Pros: Best brew, great appearance, solid construction Cons: Quality doesn't come cheap
First off, let me say that drip coffee isnt my favorite way to make coffee. A French press will give you a much better cup. However it isnt always practical or convenient to press coffee. The Capresso MT 500 might be the second best way to make ...
Pros: excellent coffee, super easy to use, attractive machine! Cons: none
This is my third thermal carafe coffee maker this year. The Zojirushi I started with died after six weeks. I moved on to a Barista from Starbux that I loathed and returned. After reading many good reviews of this Capresso on epinions and some coffee ...
Pros: Excellent coffee. Great styling. And a carafe. Cons: Oh, it's a spendy little number....
So my grind-n-brew died. Finally happened, I can't complain. Actually, I'm not going to miss the early morning aircraft-taking-off noise of the grinder switching on. Or the horrendous beeping of the thing when it was done. Or the fifty dang parts I ...
Pros: Comes with mesh filter, better-than-average quality coffee Cons: Small capacity, doesn't keep coffee hot for long, price
This coffee maker was purchased with a store refund to replace a Cuisinart DTC-975 12-Cup Coffee Maker that was determined to erupt all over my counter and floor. We have been trying to find a good thermal carafe machine, and I am hoping we have found a ...
Pros: great coffee, beautiful design, insulated carafe, auto shut off Cons: carafe smaller than reservoir, a tad expensive
This replaces an 8 year old Krups 12 cup. Purchased from Sur La Table in Scottsdale. I followed the instructions and ran a couple of full pots of water through the machine prior to use. The instructions don't seem to indicate that you should rinse ...
Pros: Consistently flavorful coffee made quickly and kept hot for a long time. Cons: People that cannot follow instructions or cannot visually discern improperly located equipment may have problems.

Pros: Attractive, makes great coffee quickly. Cons: Some issues with placement, design quirks, expensive.
This machine makes coffee really fast - around seven minutes for a full carafe. The coffee that results from such a fast brew tastes great, with no bitterness. It is also very attractive. The wide, shallow design looks like it was made with poured metal ...
Pros: Best Tasting Coffee Cons: Price, one piece lid, carafe lid alignment indicator
My wife and I have had our MT500 for about a year now and we both really like it. It makes the best coffee we have ever had at home. We fill it with water and grounds before going to bed. I used the instructions to set the clock and timer the first ...
Pros: attractive. great coffee. Easy to clean and operate. Thermal carafe A+ after several hours. Cons: More expensive. coffee basket doesn't stand alone. coffee basket next to water reservoir

Pros: Solid and attractive machine with clean lines and professional look. Cons: Difficult to read water level and add water. Takes lots of grounds for strong coffee.
My husband and I drink quite alot of coffee--and we like it very strong! We grind our own arabica beans--usually ordered from Britt Coffee in Costa Rica, and we prefer the dark roast process.

Pros: Makes coffee quickly Cons: Noisy, messy, high maintenance.
After having coffee makers from Braun, Krups, Cuisinart, Sunbeam, etc. we decided to try the MT500 on advice from our coffee store. What a mistake. After 6 months I am ready to toss it in the trash. The first hint of problems started with the coffee...
Pros: Fast brewing. Carafe keeps coffee hot! Removable brew basket. Cons: Noisy! Controls are poorly placed. Large lid Variable coffee
When our Braun of 10 years finally began acting squirrely we decided to look for a new machine. I'd read about the new Capresso machines and decided that we liked the idea of a thermos. This is no ordinary thermos, it's very stylish and keeps the...
Pros: Insulated carafe.
Looks nice. Cons: Too easily makes a mess.
Way too complicated.
I bought this product, despite the high price, because I liked the idea of the insulated carafe as well as the built-in timer. It's also a very good-looking machine that you don't mind sitting out on your counter. Although the coffee is good, it ...
Pros: It looks great. The coffee if hot and flavorful. It's very easy to use. Cons: So far, we really don't have any complaints about this machine.
My husband and I have been using the Capresso MT500 for a couple of weeks now. We are thoroughly satisfied with it. We tried some other brands that either did not make the coffee hot enough or didn't fit between my counter top and the bottom of the...
Pros: Well built and looks nice. Cons: Expensive, weak coffee, sloppy pouring.
I have been a coffee snob for about 20 years, only drinking premium coffees such as Peets, Gevalia, Melitta and Starbucks, almost always grinding my beans with a $150 burr grinder. After 12 years of using a non-thermal Krups coffee maker, I wanted to ...
