Pros: Cheap, comes off pretty easy and lasts long for a Carnauba wax. Cons: Doesn't fulfill manufacturers claims, not the best for the average Joe.
In the world of automotive detailing, I am what you would call a "dangerous weekend warrior". That is to say, I do not detail professionally, but I do own much of the equipment pros use and can put out a finished product that might run you ...
Pros: Longevity and gloss, relatively easy to apply Cons: You had better buy on line or through mail order. Very few retail stores carry.
I live in the northwestern section of Michigan's lower peninsula. Winters can be harsh on a car's finish with a combination of road grime and salt building up on a car's finish.
Collonite No. 476S is the best wax I have used to date for...
Pros: Probably the LONGEST lasting Carnauba wax and Excellent Shine. Cons: Must remove before completely dry.
I found the Collinite line of products about a year ago and must say I am EXTREMELY impressed with each one I try! I thought I was sold on the 845 Liquid Insulator, but now my favorite is the 476s.
Pros: Nothing sticks to it. Unbelievably durable Cons: None
I first purchased this wax at a boat show about 4 years ago. Collinite makes a line of boat waxes too that were on display, but when I saw they had some for cars I decided to check it out. I always like trying new things. I have used just about...
Pros: Makes good Paint Stripper!!! Cons: Makes good Paint Stripper!!!
I found a can of this "Doublecoat" in my basement from I don't know when, and it CLAIMED TO BE THE BEST!!! so i figured, what the heck! When I used it it paled the Yellow on my 1989 Corvette Convertible... SO NOW I HAVE A HALF/HALF, 2 Tone CAR!!!! I ...
Pros: Made in Utica NY. Durability, Longevity, Beading, shine. The best.5 Stars Cons: must buy the doublewax online. pay shipping. found the liquid at "Carquest" $10.49+tax
Simply the best product I have ever found. I have tried them all. After 30 yrs of waxing cars, this is THE best. You pay a little bit more upfront for the product (I paid $15+ Ship at Waxbytes) but one application of the "Doublewax" will last 4 months ...
Pros: Shine, Protection, longevity, and price Cons: I can't think of any at the moment
I have tried many waxes before this one. But after using this i can't stop looking at the brilliant shine this gives along with exceptional protection from the elements. There is a noticable difference between this and all the others i used. electric orbital buffer was used to apply and i let dry for about 30 min. Taking it off was not easy but not too difficult. But, the results just speaks for itself!
Pros: Easy to use, deep luster, good durability. Cons: Prep the paint properly before you apply it.
Ive never used Collinite as Ive always resorted to P21s. However looking into winter protection I was recommended Collinite 476 for its durability.
I initially washed and clayed my car. I then applied some Autoglym Super resin Polish. Over the top of this I applied the collinite.
Easy to apply and buff off. A little more work is needed then P21s, but it left a deep luster as the tin said. Very pleased with the product and the water beading is ridiculous.
Hopefully it will last a UK winter after which I can resort to P21s in the summer.
Pros: None yet. Cons: Difficult application and removal.
Last winter(January '06) I ordered Collinite 476. Yesterday I opened it and applied it to my auto. I expected an easy, paste-like application, but it was much harder. That's fine. The bigger problem came with buffing. It did NOT come off easily with a power buffer and left tiny, grit-like bits of wax that I then needed to remove by hand with chamoise.
It's almost as if the wax hardened in the unopened can over a course of a few months. The true test will come now, that it's on the auto.
