The first micro digital camera I ever used was the nifty little Canon S10, which I really liked, so I was really excited when the S100 was introduced almost two years ago. Despite its diminutive size, the little digital elph was a superb image-maker....
Pros: Small size, improved functions, stainless steel body, options!, and more Cons: Short battery life, Weak Flash, and Urrrrr..... Needs more megapixels?
Searching the web for deals, I thought I stumbled onto a doozy of a deal on the Dell.com web site. Dell had a 10% sale off digital camera with a stackable $25 off $300 coupon. That meant the PowerShot S200 was under $300 bucks! $290 to be exact......
Pros: Even more spiffy features!
Cons: Still comes with only a 8MB CF card
I've been enamored with the Powershot S-series line of digital cameras ever since the old S10. When the S100 came out, I was enchanted by its size and stainless steel shell. With the S110, Canon added some nice features while keeping the overall...
Pros: small, takes great pictures, solid construction, great price Cons: wimpy 8MB compact flash card
Background
I've owned the Canon S300, Canon S110, and now I own the Canon S200. I bought the S300 when it came out last year because I wanted a small camera, but I switched to the S110 because although the size difference looks small on...
I bought the S200 digital Elph camera two weeks ago, and am very pleased with it so far. While I am new to the S200, it is my second digital camera, and this purchase was made after much research, and my experiences with my first digital camera, a...
Pros: Small size, light weight, bright LCD and manual features. 1 year warranty. Cons: Soft photos, proprietary battery with mediocre life.
The S200 is Canon's latest pocket sized camera entry. In fact, it's one of the smallest on the market from any company. This Digital ELPH is the same size as the camera it replaced, the S110. At 1.1" thin by 3.4" long x 2.2" high it really fits...
Pros: Small size, great picture quality Cons: Low battery life, skimpy size on included CF card
I bought this camera because of its small size, relatively low price, and good reviews from other Epinions.com members. Specifications: Res: Up to 2 Megapixels, three settings for size and compression Zoom: 2X optical, 5x total. LCD scree ...
Pros: Size and portability, it also has an excellent battery life. Cons: Only 2 megapixels, miniscule zoom, some controls too small to be easily used
When I first saw the Canon S200 sitting in the digital camera section, my first reaction was "Wow! That thing is so sleek!" Only after having this camera for a while was able to realize the xcelent functionality and portability that the Canon S200...
Pros: Ultra small, but very ergonomic camera Cons: Bundled software poor
Introduction
I went looking for a digital camera for my mother, who has neither photography experience or a high level of comfort with technology! A tall order in today's world. Ease of use was by far the most important feature.
Pros: Jewel-like beauty will impress you and your friends. You can take it anywhere. Cons: Indifferent image quality; very poor low light images.
As you may know from my other reviews, I usually buy paralyzingly expensive digital cameras. The bulky, chunky SLR-style camera was made just for me. But sometimes the neck aches from too much camera. When my D30 was stolen, I decided to try the other...
Pros: Great Pictures, good price, good size, metal case, compact flash Cons: Software is bulky
Canon's PowerShot S200 Digital ELPH
What a great camera! Its small size, metal casing, great picture quality, and compact flash memory more than make up for the problems I have with the software.
Pros: Size, Ease of Use, Movie Mode, Versatile Features, Photo Stitch Software for Making Panoramas Cons: 8MB Flash Card (Included), Semi-Weak Flash, Short Battery Life, No Zoom with Movies
I’ve had my Canon PowerShot S200 Digital Elph for about 2 weeks and love it. It is the first digital camera I’ve purchased, and in comparison to the digital cameras that my friends have (Sony DSC-P1 Cybershot, Nikon CoolPix 775), the Canon...
Pros: Small size, easy to use, cool looking Cons: nothing
When I got pregnant, I knew I wanted to take loads of pictures for the babies. I wanted a digital camera. We bought a S110 and it was very nice as well. We recently bought a S200. This one is even easier to use.
Pros: durable and stylish enough for techy college scene Cons: only a beat too slow sometimes with the shutter to capture amazing blackmail shots
This camera was given to me as a gift after graduation from high school (because I broke my first one - an Olympus D460). I began to use it profusely, taking pictures of everything - from people to places, shooting mini video clips of random acts of the...
