Pros: Canon fans will not be disappointed. Some of the new features really make a difference. Cons: None really, but it's not a night and day improvement over the SD450.
I'm not going to go into too much detail of the basics of this camera. I have previously owned the SD450 and the basic feature set of that camera is nearly identical to the SD600. Quality of pictures is on par as well, except for the obvious bump from ...

Pros: Lots of features, good quality photos Cons: LCD is exposed to scratches, lens jams, expensive battery

Great, Simple to Operate Compact Camera by zxcvbnm42 ,Nov 02 '06
Pros: Fast, Very Compact, Very Easy to Use, High Quality Movies Cons: For a compact, Point and Shoot - No major flaws
This camera is really fantastic, very easy to use, and takes great movies, but a large SD card (1Gb-2Gb) is recommended. My very non-technical wife also loves it. The included 16Mb SD card is almost useless, because you can only fit a few pictures on it at the highest resolution - a large SD card is definitely recommended. There are many inexpensive 3rd party batteries available that have a good battery life. The leather case is works well and a extra battery fits nicely snug in the belt loop.
Pictures are very good, 6 Megapixel pictures, the software is simple, and easy to use (at least on Windows XP). If you store the pictures on a computer, the pictures can be downloaded automatically from the camera to the computers hard disk.
As for comparisions with other Canon Powershot cameras, the Powershot SD630 doesn't have a view finder, but has a larger LCD monitor in its place. The SD600 has both a view finder and a slightly smaller LCD screen.
For the target market of a compact easy to use camera, this camera is big winner!
Pros: Fine camera Cons: sensitive for sand/dust to jam lens gear
The Canon SD series are fine camera's, but they seem to suffer from lens errors (check how many people suffered from this by googling lens error canon).
The problem seems to come from sand/dust entering the body and jamming the lens gear. A handy person may be able to fix it, but I think Canon should have designed an enclosed lens gear so sand/dust can not enter.
Camera's are commonly carried in pockets, so it is logical sand and dust can be expected.
There are some issues with getting perfect focus in some situations.
Pros: compact, light, stylish, good pictures, good price Cons: have to buy a screen protector and a larger memory card
I got this camera to replace my kodak easyshare and mainly I wanted more pixels and a more compact camera and this one worked out perfectly.
SD600 is very easy to use, the menu is very self explanatory. I like the quality of pictures, but what I don't like is the red eye reduction tool- I don't think it works very well because if I take pictures of anyone with light colored eyes they always come out red regardless of the red eye reduction tool being on. Other then that, everything is good. The memory card that comes with the camera is too small so you will want to buy a bigger one and maybe something to protect the LCD screen... I know I have my camera in the purse with the keys and all the other things and you don't want to scratch the screen!
Pros: large LCD screen
easy to carry around
produces high resolution pictures
reasonably priced Cons: lack of manual controls.
I bought this camera as a Christmas present for a family member and was able to play with it a bit. This camera is very light and portable, which probably makes it more fragile. It is also very user friendly, light weight, and creates high quality pictures which can be viewed on its large LCD screen.
Canon PowerShot SD600 / IXUS 60 Digital by katebet ,Mar 17 '07
Pros: Size, weight, large screen Cons: No Image stabilization
I purchased this camera to take on my honeymoon and loved it. The camera is so light that you forget you are carrying it with you all day. You can store it in your pocket. People compliment my pictures all the time now because the SD600 makes taking them very easy. The large LCD screen and zoom features are wonderful tools and very helpful to a camera novice.
The camera doesnt have image stabilization, however that was not something I have had problems with so far. It also doesnt have all the fancy extras, but I believe it is an excellent camera for a non-professional photographer.
I purchased this camera after returning a Kodak EasyShare One (horrible camera). Everything the Kodak was lacking this camera had and more. From the get go this camera was easy to use and took incredible pictures. There is very little built in memory so you will need to purchase a memory card before using it. The menu system is very easy to use and extremely intuitive. The build quality is excellent. I would recommend purchasing a screen cover for the large screen on the back. One of the things I really liked about this camera was that it has a viewfinder. Let's face it, sometimes it is extremely bright outside and you will want to see what the camera is seeing. This camera has some really great built in features, like changing the color in some pictures. The battery lasts a really long time and doesn't take long to charge.
Pros: Quick 1st photo time from the "off" position
Affordable
Small
Easy to use menu
Cons: No stability assist
Low light is ok, but not great
I researched cameras costing less than $300 and in the compact category. I heard great things from all of the owners of other Canon Elphs, and I have not been disappointed. One of the greatest things about the camera is that it has a very fast time to first picture. We have a young son. Being able to capture a moment or an expression very quickly was important to us. This camera is good for that. Also, the picture quality is good, the feature menus are user-friendly. I really like that the battery is rechargable as our last Kodak camera took batteries that cost $10 each. Also, we purchased online at Wal-Mart.com and paid only $212.50 plus $0.99 shipping for it, so the price was very nice.
GREAT QUALITY, GREAT SIZE, GOOD PRICE by kc_barrel ,Oct 10 '06
Pros: SIZE, PICTURE QUALITY, SCREEN SIZE/QUALITY, RESPONSE TIME Cons: Zoom is average at 3x optical, Battery has to be removed to be recharged.
