Welcome to the Grind!

by shopaholic_man Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 100, Nov 12 '06
Pros: It does grind coffee beans so you can enjoy a fresh cup of delicious coffee.
Cons: It is a bit of a grind to use this grinder.
Most of us start our day with coffee, but how good is that coffee? I don't know about you, but I want my day to start the best way possible. A great cup of coffee and a good breakfast goes a long way to that end. Normally, I will just put some Maxwell ...

Simple concept; exceptional grinder

by fortunecat500 , Apr 07 '06
Pros: Removable grinding bowl with airtight lid, powerful motor, fancy-lookin'
Cons: It's a tad pricey, but worth it.
In my opinion, there's nothing like the taste of good coffee freshly ground and brewed in a French Press (i.e., a Bodum-style plunger coffee maker). So I've been grinding my own coffee in a cheap, plastic electric grinder for years... the kind you can ...

Excellent Coffee Grinder for all but very fine and Espresso

by rpoythress , Mar 13 '07
Pros: Attractive, quiet and easy to use.
Cons: When using the storage lid, the top will not fit down over the bowl.
I received my Grind Central as a Birthday gift 7 months ago. I have used it almost every day since receiving it and am pleased with the ease of use and ease of cleaning. It is attractive stainless steel with plastic top and is quieter than other ...

stick to reliable coffee grinder brands

by smythe5 , Mar 20 '07
Pros: It looks cool, if that matters
Cons: Does NOT grind coffee consistently and finely. Removeable cup does more harm than good.
My Dad had a Krups coffee grinder for 15 years, then he replaced it with a Braun, which has been going strong for close to 10 years. My Mom still uses it every day, it still blends uniformly fine grounds every time, albeit loudly. I stupidly bought this ...

Cuisinart? Never Again!

by grammalo , Jul 14 '09
Pros: Looks cool.
Cons: Grinder cup breaks easily. Messy cleanup. Short life. Expensive considering poor quality.
I have had three of these poorly-made, infuriating grinders in less than three years -- two of which I paid for myself. After a short time, the grinder cup becomes difficult to lock in place and impossible to remove. For the last two weeks, I have had to ...

Not exactly a steal

by ellie31773 , Oct 17 '07
Pros: Sleek design Easy to clean
Cons: Rusty components Uneven grind Long grinding time
My new husband and I put this Cuisinart coffee grinder on our wedding registry. Overall, it does its job, but there are a few things about it that bug me. First, as another reviewer mentioned, the metal screws in the cover are already rusty. That fact ...

Bad Grinder - Do Not Buy
by rfriedman_osu ,Aug 30 '07
Pros: Removable Bowl; Cuisinart service
Cons: Metal parts in cover rusted after 1 washing; Poor coffee grind containment to bowl.
I was attracted to this product because of its removable bowl for easier cleaning. However, the unit is still difficult to keep clean. Due to a poorly designed cover, coffee grinds leak outside of the container during grinding operation - making it necessary to clean the base unit and cover. In addition, the grinding operation is slow.

I also thought the removable bowl with cover would be convenient for grinding and storing. The small bowl size and the fixed blades in the bottom of the bowl made it difficult to scoop out ground coffee. I prefer to measure what I needed, grind, and then dump the entire bowl contents into the coffee maker.

The grinder cover is supposed to be washable, however, metal screws and a plunger spring in cover rusted after a single washing! Cuisinart should have used stainless steel for these small parts, but instead decided to cut cost.

This is simply a poorly designed product. Cuisinart sent me a replacement cover which had the same problems, therefore my experience is not attributable to a random product defect.

Cuisinart Grinder DCG-12BC
by momnwife ,Aug 24 '05
Pros: Fresh ground coffee everyday.
Cons: It's an extra step to make in brewing great coffee
This is one of my favorite appliances in my kitchen. It's a great addition for any avid coffee drinker. There is definitely a difference between already ground coffee and grinding the beans yourself. I use mine everyday and the blades have not even begun to get dull. The cup detaches from the machine itself, so you don't have to lift the whole thing to fill the coffee machine. There is also an extra cover to use if you grind to much you can store the excess in the fridge.

If anyone is shopping for a grinder as a gift or for themselves I would highly recommend this one.