Pros: Super small, stainless steel body and simple menu functions. Cons: Canon specific A/C adapter NOT INCLUDED and the measly 8MB flash card.
Why I decided on the S200 Digital ELPH:
I'm sold on Canon cameras. We've really liked the Canon EOS Elan-7E SLR we got a little over a year ago. It takes amazing photos and was an incredible step up from the dinky point-and-shoots...
I bought a large 4.1MP SLR digital camera, but realized that it was too bulky and too complicated for the whole family to use. So, I ended up buying the S200 to take with me on trips. The most important thing with photography is that if you don't carry...
Pros: Small, lightweight, big capacity, simple to use Cons: One handed use sometimes means you open the battery compartment, turning the camera off.
I bought my first digital camera in January 1997, is had it's own proprietary file format, was heavy and didn't take the best shots. But hey, it was new and among the most advanced at the time. Slowly it fell into disuse, it ate batteries and the...
Pros: fair price, many options, zoom, easy to use Cons: small memory card
I decided last month that it was about time I purchased a digital camera. I have been using my normal Canon Rebel G for quite sometime now, and have always been pleased. However, film is expensive and so is developing. Furthermore, lugging a big...
Pros: Great compared with others like it. Cons: Battery life, only comes with 8MB compactflash card.
Digital point and shoot cameras should not be looked at as a replacement to film cameras, the quality just isn't good enough for anything important or for images that you need to enlarge. But, for the convenience of being able to email your snapshots or...
Pros: Cheap, fast CPU, carry anywhere (small), very good specs, compact charger Cons: No profiles, No optical stabilization (too advanced 4it), weak zoom, crammed buttons, limited recording time
My camera was bargain deal! I bought it to capture photos of my patients, X-rays and ECGs where I can't put them on a scanner. It turned to be a great tool, performing exactly what I wanted and more. The quality was very good except in some X-rays. ...
Pros: Great feel, easy to operate, 12 second video capture mode, good battery life. Cons: Not good in low light, doesn't come with a case, only 8 MB card.
By the grace of god, I realized I lost my big fat battery eating Kodak DC280 digital camera last summer just as I was about to go on vacation to Europe. I quickly scanned CNET.com and looked for a decent digital camera that wouldn't break the bank....
Pros: Small, Portable, rechargeable, stylish Cons: Only 8 Mg included, no case included
The Canon S200 is not the best digital camera you can buy for around 300 bucks. You can easily find a camera with more than 2 Megapixels, more than 2X optical zoom, and more the a 8 Megabyte CF card for the same price. Heck, you can probably find a...
Pros: fair price, many options, zoom, easy to use Cons: small memory card
I decided last month that it was about time I purchased a digital camera. I have been using my normal Canon Rebel G for quite sometime now, and have always been pleased. However, film is expensive and so is developing. Furthermore, lugging a big ...
Pros: Small, great photos, easy to use. Cons: Um.... well, Canon doesn't give them away for free.
I've had my S200 for a week now and have been thrilled with it. It takes great photos, is so small that I can carry it with me everywhere and it is pretty simple to use, yet you can make it a little more complexe and have some manual control.
...
Pros: compact; great picture quality; ease of use; lithium ion battery; durable. Cons: unimpressive zoom; no carrying case; 16MB card; no battery life indicator.
Don't get me wrong, the Canon Elph S200 is an awesome camera: it's super-compact, it takes great photos (clear up to an 8x10), it's simple to use, it takes decent MPEGs, and it looks way cool. This is the perfect camera for anyone taking simple ...
Pros: Size, image quality, usability, design Cons: only 2X Zoom, expensive power adapter, no simple USB driver
There are cameras with more features, better image quality, better zooming, and lower prices, but I would still take a small cut on the features to have a camera with the S200's size.
Buy this camera and you will take more pictures. It's as...
Pros: Sleek body, compact size, Improves on the original!! Cons: Skimpy included CF card, "only" 2 MP, Limited AVI recording time
Having been an owner of the Canon S100, S110 in the past, I eagerly snapped up the latest camera in the family! I have had Kodak Digital Cameras, Sony, and Fuji in the past, and I have to say that the Canon S series just continues to improve! I'll...
