I had to spend a lot of hours searching for function, quality and price. Once I made my mind up on the minimum requirements I picked the Compaq 900US. Part was cost, $1399 - $250.

I have had 2 Toshiba's and 2 Compaq's and was serviced well...

Pros: This computer is easy to use and understand, even for beginners.
Cons: This model doesn't have enough memory for even basic uses and is a bit bulky.

The model we received was a gift. Not too long after we had the computer we experienced problems with the keyboard malfunctioning. We had to send it back to HP/Compaq for repairs,annoying but they fixed the problem.

Recently we had the computer "cleaned up" by a tech to speed things up and that has helped. It is a good computer for basic jobs like creating word documents, working online, etc.

I highly recommend buying additional memory if the model you purchase doesn't have it as it can take a long time to boot up and process simple commands---especially if you store pictures and documents on it. I don't recommend this-if you have a lot of docs and pics store them on a separate storage device.

Overall I would give this model a C or B- based on other models I have worked with. It is a good computer for beginners or those who would like to do simple tasks and is adaptable for using USB devices, wireless cards etc.

However, for our next laptap/notebook purchase we will not buy this model and probably won't buy a Compaq.
