Pros: Great for stroke patients and others who need communication for aid. Cons: Instructions are unclear.
Recently, I was at my parents' home. My Mom commis-
erated. She was glad we were there to be inside with Dad
while she got some needed yard work done. After his
stroke, she hesitates to go out in their yard with noisy

Pros: Good quality unit, decent range, easy to use, 42 channels. Cons: Lousy holster design, rounded corners make it hard to hold.
Cobra generally makes very good electronics; I have one of their CB radios bought in 1976 which still works fine. This radio has good innards but leaves something to be desired in shape. Whether this is a problem for you, you'll have to decide.

Pros: Price, Durability, Thin, decent features. Cons: Buttons too easy to bump, battery meter wonky, no scan
I purchased this pair of radios from Costco for $128CDN ($80US), so it was a steal. It wasn't so much that $80US for 2 radios was a steal, but the fact that it came with 2 sets of NiMH rechargable batteries and a desktop charger for 2 radios. Those...
Pros: Easy to use; plenty of channels; nice price Cons: Turns on too easily - batteries drain; slides out of clip-on holder too easily
The Cobra 220 family radios were the right price at $70 for a pair of them. We have used these radios for six months, while driving in separate cars, at the airport, skiing and at the mall.
Pros: Good placement of controls, key lock Cons: Too easy to turn on or off
Cobra has another good radio with this model. They come only in a two-pack, of either eggplant or charcoal. They are water resistant, which means that there is a seal around the battery door. Never having used them in a rain storm, I don't know if it...
Pros: Backlight, Sleek, Privacy Codes Cons: Doesn't have a range of 2 miles for me.

I bought these radios in the spring of 2001 planning to use them on my trip to Dorney Park over the spring break. They worked wonderfully with only a few flaws.

Pros: Cheap, Volume Control, Various Channels Cons: There are no real cons
I have just recently purchased a cobra radio, for a steal of a deal price. Let me tell you this radio is truly great. There is volume control, so people can adjust what volume they want to send and receive messages in. It has security controls, so...
Pros: Easy to use, clear communication, easy to recharge with optional charger Cons: One ring tone only. Holder is flimsy and does not hold well.
Bought the pair at Costco in Canada prior to a Disney Cruise and a visit to Magic Kingdom. Came with NiCd battery and charger.
Very easy to use. My wife the technophobe mastered it in less than one hour and now wondered how we ever lived without one...
Pros: Great price, good features, flex antenna Cons: flimsy holder
Me and my girlfriend purchased these radios in January of 2002. The main purpose of buying these radios was for use on our motorcycles. We found a company that makes headsets to use in motorcycle helmets that support this radio and several others. So...
Pros: low cost, small size, uses standard channels they all use Cons: no battery charge or talk time, shuts itself off, constant squacking noise
My best friend and I purchased this radio as a replacement for ones we had based on the price and the great write-up on the package. From day one, mine continued to pick up every background noise around. This has never been resolved. At four months...
Pros: Lock function keeps from inadvertently changing settings when picking it up Cons: Antenna is bothersome in belt holster
I have a disabled wife who can call me with the FRS when I'm out doing yard work or what ever. It works fine. I get static on the lower channels. It does well on Ch. 9 and higher around here. I haven't tried the extra channels because the 14 that are...
Pros: Great audio quality, the price is right. Cons: Powers up accidentally all the time
I purchased a pair of these at Costco last week and used them on a trip to Maine over the weekend. These are clearly among the best FRS radios I've ever used. So why am I returning them to Costco today? 2 reasons... first, the belt holder is useless. The...
Pros: Easy to use and gives a clear signal. Light and compact. Cons: Range about 1/2 of advertised. Replacement batteries not available.
These radios are great when they work. But do not expect to get anywhere near the range advertised. The radios come with a Li-on battery and this is the problem. If the battery fails the radio is a throw away. There are no replacements available.
We bought these radios to take with us on vacation. They work fine if you are outside and have a decent line of sight. They worked great at the beach, but even there, the range was nowhere near two miles. The best range we ever got was just a little less than one mile. Expect very limited range if one radio is indoors and the other is outdoors.
If you plan to use them at Disneyland or Sea World, forget it. There was so much radio traffic that there was virtually no way to hear the other person. We tried all the channels and all were jammed packed.
These are great walkie-talkies for the kids, way better than what we had in the 60's and 70's. For short range communications they are a pretty good deal. If you want to keep in contact with someone who is two miles away, I recommend you look elsewhere.
