CRAFTSMAN 24 volt weedwacker / edger

by lovehifi , Apr 29 '06
Pros: Works as a trimmer and edger. Powerful 24 volt battery system.
Cons: Not reliable. 2 of them broke down. Both of them returned.
I have had very bad luck with this unit. I liked the unit because of its performance, but, its reliability was a big problem. I purchased this cordless trimmer/edger because I was tired of stringing together several electrical cords when using a ...

A trimmer that generally minimizes aggravation.

by ictalurus , Jun 13 '03
Pros: Bump feed works well. Comparatively quiet. No emissions or fumes. Decent ergonomics.
Cons: Handle could be more adjustable. Charger requires wall mounting. Short warranty.
I've never had any luck with gas trimmers (however, I'm not mechanically inclined), and corded electric trimmers are impractical for large yards, so I decided to look into cordless trimmers to keep my 1 acre lawn manicured. Based on the reviews of ...

Electric Cordless with almost gas powered performance.

by cjbdude , Jul 22 '03
Pros: Excellent power, easy to use, no gas, no cords.
Cons: At 11 pounds, it's a little heavy
I've had a Featherlite Gas powered weed eater for 8 years and decided I didn't want to deal with the fumes any more. I was willing to trade some power for fresh air in my garage. In my quest for an electric cordless weed eater, I tried a Black and ...

Replaced mine after 11 Months

by simon_mn , Jun 01 '07
Pros: Works as good as a gas without the noise.
Cons: Leaks battery acid
I wanted a cordless weedwacker as my yard is too big and I was chaining extension cords with my electric one. I didn't want a noisy, polluting 2-stoke gas model so I opted for the Cratftsman unit. It works well, holds a decent charge -- more than ...

Poor Wiring - Good Product

by jwinanspa , Aug 28 '06
Pros: Very portable.
Cons: Very heavy, poor wiring at the motor. See above.
For those of you looking for a fix for a sudden stop in operation, I think I have found the cause. When I took the cover off of the motor, the positive lead popped off. The wire was so poorly connected to the motor that it was not getting enough power. ...

Powerful. Bad battery. Buy warranty.
by varoomba ,May 04 '07
Pros: Powerful Electric Quiet Reasonably priced strong line
Cons: battery not easily replaced battery stops holding a charge quickly heavy
This is in many ways a good line trimmer. If you purchase it, I would definitely purchase as long of an extended warranty contract you can buy (and make sure that warranty carries future units that might replace your initial unit).

This is a fairly powerful line trimmer that works great. I took off the rear line shield to make it easier to trim and it seems to work even better.

Two big problems that are causing me to try something else:

1) The unit does break easily (mainly the line spool dispenser) and my warranty has expired.

2) The battery only lasts a season and they are expensive to buy - you're almost just as well off to simply buy a whole new unit.

Also, the battery is not easily replaced nor is it possible (that I know of) to be charging a second battery for use once you get through the first half of your yard.

I tried a Worx line trimmer. Love easily switchable batteries and adjustable trim head and weight - but it doesn't have the same power...

It's garbage. DO NOT BUY THIS
by boandjill ,Aug 31 '05
Pros: It's cordless
Cons: It's worthless.
I bought a new unit about 2 years ago and have come to realize that it's very poorly designed and is constructed with cheap materials. #1 The line cutting blade keeps breaking which causes it to feed line like crazy. #2 The line feeder (the part you bump on the ground) keeps breaking, so that you have to take apart the line feeder housing to manually advance the line. I have a 1/3 acre lot and the battery/s do not last long enough to trim the entire yard.

I expected more from Craftsman.

problems discovered
by ophelia2 ,Jul 05 '08
Pros: excellent machine
Cons: connections vibrate loose
Several people commented that the weed wacker didn't hold a charge. I just spent a week or more finding a new battery pack only to discover that the problem was a loose connection. So before you toss it or replace it, check the connection and see if YOURS has a connection that has vibrated loose.....
