Pros:Remember When It Rained - Makes me wanna go find my glass slippers... Cons: He slips into Celine Dion territory with You Raise Me Up...
Hello. My name is Kristina and I am a hopeless romantic. It's all Walt Disney's fault. He subjected me many years ago to Cinderella and ever since then, I can't shake that feeling that I want to be swept off of my feet. I want love and r ...
Pros: Lovely voice, well trained and full of fire. Cons: Let's face it, musicially, this is nearly identical to his first cd.
I wasn't too certain that I would enjoy listening to Josh Groban. Then I got my hands on the first cd, and as they say, I was hooked. I usually don't get to hear young male vocalists have this sort of depth to their music. Here we get songs in ...
Pros: Groban has grown vocally and artistically. Cons: A lot of sadness.
Josh Groban returns with Closer a follow-up to hi
s
debut album. Closer is more romantic relying less on guest vocalists but still retaining an international feel. Producer David Foster returns ...
Pros: True, magnificent, simple vocals. Cons: Too many foreign songs.
There is nothing more refreshing than a true, talented vocalist. Instruments and sound affects make music better but there is nothing that compares to a vocalist. When a great voice starts a song and reaches ranges and notes that send chills up and down ...
Pros: - "Mi Mancherai" shows Josh is still a talented singer Cons: - Performance seems too soft and laid back most of the time
While listening to Josh Groban's new release "Closer", I just couldn't help but compare and contrast to his debut disk and his live CD/DVD. While the first one was very impressive for me on many levels despite slight over-production, I can't help but ...
Pros: He has an exquisite voice and, unlike Russell Watson, knows how to sing. Cons: Material that tries to be memorable, but doesn't quite make it.
If I had written this review immediately after I had listened to the CD the first time through, I would have given it only one star at the most. Such was the expectation after Josh Groban's first album, and such was the disappointment. After a day or ...
Pros: Fantastic soaring moments. Beautiful lyrics and artistry Cons: A couple "flat" songs
It is so interesting to me the difference between people and their tastes in music. When I saw this album come out I IMMEDIATELY downloaded it from iTunes Music Store. I couldn't have been more excited. I promptly listened to it through twice before I ...
Pros: Wonderful voice, good performances, orchestrations Cons: sometimes reaches a bit too far with the material
Josh Groban has a wonderful voice…only 22 years old, he shows terrific power and range in his music. It’s definitely a commercial album…which is not a bad thing to say. If an artist wants to be successful, he needs to have a commercial appeal. ...
Pros: A beautiful collection of mood-setting music Cons: I'm afraid there are none
I read the other reviews on this site and felt compelled to speak, or rather write. I thought this was a forum for product review, not artist bashing. Closer should be what is judged here, not Josh Groban. I just thought I'd throw that out ...
Good album for once-in-a-while listening by duffles ,Jan 10 '04
Pros: Decent sounding stuff. Worth listening to. Cons: Not enough variety for CD to stay in my player for extended periods.
While this is an alright album for background music, I don't consider it the type of album you would want to put on loop. There's this one song--"You let me GO, You let me GO"--you'll know what I mean after hearing it a few times...
Overall, it's an alright album, but not one that I would buy. If it were a film, I'd rent it, but not see it in theater or buy the DVD. Then again, I've never been a huge fan of Groban.
Josh Groban has done it again! by lrkover ,Nov 12 '03
Pros: Amazing song choices highlighting a superb voice. Cons: The only downfall is there are no translations for the lyrics.
The sophomore studio CD attempt by singer Josh Groban in my opinion has far exceeded expectations by myself and many more of his fans.
I bought the CD because I love his voice and I am completely intrigued with this young mans choices in music. You can be sure, when you pick it up at the music store, that you will be transported in your mind to many different places. Whether it be Italy, France, America, or in the case of You Raise Me Up to the rolling hills of Ireland!
My only complaint about "Closer" is that it does not last forever! With only 13 songs you unfortunately have to start it over at some point to continue to hear his amazing voice!
Pros: Great voice, great songs Cons: language pronunciations
We like this new album, although not as much as his first. Only complaint is that sometimes Josh sounds unsure when singing in foreign languages. I will still highly recommend this to his fans.
Closer -- To being on Billboard's top 40. by kelcilu ,Mar 07 '04
Pros: That amazing gorgeous voice, the French song Hymne A L'amour. Cons: Possibly a cross-over CD (Classical to pop? So sad...)
I love Josh Groban's first CD, and the DVD of Josh Groban in concert featured one of my favorite songs ever -- Broken Vow. So when I saw that "Closer" featured that exact song, I bought it right away.
My first impression of the CD was similar to his first; the gorgeous voice singing in the Romantic languages makes me swoon. Mi Mancherai (Il Postino)struck me as a particular powerful song, and Hymne A L'amour is a beautifully sung French song. The reason I bought the CD in the first place, Broken Vow, is actually slightly different than the DVD, but still a very good song. The other English songs, however, fail to impress me. The voice behind them is still wonderful, but the lyrics and the general cheesiness of them remind me of a Disney movie's soundtrack.
All in all, it's still an extremely good CD for the vocals and the French, Spanish, Italian, and Latin songs, but the English songs make no attempt at hiding cliche lyrics.
Pros: Great vocal growth, delicate treatment of music and great confidence! Cons: some songs are a little over-cheesy
A safe and yet dashing selection of musical compositions which, with the addition of that gentle but confident voice, I think that there are some really killer performances on this album. I've heard Pavorotti sing Caruso and I think Josh Groban has actually done a much better job with this gentle piece than even Il Maestro himself. Overall, Josh uses his formal training at Interlocken, spectacular vocal control and above all a wonderfully smooth baritone voice to bring these classical pieces of the vocal performance world alive.
