Wow!! It's Almost Like Your Kitchen Sink Has a Built-In Hot Water Dispenser!!

by daquan Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Oct 23 '08
Pros: Gives you super fast hot water faster than your microwave oven!
Cons: Short power cord.
WHAT'S THE 411 ON THIS PRODUCT?I used to have to boil water on the stove in a small or medium-size pot and it would seem like forever and a day for the water to boil! I was always told that a watched pot never boils. And that is seemingly ...

Good kettle

by jennw , Feb 15 '08
Pros: Well-designed on switch
Cons: Sides get hot
I received this electric kettle as a gift about 2 months ago and have used it quite heavily ever since. So far, it has held up as a reliable, good-quality kitchen appliance. This is the first electric kettle I have ever owned, and only about the ...

The Burn Machine
by arethaw ,May 25 '06
Pros: stainless steel
Cons: plastic top, no ding alarm, not so fastboiling, easy to burn one's self while using
This was the only electric stainless steel kettle available at the store I went to. I wanted to get a stainless kettle instead of boiling my water in plastic, which I've recently decided to be paranoid about. This thing doesn't heat remarkably fast, the water level gauge on the side doesn't measure in workable incriments (litres, not cups). I like to know that I've poured in exactly 2 cups of water, not 1.5 liters!!! Anyway. It doesn't boil remarkably quickly, it doesn't make a dinging noise when the water has come to a boil, and when I poured the water out it splashed all over the top of my hand which was boiling water and it hurt. Also I brushed up against the unit when it was hot, also burning!! I think I burnt myself 4 times using it for the first time. It went immidiately back in the box and I'll be returning it tomorrow.

Nice design
by wmtimm627 ,Dec 08 '08
Pros: Quick hot water, handy cordless design.
Cons: Small opening on top, a little dificult to fill
I bought this unit to make tea. I then discovered that it is excellent for making intant soups that just require you to add hot water. I wish the top was a little bigger so I could cook eggs in it. Alas, I'll have to purchase a different model to allow me to do this or I'll just stick with the sauce pan on the stove.

As far as the stale smells that I've read in other reviews, here is my suggestion: I have been using ONLY filtered water (such as Brita) for many years in my coffee/espresso makers and in this unit also. I have never experienced any unpleasant smell from the unit at all. Other reviewers have probably never noticed a stale smell from other hot water devices because the coffee aroma is much more noticeable.

I do agree that the outside of the unit tends to get pretty hot, but I live alone and have always been careful about the placement of any appliance like this. It's only common sense. I have measured the outside temperature of the unit using my laser thermometer and have never seen it read higher than 140 degrees F.

tasted like plastic
by df07 ,Jan 16 '07
Pros: It heated well, it was very convenient, priced right and attractive.
Cons: Tasted bad, smelled bad. The cord would not stay wound up under the base.
Bought one in December and even though I heated 6 or 7 full pots to boiling with clean filtered water, the plastic smell and taste didn't leave. Used it for a month and it never changed. Had to return it. I will try one more and see if it has the same problem. I was so excited to be able to heat a substantial amount of water at a time.

3 Defective Ones in a Row!
by madenton ,Aug 11 '09
Pros: Stainless steel, boiled very hot water quickly
Cons: 3 kettles were defective, in that they leaked shortly after purchase, creating a dangerous hazard
I received my first kettle in Jan. 2009 and it worked fine for 2 months. At that point, it developed some brown coloring in the inside and started leaking from the circumference seam near the bottom of the kettle. I requested a replacement, which I received in March 2009.  I have used this kettle with no problems until a week ago. Then it started leaking, this time from the holes in the bottom of the kettle. I asked Chef's Catalog to send me a 3rd replacement because I really wanted a stainless steel kettle. I received the 3rd kettle yesterday, August 10th. As soon as I filled it and plugged it in, it started leaking from the holes in the bottom and quickly spilled all over my counter and onto my stove. Clearly these 3 kettles are defective. I am now returning this 3rd kettle today for a refund and will try another brand.

Practical.
by sheepsheep ,Jan 08 '08
Pros: Light weight. Practical. Easy to use and clean.
Cons: The cord doesn't stay in it's place under the kettle's plate.
I got this as a gift from my bridal shower. I use this every day. It's so easy, it boils quickly and it's very efficient.

I use this to boil tea bags or just plain hot water. Easy to bare minimal cleanup. I can have tea all day with this nifty kettle. I just click the button and I have hot tea in a minute.

It can boil up to 1.7L or about 7 mugs of hot water in 2 minutes.

This kettle is a keeper. A mainstay in my kitchen counter top.

Impressed initially
by ryedale ,Jun 19 '09
Pros: Looks good, easy to use and boils water quickly
Cons: Made the water taste terrible which gave our tea a weird taste
My husband and I are English and are big tea drinkers.  We have used electric kettles for years for their ease of use and how quick they boil water.
I was initially impressed with the Chefs Choice and how quickly it boiled the water.  However after two days we kept wondering why our tea tasted different and not very good.  We then realised that the plastic inside the lid was emitting this really horrible plastic smell when the water was boiled and thus must be making the water taste bad.
