Very Good Kayak

by cebird , May 09 '00
Pros: short, light, stable, underdeck storage
Cons: little above deck storage, not very quick
The Cobra Tandem kayak combines the portability of an OK Malibu II (12.5ft long) with the storage capacity of an OK Zest (600lbs). With 2 grown men, you ride high and dry, which is more than I can say for ALL other tandem sit-on-top kayaks. The Tandem...

Excellent Tandem

by mokuluanui , Jan 24 '01
Pros: Decent in surf, plenty of space for 2 paddlers, great handling, quality workmanship
Cons: slow, wide, tall sides making it difficult for small children to climb back in.
The Cobra Tandem surprised me with it's great handling. Since I paddle with my six year old son, I do all the paddling and the boat, while not the quickest in the water, is not as slow as I imagined. The CT turns on a dime, which makes it a real thrill...

Excellent Quality/ Good Performance
by scubadivr2 ,Jul 11 '04
Pros: Extremely Stable, Quality Construction
Cons: Possibly heavier than comparable models
Of course, as the other reviews indicate this is not the speediest kayak on the market; however, it wasn't designed to be. The fact that two 200 pound men could stand on this thing speaks to the tandem's main selling point: stability. I use this kayak for recreational purposes (I'm not sure what else you could use it for)-- I keep it on the deck of my sailboat. It's weight is comparable to similar models, maybe a little more. This kayak has much better construction than the types you buy at Wal-Mart, Costco, or those types of stores. I don't know the scientific difference in the plastic, but you can definitely tell that this one is better. Words of advice:
-Invest in decent seats, and don't even try it without a seat. I use Cobra's seats and they seem to be good quality, comfortable.

-Invest in carbon fiber handles: They are much lighter, and consequently more comfortable to hold over a longer period of time.
