the alpha omega car seat
by smz1014 ,Feb 15 '05
Pros: fits all of our cars Son is very happy in it holding up great
Cons: I honestly don't have any cons for this seat.
I have to say I love this car seat. I have had no problems with the straps twisting..I find making any adjustments needed for my son very easy. So far only one hand has been needed for any changes I have made for him. He is of course growing very quickly and it seems I am constantly making adjustments to give him more room. My son seems very comfy in this seat. No crying at all when he is put into this seat. With in minutes he is usually asleep. Since this seat reclines back his head stays in place and does not end up hanging forward. Also for those interested in purchasing one I have found it at BJ's wholesale club (if you have one near by) for only $109.00 which I don't see listed on this site..

Good for transition from infant to toddler
by ryansmom2003 ,Dec 01 '03
Pros: 5 point harness; Son seems comfortable.
Cons: Haven't seen any yet
We bought this when our son was 6 months old as he'd outgrown the infant seat (due to height and weight). It has worked well in our SUV and has transitioned well from rear facing to front facing. Seems to fit him well now, but after reading the reviews we'll have to wait and see if this really lasts for a few years (he's currently appx. 33 inches and 23 pounds). The only current problem is that it doesn't seem to be fitting as snugly against the car as the infant seat, but not sure if this is the design or the nature of the toddler seats.

Great for only child or twins who will be only children
by rx4caps ,Nov 29 '03
Pros: Easy to convert from one stage to the next, lots of comfortable padding. 4-point harness.
Cons: Straps need to be untwisted periodically, harness buckle a little complicated at first.
As a mother of adopted twins, knowing we would have no children to hand these seats down to, we found a 3 in one car seat a desirable option. After a couple months of tiring carrying a baby carrier in each arm, we bought the Alpha Omega seats. Our children were preemies and still tiny and we felt they were comfortable and safer in these seats. They are just about to convert to the booster stage, and we anticipate an even more convenient experience then. It is true the harness straps twist after some use. We solved this problem by removing them periodically to re-thread the straps, which we don't find too difficult, and at the same time vacuum the cheerios out of the seats and the car. All around these seats have been a great purchase for our family.

May not be the only seat you ever need.
by kaylakatie ,Nov 23 '03
Pros: Three stages, harness never needs rethreading, Can hold infants rearfacing up to 35 pounds.
Cons: Hard to adjust with infants, Booster not that great.
When my baby was five pounds, We put her in it and the straps fit nice. So we took a drive, one problem, it did not recline enough. So it wasn't until four months old it worked. The harness release lever in the front made it difficult to adjust. Then we switched her to the forward facing mode at 22 pounds. Now the harness release lever was easier to adjust. The only problem we had was that the straps twisted easily. We found removing the harness covers helped. Then after two years the wonderful seat started to fall apart. First the metal rod that connects the base to the seat fell out. Then after another year the buckle started to stick. So I called cosco and they were happy to send me another buckle and rod. Great but my preschooler is about to need a booster. Consumer reports does not reccomend this seat as a booster. This seat has narrow belt loop guides. The 7 year warrenty is only for the shell.

Infant use 5-35 pounds

Toddler use 22-40 pounds

Booster 30-80 pounds

buckle up?
by jhsk8 ,Jan 07 '05
Pros: this seat looked pretty comfortable for my little guy.
Cons: i was unable to master the buckle on this seat with a squirmy little boy.
It seems that you need an extra hand or a few extra fingers to buckle up your kids in this seat. if you are in a hurry, forget it. i was never able to master the buckle on this seat with a very squirmy little boy.

Great buy-versatile, sturdy, and a good value
by iloveluke ,Oct 11 '05
Pros: Long use(birth to booster), durable, attractive, comfy, adjustable, reclines
Cons: Puzzle-like bottom clip can be tricky, cover doesn't come off, a little bulky for traveling
This car seat can be used from birth through toddler, and even as a booster seat. My son has been in his for 2 1/2 years and it has no broken parts or problems. We have even taken it on airplane trips (being loaded beneath as baggage) and had no damage, torn fabric, or strap rips. Amazing, I wish they made luggage this tough. It reclines nicely for little ones, and sits up just right for my big boy. It has a removable headrest and pillow. They aren't perfect for those bobbing heads, but they are better than most. The only reason he is getting a new seat is so his baby sister can have his.

A bit of heaven and a bit of hell
by moffettmommy ,Jan 12 '07
Pros: huge seat accommodates any sized child, easy adjusting seat height, seat base, belt straps
Cons: straps do tangle up easily, HEAVY, removing the seat cushion to wash is VERY difficult
I read a few of the other reviews and a couple mentioned how the base is hard to remove. I never had a problem removing the base (I have the 04 or 05 elite model) all you do is move a little tab and a metal bar slides out easily, which releases the base from the rest of the seat. EASY!

I bought this seat when my daughter was maybe 6 months. She was really tall and outgrew her infant carseat, however she was still light in weight. I have used it since and she is now almost 3 and I have no plans of buying another seat.

It is up to you if you want to follow reviews in judging the seat, but I would highly recommend trying it out before you buy. ALSO, try it in your car! It seems to be meant for larger cars, but in forward-facing it fits well in smaller vehicles (I have a 05 chevy aveo).