Pros: Takes great pictures, is very convenient, and even takes video clips with sound. Cons: Videos are grainy, camera is still a bit thick, and battery could last longer.
I've been using this camera for about six weeks now and am very happy.
CONVENIENCE. The camera fits easily in my shirt picture, though I wouldn't mind a thinner camera. I specifically wanted this level of convenience, so that I could take my...
Pros: Small, feels solid, takes good pictures, and hey, lets admit it, it just looks cool. Cons: maybe a bigger optical zoom...
This camera is great, I got it about a year ago and have not stopped using it.
First thing is the obvious, it's extremely small and convenient to carry on trips or anywhere. But the great thing about it is that they it seems they did not have...
Pros: Small, stylish, tough as nails, great picture quality. Cons: Slow auto-focus.
I purchased this camera 16 months ago while stationed in Afghanistan. The environment was very dusty, and I knew that whatever camera I bought would have to be able to withstand the dust and a few bangs and bumps here and there. I already had the ...
Pros: It is light-weight, small, takes great photos, and has a great viewing screen. Cons: It takes awhile sometimes to take a photo.
This is a great way to take pictures. I use mine all the time. It takes the most beautiful digital pictures that I have viewed. I bring it everywhere. It is so tiny and light-weight that it fits in my purse so I can bring it all over the place. I...
Pros: zoom, size, ease of use Cons: computer software, battery life
So far, I have been really impressed with my little camera!!! I'm not a highly experienced photographer, so this camera is perfect for me, and others like me who like using cameras on a regular basis but don't need all the bells and whistles of the more...
Yes it DOES eat your battery fast but only if you use the preview pane on the back - turn it off and your battery will double it's life, granted you do need that pane for some pics, but not for all so turn it off and...
Pros: Small size Cons: Bad picture quality. (Very)Inadequate flash.
Canon name is synonymous with picture quality. And, I am a big fan of Elph series, especially the original series which blazed the path for metal (read stainless/aluminum)cameras with industry design.
Pros: Very small. Additional functionality to the S100 & S110. Auto Rotate Cons: Only 2 mega pixels and 2x zoom (optical)
This is an outstanding camera. Canon has taken an additional leap over the S110. This camera has more buttons to play with on the back of the camera, to add more functionality. You can set many more controls manually, including changing the camera to...
Pros: It is small, takes great photos, durable, excellent value for the price. Cons: People will want to borrow it from you.
I bought the canon s-200 elph after doing a lot of searching for the best camera, and I think this was the best deal. I was looking for a small camera, that I could take with me on my trips and that was easy to use, because I am not too good with...
Pros: Small Metal body. Low price. Good picture quality. Cons: Bad Micro performance. Slow start up time.
I've owned the S100, S110 and this S200. They're more refined in each generation. The S200 can now be had at about $220 on Yahoo Shopping and that's a great value for such a well built DC.
Picture quality wise, it's about the same as S110...
Pros: Small, VERY durable, Great pictures, Lots of manual overrides Cons: Only 2 megapixels
I bought the S100 when it first came out, and upgraded to the S200 because of it's improvements to it's flash and color algorithm. This is the perfect camera for party shots, casual shots, impromptu shots, and anywhere that portability is key. I always...
Pros: Video function, picture quality, ease of use. Cons: Battery life-AWFUL, small 8MBcard, hard to clean and get dust out of lens
I was given this camera in August '02 as a gift after basic at the Air Force Academy. This camera has been to hell and back with me. Hall brawls, low crawling, being dropped, crawling through the snow, EVERYTHING. It even went through me learning to ...
Pros: Small size, high quality photos, ease of use, sleek look. Cons: No included case, movie mode very limited in terms of time.
I owned a pretty lousy digital camera until recently, and I finally got the approval from the boss (my wife ;) ) to get a new one to get better family photos. I researched a lot of cameras, and this one kept cropping up with glaringly good reviews......
Pros: Great pictures, good focus, small size, compact, durable Cons: low light is blurry, flash is too much sometimes, not enough MP,
This is my first digital camera, got it @ Target for 299. Also bought a 128MB card (it came with a crappy 8MB) so storage is not a problem. The battery recharges nicely, and is adequate for general use. I never had it run out while I'm using it....
Pros: Nice small size, point and shoot ease, lots of extra features, slick looking camera. Cons: Doesn't come with a case, or a larger memory card.
