Pros: Clears up sinuses quickly and keeps them that way for 12-plus-hours, without bothersome side-effects. Cons: Sluggish for first hour after medication began working
Background: No one medication is right for everyone. Despite Alavert working well for my mother, it does nothing for me. Zyrtec works, but leaves me with a headache. <
b>Benadryl
makes me go to sleep and ...

Pros: It works.
Cons: Not available until after the first of the year!!!!! BOO HOO!!!!
Chlortrimeton 12 hour is also the only thing that works well for my allergies. I have used it for years. But recently it has disappeared from the shelves. I called the manufacturer, Shering Plough, and was told it would be unavailable until after the ...

Chlor-Trimeton 12 hour Tablets
by rocketbz ,Jul 17 '04
Pros: Always works Cons: Getting hard to find
I have been using this product for over 30 years. I do not need to use it every night, but I would not want to be without having it for those nights were my allergies start to act up.

Chlor-Trimeton 12 hour works
by joeevtc ,May 01 '06
Pros: Works as advertised and for 12 hours. Cons: Sometimes the 12 hour is hard to find in stores in the Midwest.
I have suffered from allergies and tried everything from prescription to OTC. This is the only product that alleviates my symptoms. I am extremely allergic to pollen, pet dander, and numerous airborne allergens. I had trouble finding the 12 hour in stores, thank goodness I can find it pretty easily on-line.

Great Stuff, but becoming scarce
by davegerard ,Sep 04 '05
Pros: Best hayfever product available in my opinion. Cons: Very scarce. Can not find it in any stores any more.
I too, have taken this stuff for more than 30 years. It is the only stuff that has ever worked 100%. My wife, who would always get prescription Allegra and found no relief, tried Clor-Trimeton and was happy to finally have something that actually worked.
Newer products from the same maker, like Claritin, don't work as well. Nor does the 4hour Chlor-Trimeton. Generic products don't even come close to the relief that Chlor-Trimeton 12hour has given me.
The biggest problem that I see is that it has become widely unavailable. Everywhere I check I see the 4mg (4 hour), but neither the 8 or 12 hour. I MEAN EVERYWHERE. I am considering buying online from Canada, but I would like to know just what has happened, that this product isn't readily available. Is Schering-Plough going to discontinue it? Then what am I going to do. Maybe I should be looking for a replacement now.
If someone can tell me where, at any large USA retailer, I can get this stuff, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.
David

Works for me better than other choices
by carole_f ,Feb 28 '08
Pros: Non-drowsy (for me), fast onset, stops my symptoms better than any other antihistamine. Cons: Currently not available in my neighborhood. I have to buy it online.
It's very frustrating - in my neighborhood, the 12-hour version has disappeared, but I can still buy a 4-hour generic, so obviously this is marketing, not a problem with the ingredient.
This is the only antihistamine that completely works for me. I don't get drowsy, onset is fast, and nothing else stops my allergic cough. It also addresses my hay fever extremely well.
The only active ingredient is chlorpheniramine maleate, which has been around for decades. I was allowed to take it all through my pregnancy (but mostly chose not to).

Chlor-Trimeton 12-Hour
by citrow ,Jul 24 '08
Pros: The only medication that actually works for me Cons: None for me
I've been taking the 12-hour for years and have noticed that it's been replaced by a 4-hour version in every store in my area. So in a panic I called the Schering-Plough (the MFG) and they said that the 12-hour WILL be back on the market in late 2009. They are switching manufacturing companies and will put you on a list to receive a letter when it's available again. This is great news, as this is the only product that really works for me.
Call their customer service number (800-317-2165) to be put on the list to be notified when it's back on the market.

by indnow ,Mar 18 '08
Pros: Safe, non drowsy, effective and moderately priced. I have used it for 5 years. Cons: Can no longer find the 12 hour Chlor Trimeton in Brand name or generic.
I can't find Chlortimeton in the stores or on the internet. I use it for my chronic sinusitis. What is the reason for its disappearance? Kathy