Pros: Best tasting coffee, Looks beautiful on the kitchen counter Cons: Hard to read water level indicator.
Actually, I don't drink coffee, I just love its smell. I'm quoting my partner, whom I bought the coffee maker for on his birthday. We've had it for a year with no problems.
This product brews the coffee in a slightly different manner than...
Pros: Easy to use. Coffee is piping hot and tastes wonderful! Cons: Limited availability in walk in stores.
I have been looking for a machine just like this. I have gone through so many at home coffee machines looking for that "coffee shop" taste to no avail. Even those bought at the "coffee shop" just did not meet the standards I was looking for. After ...
Pros: Nice design features Cons: Fatal flaws you shouldn't have for the price.

Pros: Makes excellent coffee, keeps coffee warm for long enough Cons: The carafe lid is a hassle to use
This is a good, solid thermal carafe coffee maker that has lasted about 3 years so far. It makes great coffee. The thermal carafe keeps coffee warm enough for long enough for me to enjoy it all morning without the coffee tasting 'old.' Although the ...
Pros: Great-tasting coffee. Thermal carafe doesn't burn the coffee to oblivion on a hot-plate. Cons: If anything goes wrong during the brewing process, you have a mess to clean up.
I'm very picky about my coffee, and prefer that it taste in the cup the way coffee smells as it's being ground. I used to think that the only ways of experiencing this level of coffee flavor was to hand-drip it through a Chemex funnel or to go to a ...
Pros: Solid construction, clean layout, and it brews super hot coffee. Cons: Price.
I have owned about seven different coffee makers and none of them compares to the Capresso MT500. I was tired of burnt coffee, carafes that spill when you pour, and cheap construction. The price of the MT500 may be steep, however, the coffee it brews...
Pros: Keeps coffee hot, easy to use and clean Cons: none
This was a great purchase. I have been looking for a good drip coffeemaker for a long time. This is it. The only worry that I really had was how long the coffee stayed hot in the thermos; so I will pass on my little test.
Pros: Thermal carafe
Easy to clean gold filter
Best tasting coffee Cons: So long as you are careful about placing the carafe, there are no cons
We have used this coffee maker at least once daily for more than four years and are about to order a new one because the whole machine is showing its age. It makes excellent coffee and we have no hesitation about buying another. Having grown up ...
Pros: coffee flavor; ease of use Cons: slow pour carafe
My wife forced me to trash my 19 year old Melitta coffee maker. There was nothing wrong with it, it treated me well, I resisted. So she bought the MT500 as a gift. I'm enjoying the new based on:
1. Features
- the Thermol carafe is a great idea. If you're still using an old glass carafe with heat pad its time to upgrade. The coffee stays fresh tasting longer. I sure hope you're not using the heat pad to reheat coffee.
- My old machine didn't have a drip stop for removal of the carafe while brewing (19years ago must have been an upgrade)
- Program brew time and I'm actually using the feature! Never thought I would. Set the clock once and just hit Auto the night before, coffee waiting for me in the morning.
2. Taste
Coffee is noticeable strong and better than my old machine.
3. Design
Not just the looks, but also the user interface - very easy to read water level.
capresso mt500 with s.s. carafe by nubster02 ,Feb 05 '04
Pros: looks, quality workmanship, outstanding coffee, brewing speed. Cons: a little pricey!
after having problems with almost every coffee maker we have purchased over the last 5 years i am happy to say that this unit has been truly great!!! it makes great very hot coffee, and stays hot in the carafe. i'm not sure it stays as hot (for 4 hours) as they say it does. the coffee is so good it does not last 4 hours. i don't want to sound like a sales person but this unit is really great. i purchased a krups with s.s. carafe first got it home, and it seemed kind of cheap made then i tried to run water through it the first time. it leaked all over the place. after retunring it to the store i upgraded to the capresso, and what a joy! now understand i have never paid more then $80. for a coffee maker in my life. i can say that i think this unit is worth it. with the quality of the product, and great coffee it produces..
MT500 great coffee but at an unacceptable temperature by mcbillyl ,Nov 12 '06
Pros: Excellent flavor, easy to use, easy to buy replacement parts Cons: Luke warm coffee immediately after brewing.