I bought this for my girlfriend and she instantly fell in love with it. I considered buying the S320 model, which has more features, but the S200 more then foots the bill for an amatuer looking for some great pictures.
Pros: SMALL SIZE, good battery life, ease of use. Cons: proprietary battery and charger.
Bought it from circuit city while I was in the US. This was an upgrade from my A series Canon. The size and the sleek construction is what made me go for it. I have always loved Canon's.... even from the days of 35mm SLRs....
Pros: Small size and great features. Cons: Poor software and small flash card
This camera is a beauty. As soon as the battery charged up, I was pointing and clicking. Then after a measly 8 pictures I plugged it into my iBook and with one click of the mouse was loading them into iPhoto. Very fast compared to the older serial...
Pros:
I love it. I bought it as my first digital camera. And since I am doing a lot of outdoor photography I was looking for something more robust and something very small. I have an older SLR with metal housing that survived some pretty hard...
Pros: Takes great outdoor photos in good light, easy to carry, easy auto operation. Cons: Manual modes difficult for me to learn, power button too close to shutter.
I bought this camera for a trip to Europe, after agonizing over many reviews, and what convinced me was how small it was and how well a friend's s20 worked. I bought a belt case, 1 spare battery and 4 128mb memory cards for 3 weeks of shooting and it...
Well, I gave the little camera a week to show me what it could do. 30-50% of the shots were blurry (forget about motion). It has a major focusing/softness problem that Canon let out the door before tweaking. Maybe it was just the camera out of the...
In this case... I am talking about the benefits of diminuitive size! This thing easily fits in any shirt or pants pocket so you can take it anywhere. I wouldn't dream of taking my digital SLR rig on anything but photo hikes. With the S200, I can go...
Pros: Styling, compact size Cons: Standard 8mb card, weak flash, short battery life, no case, small zoom, slow shutter speed
This is my first digital camera; therefore, I have nothing to compare it to. I love having a digital camera but there are some features that I don't like on this camera. The worst thing about this camera is the weak flash and picture quality in low light...
So, I like taking pictures of naked landscapes and animals....haha. Putting them in clothes is just too much effort! But, getting them developed is the hard part!
(For those of you who arent too fast, the above is not intended to be...
Pros: Small, fast shutter, lots of great features... did i say small? Cons: Limited zoom, not too good at far shots, better at close ones.
I did my research into cameras before selecting this one. I found that the Canon line is the cream of the crop so any Canon camera is going to be a good buy. Like the A40 or G2. But if you want a small camera that you can just stuff in your pocket,...
Pros: Metal case (durable), more than adequate resolution, long battery life, light weight Cons: Poor focus on close objects, poor long distance optical zoom.
The PS 200 is an excellent choice for a novice to intermediate photographer. I have found it very useful for climbing and backcountry travel as well. The combination of it's small size and metal case make it a perfectly durable camera. The Li-ion recha ...
Pros: Pretty good build, good pics, great size Cons: batteries, hard to use, poor low light quality
We've had this camera for a couple years now, occasionally using it. It's a good size, neither so big as to be cumbersome, nor so small as to just be hard to use. The outside is finished in decent titanium-look plastic, and it has an overall pleasing ...
Pros: Great price, great resolution (if you know how to use it) and small size. Cons: Poor low light performance and poor distance performance, even at full zoom
While many people believe that you need all the bells and whistles, I contend that Good Enough is sometimes. As the owner of a marketing and advertising firm, not every client is a huge corporation. Many customers are small businesses that desire products in their brochures, but can't afford professional photography. I have owned and carry this camera everywhere. I use it for photographing samples of the customers previous work (for quoting) as well as some product shots for small tri-fold brochures or quick sell sheets. Inexpensive, it makes a great addition to our salepeople's street kits.
Pros: Compact size and quality photos. Cons: Some difficulty in using the manual settings.
This camera is so compact that it easily will slip into a small purse or even a shirt pocket! The pictures are excellent. Like all digitals, the manual settings require some study but I have been happy with the automatic focus. Make sure that you press the shutter button slightly to focus before you shoot though. For a camera to carry along with you, this is great.
