. The 16 megabyte SD card that comes with it is stupid ; you can only take 4 or 5 High Quality pictures.
The camera feels good and solid unlike cameras that feel plasticy. The LCD is lacking in size and could be slightly better quality. The audio and video are quite good for a camera that's not even made to take serious video.

The specs are as follows:

5 megapixels (2590 by 1920)
4 optical zoom (and 4 digital zoom but the digital zoom lowers the picture quality. I call it "crappafieing zoom :) )
Perfect size to fit in any hand (unless you're a Munchkin or Godzilla. I doubt you are ;) )

This camera is good. Very good.

Canon A530
by chgod ,Aug 25 '06
Pros: Ease of use, picture quality, value.
Cons: LCD small, washes out in sunlight.
Purchased in May 2006. Main reason was that I was always somewhat partial to the Canon brand. Not at all disappointed.

Good picture quality in normal light situations. Loads of different settings, tho I just leave it on automatic and still get good results. Viewfinder is a little on the small side and washes out in any kind of sunlight, but this is common.

Like the use of AA batteries. Good life with 2500 mah NiMh's. And you can use standard AA's in a pinch.

This camera fits between the ultra-compact and the DSLR's. You won't get the quality of a DSLR but then a DSLR won't fit in your pocket and this camera won't put a crease in your neck.

Great Camera and Service!
by legendaryfive0 ,Feb 20 '07
Pros: They support their warranty, has good battery life, and plenty of features.
Cons: Whatever went wrong that made me use the warranty(but it was probably something I did).
I recieved a Canon Powershot A530 for my birthday/hs graduation. I didn't know much about digital cameras at the time, but I read about them once I got it and this one is great. 5 megapixels is plenty, and good optical zoom. Only uses 2 AA batteries and I got a set of rechargaable ones and they last a while. One pair of batteries lasted me my whole trip in Hawaii. Unfortunately something went wrong a while ago while I was messing around with some settings and it completely shut down. But I sent it in under warranty and they actually fixed it free of charge and returned it to me. All I had to pay for was the shipping to get it to them. Other than that, it's a great camera with a lot of features. I love it.

This camera is a great everyday camera!
by frugalmomma ,Mar 17 '07
Pros: A great camera for everyday shots! And it won't break your bank account!`
Cons: The negative is you really need to read the whole manual.
I love this camera. It fits in my purse great and it was great on my budget. It takes movies, photos and uploads to my computer easily. I got a great deal from Dell at the time it was my Birthday present for myself. The only thing I don't like about this camera is it is difficult to get it set up for dark indoor shots and long distances. Everything else about this camera is amazing!

Everything I needed in a camera
by slganado ,Oct 09 '06
Pros: intuitive, fast and takes great pics
Cons: none so far
I bought an A530 after enduring many years of "2 seconds too late " photos with my cheap Kodak easy share.

I'm not knowledgeable about cameras and cannot comment about the intricate details and functions. What I know is that this camera is very intuitive, fast and takes great pics.

When my dad was looking for a camera, I recommended this same model to him.

Good overall camera
by mwalke46 ,Sep 12 '06
Pros: Good for casual photographers or professionsals alike, and durable
Cons: Long wait time for picture taking
When I got this camera, I didnt know a thing about digital cameras because I had never owned one. Yet, it was easy to become acquainted with all the features and settings on the camera. Despite its easy to use capability, the camera can still be used by the most professional of photographers because it can put on several different detailed or manual settings. I just happen to put it on automatic so the camera does all the work for me and it still takes excellent pictures that no non-digital camera would ever be able to take. The clever grip and precise crosshairs in the viewfinder provide for very accurate shots. The only qualm that I had with this camera is that you have to wait about 2 seconds for the picture to take and even longer if there is a flash. I know a lot of cameras are like this, but it is particularly annoying if one has to take a very fast picture of something before it goes away.

Canon A530
by marvinpud ,Jul 20 '07
Pros: Lightweight, Great Picture Quality
Cons: Durability
Had this camera for 9 months. After one drop hitting the lense the wrong way it was done. Loved the camera and got a lot of use out of it. I'd take a full 200 pictures without a flash on a new set of batteries. It held up fantastically except for that one weak spot. Don't let it hit the ground on an angle but that really goes for all cameras. Canon is an amazing brand but with cameras get the protection plan if you can.

Canon Powershot 530 not as easy as it should be to use
by themadcatter1 ,May 11 '09
Pros: Takes good pictures.
Cons: Frustrating to set up.
I've been using my little camera for 6 months now and continue to have problems with setting it up for shots. I have discovered the settings do not always hold from shot to shot. For instance I'll want to take a shot using the self-timer (which is not all that easy to find to set up) and after taking the shot it may revert back to non-self-timer. The flash setting never stays if you select any other setting and you have to remember to reset it if you need it. It takes great pictures and has good color once you get it set but a lot of time is spent behind the display window fussing with all the buttons. At the time of this writing I am totally frustrated with the camera and will have to take it to a shop because it's in some mode I can't get it off of and is basically unusable. To bad, the camera has great potential.

Great Canon camera as usual
by erniev ,Mar 31 '06
Pros: 5.0 Mega Pixels, simple interface, good ergonomics
Cons: Battery/memory cover awkward, camera is bulkier than some, occasional long delay between shots
Things I liked:
- Really beautiful shots
- Nice grip on the camera allows for confident, steady shots
- Decent sized LCD screen
- Low light focus assist lamp. My $400 Kodak camera doesn't even have this feature and it shows..
- Simple button layout on the back of camera
- One touch printing when directly connected to the printer.
- Variable intensity flash output (Programmable mode). Allows for fill-in flashing and not have it overpower the shot.
- Ability to set picture size to 4x6 postcard. No cropping during printing
- Good software for moving the pictures to your computer and printing as well.

Things that could use improving:
- There can be up to a 10 second delay before the next shot. This delay is not consistent and 10 seconds is the longest I've had to wait.
- The battery life in this camera is not as good as the Elph series. Turning on and off the camera a lot seems to suck them up pretty good.
- Mode wheel on the top of camera is stiff. My mom had trouble turning it.
- No ability to force the flash on when in Auto mode

decent camera for a reasonable price
by pravinkn ,Apr 12 '06
Pros: Works with just 2 AA batteries.
Cons: Zooming distance doesn't seem to be that great.
Last month, i purchased 3 Canon A530 camera for my friends in India. The main reason was that they wanted a 5Mega pixel canon camera for less than $250 and this model fitted the bill perfectly. This model had apparently replaced some of the old obsolete canon models. On top of it had a nice exterior finish , needed only 2AA type batteries and had 4x zoom. I purchased this from Circuit City in Dulles,Virginia for $229. Comes with extra software photo editing utilities, however if you are using Windows XP, you can upload the photos without installing the software.
Needs some time and reading manual to figure out all the features.

Good one for the money
by sriram_vr ,Jun 13 '06
Pros: worth the money, 2 AA
Cons: Bad night shots,small LCD
I bought this camera 1 month back from BuyDig.com, This is really good one, i upgraded from Sony DSC p51, i found this far better than that (Obviously thats pretty older model).
i took this to my recent San Antonio trip and had taken atleast 300 pics and all the pics had come out really well, the only thing i did not like was the pictures taken at night which was totally shaky and had a very bad lighting.
being a very recent model, could have atleast a 2 or 2.5" LCD
