Cat Genie, Kitties Get a Royal Flush!

by thedragonweyr Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Jul 20 '07
Pros: It works! No scooping, no lugging heavy litter, no disposal, cats love it!
Cons: You have to buy sanitizing solution cartridges, they are not refillable...yet....
We have cats, we have always had cats, and can't imagine ever not having cats. And they are, for the most part, entirely indoor cats. Even if traffic is not a hazard at The Weyr, foxes, haws, owls, and wild dogs certainly are, not to mention the ...

Not Worth the Hassle

by kandles , Feb 19 '07
Pros: Great concept. Excellent Customer Service.
Cons: Clogs on harder waste. Small piece of waste get left behind and 'cooked' yuck!
We are still on our quest for the best automatic litter box out there. So far we have tried Littermaid Elite Mega Automatic cat box and the ScoopFree LB1 Self-Cleaning Litter Box - neither one cut it (is it just me or have others had this much ...

Cat Genie - Perfect Conditions Required

by cheframo , Jun 16 '07
Pros: Self-cleaning, reduces smells, easy for cats to acclimate
Cons: expensive, maintenance is messy, noisy, supplies are pricey
I bought a Cat Genie from an on-line retailer about 6 months ago. I have 2 cats, about 2 years old and was very interested in never scooping litter again! The Cat Genie retails for $300-500. It hooks up to either your laundry or bathroom plumbing ...

Must have for cat owners. Early problems with unit now resolved.

by carzin , Jun 11 '07
Pros: No more scooping litter House wont smell like a litter box Awesome Customer Service
Cons: Expensive initial purchase When the unit does fail, cleaning the mess up isnt fun
I have now owned 2 versions of a self washing cat box: a Litter Free, and now a Cat Genie. The Litter Free, while not perfect, made me appreciate how nice it is not to tend a litter box. However, that unit had plenty of flaws, and a newly formed ...

I had this for almost a year now

by bennattj , Aug 07 '09
Pros: Works VERY well when you first get it.
Cons: Makes a bigger mess than traditional litter box after it starts malfunctioning.
Despite my score I actually highly recommend this product and here's why.  If you are thinking about buying this product it's probably because you're lazy and don't want to have to mess with cat poop and pee and don't want to have to do a lot of ...

Small Start Up Trouble, But Way Worth It!

by percheronmom , Jul 11 '07
Pros: Sanitary, Scooping Poop Over, Fresh Smelling Litter, Kind to Enviroment
Cons: Granuales scatter a bit, but no more than reg. litter.
I purchased my Cat Genie to avoid the scoop situation. I tried to potty train my cat and it almost worked. He really wanted to bury though so I knew I'd have to get a cat box. I am a dog owner at heart that has a son that loves cats. So we got a cat ...

A Veritable Blessing

by motherleopard , Jun 27 '07
Pros: More eco-friendly than traditional litter More sanitary than traditional litter Easier!
Cons: Wandering granules
My husband and I have had our CatGenie for a few months, I can't remember exactly how long. We're well past our 90 day money back limit, but that really no longer matters because we have no intention of returning it. Like any other sane, or sanitary ...

Great idea, but the cats don't agree

by coinneach0869 , Dec 02 '07
Pros: No more litter scooping.
Cons: Cats won't use it; takes too much room; noisy; expensive.
With three large and well-fed cats in the house, I was tired of cleaning their litter boxes every day, buying a big jug of Tidy Cat every week, and dealing with the inevitable mistakes from my oldest cat hanging his butt over the side of the box. I heard ...

Stop Scooping the Stink!

by hac2007 , Jun 14 '07
Pros: Clean litter, not a big mess.
Cons: Trying to get the cat used to the new litter pan
A dream come true for cat owners and lovers out there. This invention is a life saver. It used to be like this, the cat prances around the litter box for a while, goes to the bathroom, throws the litter everywhere, then you get to clean up all of that ...

I'm going back to scooping myself
by kaufmancanoles ,Feb 28 '07
Pros: Great customer service, easy to install.
Cons: Major water pressure issues & motor issues.
I had major issues with my CatGenie. Let me just say that the CatGenie was very easy to install. I connected it to my washing machine. The first motor had issues with the water pressure sensor. The customer service department was very helpful and they sent me a new motor. I mailed back the defective motor with the pre-paid postage they sent me. I installed the new motor and ran a cycle and had the same error message. I called customer service again and they said they were not sure why I was having some many problems. They thought it could be because I live in an apartment on the first floor and there might be water pressure issues. I played with the water pressure at the main valve (fully turned on, half-way turned on, etc.) Nothing seemed to work. The product was not working for me. I am sending it back to the company for a refund.

I would like to say that customer service is very helpful but the product itself has some issues. It was very easy to install, but one should not have to play around with the water pressure.

Love my Cat Genie
by chrisflanery ,Aug 10 '07
Pros: Cleans plastic granules at the touch of a button
Cons: granules stick to cats feet
I have had my Cat Genie for 2 weeks now and my two kittens have taken to it very quickly. The machine lives up to all expectations. Easy to use and easy to install. I have experienced no clogs or other problems. The only issue was the kittens (2) had runny stools due to age, where they were born (farm) and change in food and the Cat Genie had no problem cleaning up that mess. I would also like to say that the customer service department at CatGenie is staffed with some of the best customer service people I have encountered in a long time. They have called me back after hours and have walked me though some stepps to add extra wash cycles when the solids were not solid at all. They have been very pleasant every time I have called, returned my calls promptly and followed up with me everytime. I would not hesitate to recommend this product or company to anyone, anywhere and if you are in the area feel free to contact me to stop by and see for yourself how well this product works. Very satisfied customers!!!

Customer Service???
by fpease ,Oct 19 '07
Pros: none
Cons: no customer support
My cats were reluctant to use at first - they started using and I went out of town - I did have a cat sitter stopping by to check on them. The catgenie got a clog, the bowl was filled with water and started beeping; it beeped for at least 24 hours till I got home to silence it - now the cats won't use it. I have tried emailing Catgenie(1 week ago) and calling (4 hours ago) I cannot get any customer service. NO Respose to the email - NO call back on the voicemail left. I tried calling again - no one available to take my call. This is very frustrating.

Update on CatGenie
by shadow58 ,Aug 23 '07
Pros: No more scooping. Low odor.
Cons: Refills in my area only on line. Quality issues.
After recieving a new bowl we still had to add two spacers to prevent the gears from binding. Once we got it working the cats took 3 weeks before they finally accepted the new litter box.

So far so good but there was a learning curve.

The bowl must level or tilted slightly back for it to drain completely. If you fail to do this waste water collects in the bottom resulting in an extremely foul odor coming from the box.

Bottom line: There are still many bugs to be worked out with the system, some of which are so obvious I wonder why the maker hadn't corrected them.

If you willing to play with the system to get it working the box will eventually work.

Some draw backs: The little plastic pellets get kicked out of the box by the cats. They do sell a hood for the box now.

Refills in the Boston area seem to be avialable only online and run approx. $15 per refill ( 60 flushs ). With three cats that works out to be a refill a month.