Pros: Durability, Optical zoom Cons: A little heavy, shutter lags
I've had this camera for several years now and it still works great! Takes excellent pictures, although it's only 2 Megapixels. The shutter lags a little, but takes beautiful shots with rarely any blurry pictures. Plus, it has optical zoom! The only thing I don't like about this camera is that it's a little heavy. It's still a small camera, but there's smaller ones out there.
I bought a Canon SD10 last year because it was a smaller camera, but I am very dissatisfied with it. It already broke after 7 months and I had to send it back to Canon for repair. So, I'm back to using the S200 again and couldn't be happier with this camera!
I am using it for family photos, and landscape pics as well. It shows great performance in both. Besides, it is very compact in size, and the full metal body gives a good opportunity to carry it anywhere with you.
Pros: Canon Service ROCKS! Small, easy to use, great pictures. Cons: Great picture, but not the best! Wish camera had rubber on edges for additional protection.
I think that this camera is excellent! It is not the best picture available, but a great picture and it's compact size makes it much more practical and therefore usefull. I take this camera everywhere and it has done great in extreme heat and cold and getting bumped around while in it's case. I am pretty hard on things and recently broke the memory card door. I contacted Canon, shipped to them and the repaired under warranty and sent it back to me in 8 days and it was free!!! I can't say enough about this camera and even though I was reluctant to buy it for my wife, I love it and end up using it constantly!
A SUPER slick and sexy camera...oh and it works great too! by lauren1370 ,Feb 20 '04
Pros: Small, sleek, powerful, easy-to-use, great auto-focus and zoom, wonderful color in pics, easy soft Cons: Delay when pressing button to TAKE picture, not good clarity for 8x10 or larger pics
The canon powershot S200 digital camera is fantastic! It is super easy-to-use for those of us who are a bit electronically-challenged (okay, that's me), while advanced enough for my sister who is a professional photographer. The camera body is small, but not cheap feeling, and takes FANTASTIC pictures. The software the comes with the camera is SUPER easy to install and use. The battery lasts longer than MANY other digital cameras on the market. You definitely get the most bang for your buck with this little powerhouse!
Bought this camera to replace... by dutchofsd_dt3000 ,Mar 29 '03
Bought this camera to replace my previous Canon camera now in use by grandson. While never mistaken for professional ability this camera will enhance the efforts of the most hopeless klutz. The 128mb CF card used in the previous camera even carried the file numbers forward. Never leave home without it.
This is a Great little... by nick_c_dt3000 ,Mar 25 '03
This is a Great little camera! I have a $2,000.00 dollar Olympus N20 that I left at home when we took our vacation. I bought this camera for the trip because it was small, and if it fell overbord, well, to bad. This thing takes better pictures than my Oly does. I got back and printed an 8x10 and was blown away! It looked like a print ad! Now I wished I had bought the S400 just to get the longer lense. I am thinking about selling My Oly and buying it. The only limitation is the flash that only reaches 10 to 15 feet efectively. The auto focus is fast and accurate, I never had a battery go dead on be during a days shooting and reviewing photos. The metering is the most acurrate I have seen on any digital camera in a wide range of situations, and you can accually use the LCD in the day light. If you are considering other cameras in this catagory, dont.
Because of the small size,... by steve_dt3028 ,Dec 31 '02
Because of the small size, you will take it everywhere. It is very easy to use. Loaded with features. I wish it had a 3X optical zoom like some of the other 2Meg cameras. I like the small battery pack better than 2 or 4 AA batteries other camera us. Battery charges easily & quickly.
Outdoor pictures are better than indoor flash. Flash is weak but I found that with most Digial Cameras. Good software package included. I have a 64MB card which gives me lots of pictures. Easy to view and erase right on the camera. LCD panel is very clear & bright. Picture colours are true. I would recommend to a Friend. Sorry to repeat...but the size of this camera makes you want to take it with you... it's so easy to carry around in your pocket. You will take more pictures just because you have it with you.
This is my first digital... by brent_dt3000 ,Nov 08 '02
This is my first digital camera and i have found it easy to use. My problem is not with the camera but i strongly recommend that a camera case be included in the package on purchase.
If you can't figure out how to operate this camera in 5min. or less...the problem lies not with the camera but with the user. Camera performs greater than my expectations except the flash seems to be to powerful indoors. Have recomended this camera to my dearest friends and co-workers. If you want a GREAT small digital camera look no further!
