Pros: A surprisingly robust system for such a cheap price. Cons: The remote is too damn small for my massive paws.
It was not too long ago that my mom sent me a whole bunch of home movies that she wanted me to dub and edit and clean up on my computer. Since I had a video capture card already plugged into my rig, I thought the easiest thing to do would be to get a DVD ...
Pros: Cheap, Compact size, okay features for such a low-ender... Cons: Cheap (in terms of quality), required patients to get it working correctly.
I bought this DVD player for practical reasons. Paid $34.95 for it but have seen it for as low as $29.95 in stores. Pricewise, its a winner. Also was one of the few around that was small enough to fit into the cramped space I needed it to fit into. ...
Pros: Very low price and all the features you need Cons: Audible hum when reading
Like most people who have reviewed this product (it seems), I purchased this DVD player as a secondary system for use in our spare tv. At a surprisingly cheap $24, I wasn't expecting a lot from it, but I got more than I expected. When I was ...
Pros: Easy to use and very inexpensive. Cons: None
I purchased this DVD player for my daughter to use. We have owned it for quite sometime and have had no issues with it. Price This DVD player costs next to nothing. For that reason, I have no concerns with allowing my daughter to operate ...
Pros: So extremely cheap, yet it works without complaint. Cons: Um, haven't really found one. Maybe our standards are low.
We've had our Coby (and has anyone else noticed it's in a font reeeeally similar to Sony?) DVD player for almost two years now and it's been a pleasant surprise. Okay, in October 2005 we sat through a time-share presentation because they offered us a ...
Pros: Cheap, Does the job, light weight, Easy to use! Cons: Can be destroyed easily, Care when handling, not easily fixed.
Honestly if there is one DvD player that I see more then any its definitely this one. From place of business, to your friends house down the street. I owned one of these and I must say for the budget I had and the time it was needed I surely could say I ...
Pros: cheap; easy set-up Cons: bad remote, horrible video playback, no display screen on the unit
I bought this DVD player as a cheap replacement for a DVD player I don't use very much. Price was the only consideration and Fry's electronics had 2 players at this price point. I chose the Coby because the remote had a better layout. Hookup was ...
Pros: None Cons: Skips, menu features are not helpful, cusotmer support terrible.
I would not recommend spending the money on this product. Save up and get something a little bit nicer and you will be happy that you decided to do it. This player always seems to skip on every dvd, even new ones. I do not recommend ...
Pros: Ok features when they work Cons: Buttons are hard to activate on remote. Life expectancy about 30 DVD's or 1 month.
I purchased this DVD to replace my old APEX. It was cheap $30 or so. At first it worked fine and I watched about 30 DVD's after which it would only read about every 5th DVD I tried. The unit will display no disc after about 2 minutes of trying to read it. I will still however play music just fine. So I would pass on this and save up some more to get a better quality unit. You'll save money in the long run.
Great low-end DVD player. by scottbaker ,Mar 20 '05
Pros: Low cost, plenty of features, small size Cons: Questionable lifespan, low quality video cable
I just bought this DVD player at a local retailer since I needed a DVD player to put in my bedroom. I wasn't looking for anything fancy, especially considering the TV in there is only 17" with mono audio. The Coby DVD-224 did not let me down!
It has a really surprising number of features for a low-end DVD player. It has some things not normally on DVD players, including Contrast, Volume control, Mute, etc. Coby is really trying to tackle the low end market, and I think they're doing a great job.
You have to understand that this isn't the DVD player you're going to want to have powering your 60 High Definition Plasma TV with 7.1 surround, but it's a hell of a player for that spare bedroom, or the kid's room.
I've had no issues with it so far, worked flawlessly out of the box. So if you're looking for that second or third DVD player, this is probably a good place to start.
I have a COBY 224 that I got from Direct TV . We have used it one time and it does not work any more . We have no kids around so it has not fell or got bumped or nothing of that sort . How does something just sit there and break down .
I paid $40 for this so I didn't expect a lot of fancy features or the greatest picture and sound quality, but do I expect to be able to watch a movie from beginning to end without skipping or the picture turning into a checkerboard occasionally. It skipped on all DVD discs from Blockbuster. Even the new, unscratchted, clean discs I could tell I was the first person to rent. It still skipped when I cleaned the clean discs. Interestingly, it wouldn't skip in the same place twice. I returned it and the next one did the same thing. I returned that one, got a refund, and went to a thrift store and bought a used Phillips DVD player for $43 made in the year 2000, it works better and is still working now, and the picture quality is better! I'd gladly pay an extra $5-$10 to make this thing work because it's probably not a serious flaw. But I won't put up with this cheap junk as is. It probably won't last long.
Pros: Many functions offered from remote, good picture quality and sound Cons: lasts less than a month, poor durability, expensive for quality
I didn't have many expectations for a DVD player that I bought from my campus bookstore at a rate of $50. However, I do expect to play DVD's in it after a month of use. After only a month, the "wrong disk" kept showing up and would not even play brand new DVD's. While it was working it worked great and had many options I would not expect of such a cheap DVD player. It offers contrast control, volume control, and several different options from the remote. If you lose the remote, don't plan to watch anything until you find it. It had good quality for a couple weeks but then starts screwing up. I would not even recommend this for the poor college student.
Pros: Compact and works for 2 months. Cons: Stop working after 2 months.
I bought this DVD about 6 months ago for my daughter. I like the very compact design and thought that this will be very practical for her to have it in her small dorm room.
Unfortunately, this DVD player only worked for the first 2 months. About 4 months after that, she brought this broken player home and I called the customer service. The officer told me easily that I was late because the warranty is only for 90 days.
If you like to have a DVD player that has a very compact size and perform good pictures in your TV for only 2 months, then you should consider this model.
I was given one of these as a gift. It was brand new still in an unsealed box. I didn't expect much from it after seeing it but boy was I in for a surprise. I actually got it to play a DVD, and I'm talking all the way from beginning to end. a couple of weeks later I tried to play another DVD. Please note, these are original DVDs, not copies. I couldn't get it to play the second one at all. I tried everything I could think of but it wouldn't play. I called customer service and told them about it and with glee quite audible in the man's voice he said "gee, that's too bad. You should have called 5 days ago and we would have replaced or repaired it but your 30 days is up." This piece of trash isn't worth what I paid for it. and remember, it was a gift. I'm glad their customer service guy was so happy though. I'm glad when I can make people happy. Do not buy this player. It and the company should be jailed for fraud.