I just bought an MT 500. I love the flavor of the coffee but immediately after the brewing the coffee is luke warm at best. I find myself brewing the coffee, pouring it into a cup and then microwaving it. I don't use milk or cream but if I did add something cold, the temperature of the coffee would be undrinkable. I find it easy to use, though if you dont line everything up perfectly you will have a mess to clean up. I find clean up easy and making the coffee is easy. You also have to double the number of cups you want to make because their serving size is way to small for a typical morning coffee drinker. The system allows you to pour a cup of coffee in the middle of the brewing cycle and that works well- especially if you are in a rush.
I would give it to Good Will, but I have a conscience. Ready to trash. by ednajean ,Jan 23 '04
Pros: It has a small batch feature, which is nice. Otherwise, I can't think of any. Cons: Water filter system makes the coffee taste like something from 3-mile island. Carafe overflows, yuk.
After six months or so, if you don't position the carafe just right, it overflows. I began using a magnifying glass to look at the carafe/brewer connection to see if drips were coming out. If they were, I had to turn the carafe's position to prevent that, which is annoying at six in the morning. The first disappointment, however, was that the water filter made the coffee taste awful. After getting a "we don't believe you" response from the company, I abandoned the filter system, buying spring water instead. Then the overflow problem began, unfixable by any technique of cleaning or of reliable positioning. At this price--in fact, at any price--this product stinks.
Pros: Makes great coffee, looks good, easy time set. Cons: Noisy
We have enjoyed this coffee maker. It heats water to a high enough temperature to brew rich coffee. It is a very nice looking unit. Easy time set.
Our only complaint is that it makes lots of noise.
I finally found a great coffeemaker! by beachgirl2 ,Dec 27 '04
Pros: Makes great coffee - which is the point of a coffeemaker! Cons: Water-level gauge could be easier to read.
We love coffee! After years of looking for "the" right coffeemaker, I believe I have finally found it! All the popular brands had so many negative reviews, I finally decided to spend the extra money and get the Capresso MT500. It makes great coffee! I have not had any bad experiences like some others who wrote negative epinions.com reviews. It's easy to use, keeps the coffee hot and is SO attractive! I highly recommend this coffeemaker (Zaccardi's offered a 30-day return policy which I liked).
This is a great coffee maker! by liz1214 ,Feb 21 '07
Pros: Really good cup of coffee, looks good on the counter Cons: None...maybe make the carafe hold more coffee?
I bought the Capresso MT500 after researching and trying several coffee makers. I had been using a Mr. Coffee with a thermal carafe, and it was time to replace it. The Capresso MT500 makes a very good cup of coffee quite fast, which is great. There is no mess at all, and it could not be easier to use. I have used cheap coffee and I have used really great, fresh beans that I have ground myself, and it it always good, no matter what.
The easy to clean carafe keeps the coffee hot for hours. I only wish it held more.
Other than the coffee this machine produces, my favorite quality about it is how sleek and streamlined it looks.
Pros: Looks nice Cons: Not as hot as I would like and pours slowly
I did research and the overwhelming response was the MT500. So I purchased it as a replacement to a maker that still worked. I love the idea that the base is not using electricity to keep the coffee hot, instead the sealed top keeps the coffee hot inside. This was my first surprise because I was told it made very hot coffee. Instead it is hot but it seems like it is on the low end of the hot range. Also the top is difficult to turn to open the top and the coffe pours very slowly. For the price I was expecting more
Pros: Insulated Carafe - water filter Cons: CHEAPLY made and Unreliable!
Don't bother - not worth the money. I bought a capresso for the insulated carafe and the water filter. Within the first two months the LCD clock broke. Within the first 6 months, one of the plastic pieces that stops the coffee from dripping when you remove the carafe, broke. Now, one year and half later, the machine will no longer turn on. I'm heading out today to buy something that is well-made and costs under $100 dollars. Disappointing!!!
Pros: Good looking. Easy operation. Love the thermos carafe. Cons: Expensive.
First, I don't know why the Epinions star system only shows two stars for this product, especially when you see how many positive reviews there are for this coffee maker. I purchased this after a year of struggling with a Delongi coffee maker that was finally discontinued. (What an awful product . . .see reviews if you're considering it. Frontgate is still selling it. ) I went to William Sonoma and they recommended the Capresso MT500 based solely on the fact that this coffee maker is seldom returned. I took a risk because I hesitated spending this much money again after the Delongi fiasco. But I have been very happy. The coffee is wonderful. It's hot and stays hot for a long time (I don't warm the thermos.) It's easy to operate and looks good. We've had it for over a month and are completely happy. I love the little feet on the thermos carafe that allows me to place it on a glass top table. Looks good, coffee tastes, good, and easy operation.