I just recieved my camera... by keith_dt3003 ,Jan 16 '03
I just recieved my camera today (I am a new user). I read the manual, and find the camera fairly easy to opperate. The biggest problem is it doesnt come with an AC/DC power adapter to use the without a battery. This you have to buy seperately for $70. The battery doesn't last very long, especially when it is connected to a computer. Overall though, I am happy with this camera.
What a great package! LONG... by coleh_dt3000 ,Apr 01 '03
What a great package! LONG battery life, great control, wonderful pictures. I take it instead of my Nikon SLR on trips and outings. Don't hesitate - this is a great camera.
What I liked about this... by denny_dt3003 ,Mar 31 '03
What I liked about this camera was the ability to use it right out of the box without really reading the directions. It is really easy to use and is a great camera. Just about everyone who looks at my camera wants to buy one. I carry it around in my pocket all the time and even forget that I have it on me sometimes. This is a well designed and extremely versatile camera. I highly recommend it and will definately buy another. Take lots of pictures!
This is a great little camera! It is very small and tough with a metal cover. (I've accidentally dropped it a couple times in a Lowepro case with no effect.) It takes great outdoor pictures and indoor pictures (when there is enough light), and is easy to use. Mode switching between viewing pictures and taking pictures is very fast. The auto focus works very good. I recommend the highest resolution (1600x1200), lowest compression (SF), and ISO 50 speed setting for best results.
On the negative side, it has a 2X optical zoom, and the flash is weak. Though the flash works great when real close. Don't take pictures at night more than 6 feet from your subject. (I'm planning to try some sample pictures with a second synchronized flash that will go off in response to the camera's flash.)
I've used many digital cameras - Sony Mavica FD-88, Fuji ??, Canon S110, Canon S330, Canon G2, and Canon S10. I like the S200 for a portable point and shoot under the right lighting conditions.
I love this camera. I... by harper_dt3000 ,Feb 10 '03
I love this camera. I received it as a Christmas gift and like the previous reviewer, I take it everywhere I go. I love the ease of use and the ability to see the pictures right away. I had to buy a case for 15.99 and a 128 CF card for 50.00.
this is a great point and shoot camera. it's small, and easy to connect to your TV or computer, you can watch the videos (which have sound) on your TV. the viewfinder screen is very helpful for reviewing pictures after you take them, and you can scroll through all your pictures and delete ones you don't want. you can also look at your pictures up close, by using the zoom feature. the battery doesn't last very long, maybe 40 minutes w/ the viewfinder on, but i think all digital cameras are like this. i recommend buying a 128 mb card, so you can store 200 high resolution pics at a time on the camera and you can also store 300 seconds of decesnt quality video. a problem with the video mode - you can only record in 20 second increments. this means you can hold 15 seperate 20 second videos, but you can't have one giant 300 second video. its a great camera. i bought mine on ebay for a discount.
I have Canon SLB's for years...fine quality and advanced tech This will be a 2nd camera, pocket carried...I recently bot a Canon G2 which is a fine piece of photo gear and will be used for more serious photograpny along with my Canon EOS, A-1, et al and a host of lenses
I have used many cameras over the years and this is the one that stays with me everwhere I go. It is so handy, because of it's size, that I do not have to make the decision of ... do I take my camera today? It simply stays in my pocket..... Convenience, is one of the key elements to catching the great photograph. Quality is a key to most large cameras but with this little Power Shot....you have both in one.
easy to use. poor warranty... by annie_dt3003 ,Jul 08 '02
easy to use. poor warranty on product. service people difficult to get a hold of and sending/getting product returned was difficult. camera is ok if working but I'd get a sony or something more reliable. features were difficult to figure out except the very basic features like viewing and seeing last pictures.
This is a fantastic camera... by mbranch_dt3000 ,Jul 21 '02
This is a fantastic camera that inspires awe from everyone who sees it. The small size is a plus, making it easy to take anywhere. When more memory is used (I have 128 Mb) this camera can take hundreds of photos without downloading. The quality of the photos is excellent on automatic, and when experiementing with the manual adjustments, you can find all kinds of useful tools to make your photos more interesting. I have been recommending this camera to everyone, on value and quality.
