Pros: Great place to take the whole family; Lots of things to do Cons: Built in the 1940s; aggressive concierges
If you are looking for a convenient location to vacation with your family in San Diego, CA, Catamaran Resort Hotel may be the place for you. The following review consists of my observations of the amenities I like during my recent spring break. For ...
Pros: Location, Price, Room Views, Restaurants, Pool, Weather, Friendly Staff, Resort Feel Cons: Older Hotel, Slow Cleaning Service
I almost changed my reservation for this hotel after reading some of the reviews but I decided to try it. I was pleasantly surprised. While some of the reviews are right and the hotel is probably a little older I thought it was nice. It was not overly ...
Pros: Excellent street location in Ocean/Pacific Beach.
An adequate hotel. Cons: Older units need work.
Not luxurious.
On the bay, not the ocean.
Quite honestly, we had expected more luxury at this hotel, given its high prices. The spacious lobby is visually stunning with a high waterfall splashing into a lovely koi pond. The island decor suggests you've reached Fiji, not a San Diego beach ...
Put simply, the Catamaran Resort Hotel in San Diego is a beautiful hotel. When you walk in to the lobby you are greeted with a beautiful waterfall spilling into a koi pond--after you check in you just might run into a parrot or two near your room. The ...
Stinky, Old and Poor Service by aymolina ,Sep 12 '06
Pros: Children's beach toys provided Cons: Dirty and old accommodations, lack of customer service, and too expensive
The Catamaran Resort is an old, dirty hotel, and we would never stay there again. The front lobby and spa is very deceiving and a complete cover-up for the rest of the place. They claimed to have internet connection which was a lie. The kitchen smelled of rotten eggs, the stove did not work, the beds were horrible, and the carpeting felt like a cat's scratching post. There was never anyone attending the towel desk at the pool or the beach, and they forbid you to take the towels from your own room. On top of all this, someone from housekeeping stole from our room! If you're looking for a fun, pleasant, relaxing family vacation, DO NOT STAY HERE!!!
Catamaran: not San Diego's best by jessclaire22 ,Jul 08 '05
Pros: good location, kitchen,TV had lots of good movies to rent Cons: older hotel
We stayed at Catamaran for Thanksgiving 2004. I really did like the lounge area because it had a nice tropical theme. When we went to go to our room, it was very hard to find and there were no signs or people to help. Once we got in the room, it wasn't very big for a suite. They did have a nice kitchen area though, which was complete with a full size refrigerator and utensils. Also, the balcony overlooking the bay was nice.

Overall, Catamaran was good, but it's still not the best in San Diego.
Catamaran is well past her prime by aberfeldy ,Aug 22 '05
Pros: Children will like the free video game arcade Cons: Parents will dislike the old and dirty rooms
The Catamaran was probably an excellent place to stay - 20 years ago. Virtually everything about the hotel is old and in need of updating or replacement.
The hotel is on the bay and not on the ocean. My young children would not use the refrigerator in our room because it smelled.
I would not stay in this hotel again and can't see how anyone would ever rate is above 3 stars. The Catamaran is like a once beautiful actress well past her prime - no amount of make-up can hide the fact that she is falling apart.