Pros: -Hard to fault, outstanding machine. Cons: -Pricey and yes, it pours slowly.
I just don't understand all the negative reviews. This machine is a beauty. Coffee comes out scalding hot and amazingly smooth compared to any other machine we've had. Very nicely designed and constructed with easy to use features. As for the carafe, it's has kept our coffee drinkably hot for hours. The only complaint I can agree with is that it pours slowly. Boo hoo.
Pros: Looks nice in the kitchen Cons: Pouring takes time, coffee does not stay hot, expensive
Yeah the coffee taste great but it taste just as great in a $60 Braun Aroma Select.
I brought this pot because I thought I would be enlightened to a new coffee brewing experience. The hassles with this pot along with it's ridiculous price really enlightened me.
You don't need to spend this kind of money for a good cup of coffee.
Pros: It looks great and is small. Cons: Weak coffee; automatic pause function doesn't work.
This is the second style of this company's coffeemaker that I have bought -- the first one was the unit with the steamer (the steamer worked erratically, even with daily cleaning) -- and on both models, the automatic pause does not work. It is impossible to remove the carafe during brewing without the coffee dripping. And although it states in the MT500 specs that water drips in 30-second increments, the coffee was extremely weak; I tried both the gold filter and then with a paper cone (not together). It was weaker with the paper cone and there was a noticeable hole in the center of the grounds, indicating that the water went straight through the grounds.
Pros: Styling is nice, pot doesn't drip at all. Lid lifts up rather than swinging out. Cons: Heater quit after brewing only one pot of water.
Purchased this very expensive coffee maker online from Amazon after reading positive reviews in Consumer Reports and deciding I liked the style. Brewed the inaugural pot of hot water just fine, but the heater quit half way into my first pot of coffee and would never work again. Capresso replaced the unit and, after a week, it's been working fine. Coffee is tasty. I wish they offered a bit larger carafe, but this size seems to be pretty standard. One thing I really like is that the lid for pouring in the water and coffee lifts up rather than swinging out, but that might just be personal preference. Customer service was a bit slow, in my opinion, in response to my online request for assistance, but they did get back to me by phone. Before that happened I called. They did not argue with me about the problem, but did just what they should have done, which is to replace the unit, so that was excellent. However, a coffee maker this expensive should have better quality control before being boxed up for sale.
Good coffee; too noisy, not hot enough; returned by artsaje ,Feb 01 '09
Pros: Good cup of coffee Cons: Extremely noisy; coffee is not hot enough without preheat of carafe.
After reading rave reviews and despite a few negative comments, we bought the Capresso MT500 [even got a 30% discount]. Having read helpful reviews about problems pouring and lining up the carafe so the grinds didn't overflow, I had none of those problems. However, I couldn't believe how noisy it was throughout the entire brewing cycle. Then I discovered that the smaller the amount of coffee brewed, the cooler it will be. If you make a 5 cup pot, you definitely need to fill the carafe with hot water to pre-warm it before actually making coffee. On a 10 cup pot, coffee is OK but not extremely hot without pre-heating. Since we like to have it turn on automatically in the morning, this is not acceptable. After 5 days of trying to like it, we returned it and got a much less expensive Cuisinart that makes hotter coffee and just as good.
MT500+ is the best coffee maker by dazzerb ,May 03 '08
Pros: Great hot coffee every time
Looks great Cons: Water tank is very slim so pouring water in can be tricky
I never thought that I would ever find myself feel compelled to review a coffee maker but the MT500+ is so good and I enjoy the coffee from it so much I feel as if I need to share this.
Highly recommended. Coffee is always perfect. I brew Starbucks Italian Roast and exactly 10 tablespoons per full pot is perfect every time. With my old Krups it was hit or miss and I threw more coffee out than I drank.
Pros: Tasty cup of coffee every time. Cons: Carafe hard to pour from. Slightly difficult to measure small amounts of water.
Makes a decent cup of coffee. The carafe can be difficult to pour from. Either it comes out unevenly and slowly spills or you have to pour it out at a very slow pace. Besides that it performs quite well.
Overall, not worth the money by bryantsegovia ,Dec 17 '05
Pros: looks good on the counter, quick brew Cons: doesn't keep coffee warm
This is a nice coffee maker, very sleek looking and the coffee tastes good. The problem is it doesn't brew hot enough nor does the carafe keep the coffee warm very long. For the amount of money this thing is they could include a better quality carafe.
