Solid Choice.

by kahlerp , Nov 14 '07
Pros: Durable, good looks, easy to use.
Cons: Weak flash, low battery life, poor video quality.
Sick of buying expensive electronics that break down easily, this camera was bought with the promise of lasting a lifetime. It has lasted 4 years and still is a reliable camera. Sleek looking, durable, and with a simple display, I would recommend ...

Not a great camera

by astravitz , Dec 05 '05
Pros: Excellent start up time.
Cons: Camera shake, Flash is noticiable. No battery meter. Terrible TV Video display.
I always wanted to own one of the Canon Digital Elph's, so I purchased the SD400 to replace my Sony P5. My Sony had consistently taken great pictures and even had a email copy mode to store a second low resolution picture for web posting or email. I ...

Canon PowerShot SD 400
by michelleanne5 ,Nov 27 '07
Pros: Quality, Size, Durability, Price, Ease of Use
Cons: Haven't found any yet!
I love my camera! It has very easy to use settings. From close up digital macro to far away all of the picture are of wonderful quality. I received this as a present 4 years ago. Its so small, I carry it in my purse at all times. Its so light weight, durable, and easy to use, my five year old uses it. It takes pictures and videos. To sum it up I would definitely recommend this camera to anybody and everybody.

Super Fast, Super Small, Super Good
by manu08 ,May 12 '06
Pros: Speedy response, unlimited video recording, commendable photo quality, superb tiny size.
Cons: None
It's a tiny camera, honestly its like the size of the new sony ericsson phones & the photo quality is commendable. Speedy response times, but that I cannot confirm for 'every' camera cause I actually did get a very speed card to go with it which kinda adds a boost to the speed. Video recording is only limited by the size of the card & it has got a respectable frame rate. Overall its a very good camera, I would recommend this for anyone looking to buy a digital camera though NOT for a person looking for advanced settings. For the price nothing will come even close to it !

Great and small but battery problem
by dookaraki ,Feb 09 '06
Pros: Extremely small and discreet. Short charge time. Durable; capable of withstanding many falls.
Cons: Short battery life. finger blocks flash if not careful.
Though extremely small, this camera was extremely durable. I could easily stick it in my pocket and not worry about it getting damaged. The only downside was the battery life. The battery would die even if you weren't using the camera. It was almost as if the energy wasn't really "stored" but constantly being let out. Canon made up for this battery problem by making the charge time very very brief (probably just an hour). Highly recommend for trips to places where bringing an expensive camera would worry you. Many different manual settings.

A Definite Winner
by hleonard4113 ,Jun 24 '05
Pros: high quality photos with realistic colors, small size, lightweight, good controls
Cons: flimsy battery cover, flash a little too bright sometimes
I purchased this camera to replace my 2MP Canon Powershot S10. I have had that camera for years and have been very satisfied with it, except I wanted to upgrade. I looked at many other manufacturer's cameras but chose to stay with Canon because of the quality. My new camera takes beautiful pictures that have realistic colors. I am surprised at how well indoor pictures look. The only negative I have seen is that the flash is sometimes a little too good when shooting up close. Other than that, this small, pocketable camera is a winner.

Large camera in a small body
by chevychase43 ,Dec 10 '05
Pros: 2" LCD, metal construction, ease of use, quality
Cons: need to buy additional memory, comes with 16MB.
The Canon SD400 is an awesome camera. Metal construction large 2" LCD and 5 megapixels. It takes very clear pictures, is very easy to use. It has limited manual controls which I prefer and you can start taking pictures without even reading manual.

SD400 is A+++. Compact size, fast processing, great images!
by eju ,May 17 '05
Pros: Small size, fast processor.
Cons: Flimsy hinge on door covering USB port.
I was torn between the SD400, the SD500, and sticking with my existing S-400. I made the leap to the SD400 and am very happy. Compared to the S-400, the SD400 has:

-smaller body size
-faster processing when reading and writing images
-higher megapixel resolution (5.0 instead of 4.0).

Compared to the SD500, the SD400 has

-a slightly smaller body size
-lower price
-no visible resolution difference for prints smaller than 8x10".

Are there any cons? Just a few minors -- the flap covering the external USB port could be stronger, whereas it's instead hinged with rubber. In addition, the viewfinder is not a perfect match with the image shown -- although it's definitely fine for everyday use.

All in all, a great camera!!!

Awesome Camera with Tons of Features...
by jcomblo ,May 11 '05
Pros: Image quality, size, solid construction.
Cons: Some red-eye on pics, 12x zoom isn't outstanding.
I researched a new digital camera for months before deciding to buy the SD400. I narrowed my choices down to two 5 megapixel cams: the Canon or the Sony W5. The Sony was a bit too bulky and memory costs were too high, so I bought the Canon. The size and Canon name sold me. I've been using this camera for about two weeks now and it does everything that I want it to and more. The picture quality is outstanding in every mode, the ease of use is phenomenal, and it's compact and easy to take anywhere. I never intended on using the video feature when I bought the SD400 but it's nice to have and the videos are great quality, rivaling my Sony Mini-DV. I haven't messed around with the manual features yet but I bought a digital camera for mostly point-and-shoot situations. I don't think you can go wrong with this camera if you're looking for a 5 megapixel model.

Excellent camera. Very HAPPY.
by arqmasiu ,Oct 08 '05
Pros: Excellent battery life and fast shutter fire.
Cons: Small screen.
I buy a digital camera every year. I had strayed away from canon because it use to take a good second or two before the pictures snapped. Now with the SD400 the shutter fires immediately after you press the button. Also great battery life.

My favorite thing in the world
by carolyn0219 ,Sep 02 '06
Pros: Compact, convenient, easy, crystal clear, impressive, full of features, bargain, addictive, big screen, perfect.
Cons: If you leave it at home, you will miss it. :(
I love this camera. There is not one thing that I would change. I literally carry it everywhere I go, in a little samsonite cell phone case I bought at Target for $4. I always have it at parties and gatherings, which we otherwise would have no pictures of. Also, it is nearly impossible to take a blurry or otherwise "off" picture.

I do recommend buying an extra battery, so that you never have to worry about running out of power when using the camera excessively, like on a road trip. I also keep extra memory cards just for organizational purposes, but that's not necessary.

This camera is small, impressive looking, and has everything you could need. The pictures amaze me still, and I've had this camera for about 18 months. It is easy to use, and I recommend reading the instructions on the various features so that you use them to their fullest potential. The digital macro (I use for nature close-ups) and color accent features are particularly impressive.

No, I don't work for Canon, nor was I camera-crazy before this purchase.

Professional's advice
by thalia3 ,Aug 26 '06
Pros: zoom while recording video can't be broken very very small quick reaction time no blurriness
Cons: It can't cook for me, or pay for my plane ticket to Alaska.
My father has worked in camera repair & testing for over 30years and this was the camera he gave to me for my birthday this year. This is after he tested it himself for several months.
I have a shaky hand, but I have not had a blurry picture yet -- which is a problem I had with Sony's.
Another amazing feature is that it can zoom while you are recording video clips -- another thing the Sony's can't do.
Plus compact.
I took this on my trip to Alaska & now have a poster-size print of a glacier on my wall, & everyone asks where I bought it.
Also very sturdy, which is great since I am such a clutz.
AND you can hook it up with the provided cables to your TV and watch the pictures as a slideshow or video. Nice.
Thanks, dad!
