Avoid Cingular in KC (And the Rest of Kansas)
by brock-l ,Oct 18 '06
Pros: Cooler phones Cons: What good is a cool phone when you can't get a signal.
I live near the KC metro, and have had Cingular before and after they switched to GSM.
Before they did, Cingular was one of the top providers in the area. Since they switched to the GSM network, the coverage in Kansas and KC is horrible. More often than not in the KC area you can't get a reliable signal with Cingluar. When you can, you better not move. If I ever traveled out of the KC/Topeka area, I finally got to where I would leave my phone at home.
To use the phone at home, I had to hold it up next to one particular window in the house, and then I could usually get 2 bars.
CDMA carriers like Verizon and Alltel have KC (and the state) very well covered. While their phones aren't as flashy, and their plans are a little more expensive, it is worth it to be able to get a signal and actually use the phone.
