Pros: multiple alert modes, SmartMute, VG-2 alert suppression Cons: oversensitive to X-band, sometimes tough to slide onto holder
While I'm not usually one to flout the speed limits on the open highway (sometimes you'll find me driving a tick or two below the posted limit), I sometimes tend to lead-footed behavior through small towns and other wide spots in the road. Bad...
Today, Cobra makes some of the most popular radar detectors on the market. I wonder, how do they do it? Well, these line of Cobras have a very nice curvy style, very sexy... Indeed. The Cobra ESD-9210CS is the base model, and retails with a $125 ...
Pros: NOne Cons: will not detect until your right on the source. detects other radar detectors.
I have used the ESD9210 for a month in town and on the road and if you depend on it to tell you if your being radared you will be in trouble. On one occassion I spotted a highway patrolman out side his car aiming his gun at me and the ESD9210 didn't go...
Pros: Fast shipping, Good quality, nice and compact Cons: Only recieve K and Ka band, no lasers so far. Strobe alert does not work
I've been using it for about two weeks now. I drive two hours everyday on highways and cities and so far i have not received a single laser signal. The signals that seem to be most accurate are the K and Ka band. The X band goes off the most but it is...
Pros: Intelli-mute Cons: it says 10 band when indeed its only 3 police bands.
I bought this radar detector because my old inexpensive one didn't allow me enough time to slow down(so I recieved a ticket) Now I bought the Cobra and it works pretty good. Most of the cops around here are all on K band and a few state troopers on X band. It picks up X band really well. The K band is what are town cops are on and it lacks a little bit in performance. All though it picks up the radar before I see the cop, the cops usually not too far away. He's usually on a different side of the block or over the next hill.
Pros: voice alert, stylish, easy to use, and affordable Cons: sometimes ineffective
I just recently got the ESD-9210 Cobra radar detector and haven't had much time to use it but I have used it a little and from what I've gotten from it is that there are pros and cons to the performance of this radar/laser detector.
The first thing I noticed when using it was that a lot of times it doesn't give you any warning until the cop is very close to you. One or two times when I was using the detector it didn't give any warning until I saw the cop but that could have been due to an interference from something else.
A few nice features on it include the intellimute which allows you to tell the detector when to mute the warnings when your car is running at certain rpm's. Another nice feature is the ability to switch it from voice alerts and just tone alerts. It is also a stylish looking design that looks good in any car.
Pros: Rather inexpensive Cons: Difficult mounting, effectiveness questionable.
While I continue to use this radar detector, I still wonder whether or not it is effective. It detects many signals, mostly inocuous railroad and radio waves. I have yet to experience a signal that police are using radar. I actually visually saw the police cruiser well before the detector alerted me. I attributed that to other factors, a hill, sunshine, wind speeds, etc. But I still have yet to get a verifiable alert.
Worst detector I have ever owned by ssebastian ,Mar 22 '05
Pros: Looks sylish, inexpensive, cool talking feature Cons: poor K-KA sensitivity, many X-false alarms, many false Safety alerts, many laser false alarms
If you get POPped, you're finished. Besides going off constantly for the Safety alerts and laser, this thing doesn't give you any time to slow down when POPped (a real threat). I was ~100ft behind a car that was POPped (200ft from the gun), not a peep! When I was targeted (about 100ft from the gun), one buzz (signal strength 1) and all silent, passed the gun next guy targeted behind me (I was about 50ft passed the gun) and not a peep. This thing does like to cry about X-band door openers, it may not find the cops, but it sure can find the malls. Not a top choice if you are looking for reliability, best to go with a TOL Bel or Escort.

I purchased this radar detector... by bothwell_dt3000 ,Dec 15 '02
I purchased this radar detector for one reason: I like to go fast. However, just by buying a radar detector does not give anyone the right to speed.
I can honestly say cruising on empty roads at any time of day/night, we all speed occasionally. Even with the music cranked up loud, I still was able to notice the "K Alert"
The musical tone was unable to be heard, but the voice speaking "K Alert" alerted me so I slammed on the breaks. Moments later around a bend was a cop. Nice job Cobra. I have experieced 6 occasions where I believe that the radar detector has protected me from unwanted tickets. LASER is very hard to detect unless its shot directly at you, and that means RUN. If you see the laser flashing on the screen, you can either give up or look for a quick exit.
For the price and accuracy: 7/10