Own alpha omega for 4 yrs now!
by jennmcadam ,Jan 08 '04
Pros: Very versitile. Very sturdy, can use it for 3+ years
Cons: Twisty straps, NOT good as booster!!
We've owned an Alpha omega car seat for 4 years now. We actually have two of them! (2 kids) I don't recommend it for really small infant (less than 3 months) but from 3 month to about 3 1/2 years. We have a dodge caravan, the seats fit well and secure. We have used both the alpha omegas in many differnt vehicles, they seem to fit well in all. They quite bulky though. We have both the Eddie Bauer (with all the added extras) as well as the plain blue seat. I recommend the Eddie Bauer one. The fabric holds up better, there are pockets on the sides that my 3 yr old love to store things, it comes with shoulder pads, and a pillow. Much nicer than the plain version.
I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS CAR SEAT USED AS A BOOSTER!!!! The design is quite poor when used as a booster seat. Now that our son has outgrown the toddler front position (40lbs) We are purchasing the Britax Starriser booster seat! Over all it's a good seat. CONS: straps ALWAYS twist. It's really big. NOT good as a booster. Hard to take apart to wash.

GREAT seat!
by mu6al ,Oct 25 '07
Pros: Durable, comfortable, safe, easy to use.
Cons: Umm... nothing.
We used this as a transition from and infant carrier. Our daughter is quite petite and she has been quite comfortable in this seat for over three years. The padding has stood up well to multiple washings and it is pretty easy to install in our Toyota Prius and to change the height of the straps. The Latch system is a breeze to use and makes us feel a little bit more comfortable with her safety. Honestly, love this seat.

We LOVE this seat
by nettajo02 ,Jul 03 '05
Pros: * versatile * innovative * extremely safe
Cons: none
I bought this product because it received GREAT reviews on the National Transportation & Safety website.
My son began using this seat when he was about 6 months old in the rear facing position and we LOVE it. He falls asleep nearly every car ride. I drive a 96 Buick Century and still have room for 2 passengers in the back in addition to the seat. It also fit well rear-facing in 96 Jeep Cherokee and 95 Chrysler Sebring. The only minor difficulty is that we needed to place a pool noodle or rolled up towel beneath the seat to assure that it was reclined at the correct angle.
Now that my son is 1 year old and over 20 lbs, he's forward facing. We have yet to have a problem with it.

Disappointing purchase
by micksmom2 ,Mar 22 '05
Pros: Nothing good about this carseat
Cons: Straps twist making it difficult to tighten
We purchased this carseat and have had nothing but problems with it. The straps twist all the time, making it difficult to downright impossible to tighten the straps. We bought this carseat because we got such a good deal on it ($89), but considering what a pain the straps are, I would say we wasted our money. I would never recommend this car seat to anyone.

Cosco Alpha Omega Convertible Car Seat
by ktbaird ,Jan 13 '04
Pros: The recline feature was wonderful!
Cons: Harness released to longest length was too tight for 2.5yr old(30 lbs) SAFETY CONCERN!!!
Comfortable through about 30 lbs. I like that it was convertible for an infant and then could be turned around for a toddler. After 30lbs, the harness no longer fit, even after releasing it out to its longest length. For a 2 1/2 year old I did not feel it was safe for just a shoulder harness to keep her in the seat so we had to purchase another car seat with a longer harness. The recline feature was also wonderful, especially when she fell asleep or for long trips.

Love this seat!
by sammyjnrtwins ,Mar 06 '07
Pros: Safety, Quality, Comfort
Cons: center strap.
I have twins and I love this seat. For the price and for the quality, I would recommend it for anyone. My twins love it, it seems very comfortable for them. The center strap that comes up from the bottom could have one more slot for bigger children, but the upper straps can be adjusted so that they are still comfortable and safe.

Stay Away From This
by mousemo ,Jan 23 '05
Pros: Works for the first day
Cons: Twisting straps, difficult to clean and harness will become impossible to tighten.
The harness will twist to the point that it become like a rope and will dig into the shoulders. I had to take this thing apart to untwist the straps about every 2 weeks. Have had this for 1 year and got so frustrated with it I threw it away. The harness also became difficult to tighten. Very difficult to clean because you have to disassemble to entire thing to get the covers off.

They could have fixed the twisting harness straps (the worst problem) simply by using a slightly thicker webbing.

I'd recommend looking for another seat.

Great car seat if you don't have to adjust the harness
by mlarson75 ,Mar 16 '05
Pros: Nice color and style, easy to clean
Cons: Harness does not adjust as needed and is not safe.
I chose this carseat because my sister has it and recommended it. I only used it once my son was facing forward, as there wasn't enough room in my car to face it backwards, unless the person in front wanted to eat their knees.
The seat itself is well constructed, but I had issues with the harness. I had to replace the harness because it had become so twisted, the buckles wouldn't move. And then I couldn't adjust the harness to tighten when changing from winter coats to spring or fall coats. The harness just won't tighten like I need it to.
Unless there are dramatic changes in the harness, I won't use this seat for any future children. It's not safe.