Great and Quiet Grinder!
by pedspt ,Dec 02 '07
Pros: Quiet operation, sleek and stylish look, grinds consistently
Cons: I suppose it cs a little pricey compared to other grinders...but it is worth it!
This is great coffee grinder. I don't know what the other reviewer was talking about....I think the removable cup feature is great! It is hassle-free to remove. And I think the key to getting consistently fine grinds is to "pulse" the button, not hold it down for a minute at a time (I watch a lot of Food Network, and I have never seen them use a grinder without pulsing it.) It is also relatively quiet compared to other grinders. My brother has a Krups, and he loves my grinder, as he feels like his is deafening. We got ours as a wedding gift in 2003, and it is still going strong for everyday coffee drinkers! I would recommend to anyone. (Hint: if you have them in your area, go to either "Linens and Things" or "Bed, Bath, and Beyond" and use the 20% off coupon you get in the paper. Or, purchase from website and use 20% off coupon code!)

Pros: Quiet
Cons: No Longer Runs
Unfortunately motor burnt out within two months of purchasing this unit. Based on other reviews seems to be a common trend. Avoid!

$8 Wal-Mart unit lasted 4 years!

Cuisinart coffee grinder
by olivia456 ,Jan 31 '09
Pros: Convenient, easy to use, ground beans satisfactorily.
Cons: Stopped working.  Gentleman at Cuisinart customer service was rude. Had to pay shipping.
I received the Cuisinart DCG=12C coffee grinder as a Christmas gift.  I have been using a blender and was delighted to have a compact grinder that was easily used.  However, after several weeks of use it just stopped working.
Since it was a gift, I did not have a receipt to return it to the place it was purchased.  I called the company and the man said it could be returned, but I would have to pay shipping both ways.  Costs would be $10 each way which is about the cost of purchasing a new one.

We love it
by mattn73 ,Nov 17 '09
Pros: Simple to operate and durable.
Cons: Loud.  You will not grind beans and allow anyone to sleep.
Right when I finished grinding some beans this morning I said to my wife, "Do you remember how much research we did before we bought this grinder?  How long have we owned it?  It's a great little grinder.  I'm gonna jump on-line right now and write a review."

We've owned it for over four years and it's still going strong.  We've never even cleaned it, just knocked the dust from the grounds into the sink after each use.

It only has one speed and one button.  The longer you hold the button, the finer the coffee is ground.  Pretty simple.  The thing is durable too.  It's made of solid metal and is a quality product.

Exceptionally Poor Product
by mspursenality ,Dec 26 '07
Pros: Removable cup for loading ground coffee into the pot.
Cons: Inadequate motor.
My experience with this product has been a series of profound disappointments. Either the design of the product or the supplier of the installed motor is at fault. I am about to return the grinder to the seller for a replacement for the third time. Each one has failed soon after I obtained it with the motor burning out. I religiously use the MAX fill line in the cup for the quantity of beans I grind. The last replacement I got failed after less than 10 grinds.

Short lived ...
by jghat ,Jul 24 '05
Pros: Ease of cleaning and appearance
Cons: Motor must be too small Reliability
I received this item as a gift. It looked to be the best blade grinder ever at first.

It has a stainless steel cup which holds enough coffee for about 18 cups. You can take it all apart to clean and store. Great. Easy wipe stainless like material on the outside and the cup & plastic cover are dishwasher safe. What more could you ask??

In about 2 weeks of use it started taking longer and longer to grind the beans. Soon during the time I've had it there was an electrical burning odor emitting from it.

The motor is going out and this thus it is now inoperable.

I called for a warranty replacement. Going back to the discount store variety .. those seem to last much longer

Save Your Money, Buy A Different Grinder
by holedigger ,Aug 31 '08
Pros: Hmmm...easy cleanup, lacks the shrill earsplitting scream of other home grinders...that's about it.
Cons: Overpriced, inconsistent grind, useless for fine grinding, burning smell.

Cuisinart? It must be good. That's why it's $40. Right?

Silly me. I fell for it!

Stay away from this grinder unless you really desire a cup of very coarsely smashed beans.

Although it claims to be able to deliver finer grinds with more time, that never really happens to a satisfying degree. It produces a very coarse grind almost instantly but isn't really capable of anything else. Coffee goes from a chunky grind to a mostly chunky grind with a few finer particles which then becomes caked on the sides of the grinding cup. Repeated cycles of tapping, scraping and regrinding take place. The end result after a few minutes is a mixture of about 10% powdered coffee, 10% fine grind, 50% medium grind, and 30% which looks as though it were put in a bag and hit with a hammer.

There are a few less glaring issues also.
Stray grounds migrate from the grinding cup and fall down onto the body of the grinder and counter.
After a few seconds of use the smell of freshly ground coffee is slowly obscured by a warm electric smell. Hmmm, is that a good sign?

Guess I should have checked epinions before buying.