I decided to upgrade to this camera mainly because of its size. I have a perfectly good 4MP Kodak, but we've found that because of it's somewhat larger size we don't take it anywhere and therefore don't take as many pictures as we'd like. For its size, this camera is amazing. Truly great picture quality. All the features you could want (unless you want to get really technical, but then you don't want a point and shoot camera anyway). Awesome size. Quick response (turns on and ready to shoot in less than 2 seconds). Battery life is good so far, but I haven't really tested it to its limits yet. Screen is great... easy to see in just about all light. Movie quality is as good as you'd expect from a non-camcorder (maybe better than I expected). Overall a great camera at a reasonable price and an AWESOME size. Just a reminder; a really terrific camera that sits in the car or at home because it's too big to travel with you is a useless camera. This one travels well.
Best Digital Camera I've Had by vitetor ,Mar 28 '07
Pros: Size, Picture Quality, Battery Life Cons: I cant seem to see how much battery life is left
This is the best digital camera i have owned. It is the perfect size, takes great pictures and has all the necessary features for a regular camera user.
Pros: It was inexpensive and worked well for a while Cons: Something in the camera is defective possibly others have had this problem
I received this camera as a gift as did my daughter, it took awesome photos and i loved it. Recently both cameras have been taking pictures with off colors and distorted pictures. I don't believe that this item is worth the money one paid for. This camera was purchased at 139 dollars. Wouldn't buy this product or name brand again.
Pros: Small design, Easy to use, user friendly, fairly inexpensive Cons: Very simple, image stabalizer not the best, a bit pixelated when zooming in
My girlfriend who lives with just recently bought the Canon Powershot SD600 and she loves it. Small slim design with easy to use features for those who just want to take pictures, and advanced enough for those who like to take the perfect shot.
Pros: Everything Cons: Manual is a bit large (big deal).
Worth every penny. Compact, large screen, and fast. We got the 2MB chip that is High Speed. Well over 500 picture capability and fast with this chip. My sons and parents have now bought one also. Used the reviews from cnet.com as a guide.
Pros: Quality construction. Attractive appearance.
Good battery Cons: Pictures are not sharp. Color balance is awful.
The camera is well constructed and looks like a quality instrument. I purchased the SD-600 to replace an Olympus C-40, mainly because of the type of media card required. I've had the camera for about 3 months and have not ever taken a what I would consider a quality photo with this camera. Whether it is a sunset, a macro of a flower, pictures of people I find the resolution fuzzy. As an example, photos of flowers are always blurry with the fine detail of the flower missing. Sunsets, blazing red in the sky come out as bright yellowish white colored clouds. The skin tones on people do not look right to me. The manual is terrible in my opinion. Nothing intuitive about it at all. While the speed at which it sets up and takes photos is great the quality is way below the camera I used before purchasing this one.
Canon Powershot SD600 also known as IXUS 60 by tunge ,Sep 22 '06
Pros: Easy for use and lots of pre-set shooting modes for different light conditions Cons: not very good for night shot, lack of anti-shake mechanism.
I bought the IXUS 60 (SD600) about a year ago and I have been really pleased with the camera. there are numerous shooting modes and effects to play around, to give you unconventional shots. Overall I like the camera for it's ease of use, the menu is well organised and easy to navigate, and the buttons are easy to understand and use.
the 2.3in LCD screen is simply wonderful. It's perfect for reviewing the photos you have taken and showing them to others. The resolution is very good, better than the sony cybershot series.
solid body and compact size, it's not too small and fits nicely in the hand.
however i do have some problems with night shots, although with a proper tripod that problem should be solved, but it'll be nice to have a anti-shake ability for this camera.
I have problems with XP also by samta69 ,Aug 10 '06
Pros: It's fast and easy to upload pictures to the PC. Takes great pictures Cons: Problems with trying to make the camera software work with XP
I am using the Cannon SD600 on an XP operating system, and I have continuous problems also. About five minutes after I turn on the PC, a scanner pop-up window appears, asking me if I want to use the Cannon application program. There is NO way to get rid of this window without rebooting. I also cannot use Outlook while this window is present. Fortunately (so far) it doesn't come back after I reboot, until I turn on the PC the next day.
Pros: Size, quality of picture, battery life. Cons: Battery monitoring function is minimal.
The overall small size and large viewing screen on the back caught my attention right away. I've had good experiences with Canon in the past, so I figured I'd give this one a try. I'm glad I did! It's so small, it fits in a mobile phone carrier so I have it with me all the time. I use it at work to record projects (a picture paints a thousand words), and at home to capture outings, funny moments, etc. There have been so many times I was able to take an unexpected photo just because I had this with me.
Of course, just having it is only half the equation: the pictures need to be excellent, too, and they are. Even the movie shots taken with this are excellent, and the sound quality is surprisingly good for such a small camera.
Canon PowerShot SD600 / IXUS 60 Digital Camera by sugaswtgrlie ,Jan 03 '08
Pros: very clear macro, can change ISO speed quickly, not bulky, good focus Cons: sometimes blurry without flash & lagging flash
It's a great camera to take anywhere because of its sleek design. The screen is 2.5in and is a sufficient size. I looked at different cameras before finally deciding which one to buy and I feel that I made the right choice.
Pros: small lightweight large screen easy to use perfect pictures cool features durable Cons: none
This camera was a birthday present three years ago and I still get great pictures! I frequently get compliments on photos, some I have entered into contests. Super easy to use, small cool features like an all black and white photo with only one color standing out. It has a super sleek design that makes it easy to keep in a jacket pocket. I LOVE IT, no need to replace it til it breaks. I don't think that will happen anytime soon either, I've dropped it I don't know how many times and it's fine... just a couple scratches. Definitely a quality product, you're getting your money's worth with this one!
