Cons: Do Not Buy!!! Battery compartment is too small for rechargeable batteries!!!

This camera is very user friendly, but so are most in this category. Only one flaw, which I feel makes it a "Do Not Buy" camera, is the battery compartment. It is so small and tight, that rechargeable batteries with a thick cover will not fit.
Do Not Buy! Find a camera that will easily accept rechargeable batteries!

I've had this camera and have used it for about three weeks. It is feature rich. There is nothing else in the price range with a 4x optical zoom/6 mp that can offer such a range of use - from beginner to advanced. I did my homework on this one. The movie picture with audio is a real plus. This gives you the ability to take high quality stills and not have to lug a video camera along for the motion shots (unless you wanted to do extended motion). My previous camera is a Pentax Optio 3.2 mp. Much harder to use and controls are built for tiny fingers. No audio on motion shots either. So I graduated up to 6 mp; doubled the quality for a camera that costs less than half of what the Pentax cost 3 years ago.
The SD memory card the Powershot takes is the smallest and least expensive. I picked up a 1GB card on sale at Officemax for $15.00 and it gives me over 1500 pictures and lots of room in movie mode.

I bought this camera last month, and so far I've had absolutely no problems.
Before this I owned a Fujifilm Finepix A205, which quit suddenly for no obvious reason. That camera had only 2 megapixels, so the 6 megapixels on this Camera is wonderful!
I bought this camera mainly for the features it had. I've tried almost all of them, and I am completely happy with the results. It was worth the money I paid.

Cons: Flash is too close to the corner and can easily be obstructed by a finger.

When looking for a new camera, I wanted a camera that took stellar photos but also had point and shoot convenience. The first thing that impressed me about the A540 was its small size and feel. This camera easily fits in my jacket pocket and real easy to use. The case is also pretty sturdy unlike my old Kodak Digital Camera that literally fell apart after a year. Second, the photos are absolutely amazing! The auto-set feature selects the best mode possible for the shoot and makes taking great pictures in any light. For the true photo enthusiasts, you can manually set the camera to just about any setting imaginable. This camera is great for both amateurs and experienced photographers.
The camera can also shoot digital video that is of pretty good quality. You can also adjust the resolution of the video to save memory space or have great quality.

The camera offers an amazing amount of features for the price. I strongly recommend this camera.

After reviewing the comments left here, I bought this Canon and love it. It is easy to use and takes awesome pictures. They print without being grainy and very focused. I have to delete very few, usually because i didn't set it for the lighting, because it seems to take good pics in all sorts of conditions. I dropped it a few weeks after I got it, which is usually the end of a camera for me. But to my surprise it didn't wreck it at all. Couldn't ask for a better low price camera. I have had mine about 9 months and can't believe I went so long without it.

Cons: Canon's customer service makes its products worthless.

I am amazed that there are so many glowing reports when thousands of owners have experienced a fatal flaw with the lens. Canon refuses to stand behind its product in spite of a threatened class action suit by disgusted customers. Don't purchase any Canon products. Questions, Google Canon A540 lens error!

I've been using this camera for a month and it is perfect!
I couldn't wish for more.

Battery life is AWESOME!! I can't understand why some people complain about it. I bought 2600MAh rechargeable batteries and they last very long. Some days ago I took 630 photos and 220 of them were taken with flash on without changing the batteries. and LCD was always on!! And pictures were playbacked several times!! It is fantastic!!

LCD quality is quite poor but it's not a big problem.

Pictures are great! Taken outdoors they are fantastic, indoors they are ok especially with flash on.

In low light conditions pictures could be better. They are quite grainy but with software it is easy to edit them.

Manual controls and manual focus is a great pro. :)

I'm more than just satisfied with this camera!!

I bought this camera just before my son was born and it's great! It is very reliable and easy to use. In my experience, the batteries seem to die quickly. I bought rechargeable batteries and haven't had a single problem with this camera. I would strongly recommend this camera to anyone!
