Electric knives are an essential in the kitchen. Oddly, when recently shopping for one, I had an unusually difficult time finding one by a reputable manufacturer. A visit to Kitchen Kapers yielded a model by Selectives, a brand I know little about as ...
About six months ago I received the Cuisinart Electric Knife CEK 40 as a gift from a very dear friend. She knew that my older much used electric knife had just given up. It would no longer had the strength to cut.
Pros: Great design, attractive storage block Cons: A little noisy, aren't they all?
I'm no expert in electric knives. But I do remember my mother using one at Thanksgiving when I was a kid. It was that "70s green color" and it had a blade that moved back and forth. I recall the sound of a chainsaw whenever she would turn it on to ...
Pros: Does the job. Cons: No protective pouch or case. Awkward blade storage clamp.
The price was right at Sam's club so based on good past experiences with Cuisinart appliances we bought it even though our older electric knife worked fine. This knife is designed with a very reasonable sized motor housing. It is comfortable to hold ...
Pros: Ergonomic design makes it easy to use. Nice butcher-block tray with cord storage. Extra Blades. Cons: None found.
I purchased a Cuisinart CEK-40 electric knife about 9 months ago. My first electric knife had worn out many years before, and I had never bothered to replace it. But my husband bought me a Breadman Ultimate for Christmas two years ago, and we've been ...
Pros: Comfortable to hold, has a lot of power when it works Cons: A bit pricey It should not shut off after slicing only a few slices of meat
I have been happy with my other Cuisinart small appliances so when my old electric knife died, I bought the Cuisinart CEK40. It was a bit pricey at $35.00 plus shipping from an internet site. I used it on Thanksgiving to cut up the turkey. It worked for maybe a minute and quit, numerous attempts to get it going again failed, I finished slicing the bird by hand. I tried it again after dinner and it turned on fine though I didn't slice anything with it. This week I used it on a beef roast, and the same thing happened, after about a minute it quit working. I sent it back today for a replacement.
Cuisinart Electric Knife is Terrible by shastahazel ,Dec 04 '04
Pros: I liked it at first because it was an easier way to cut meat. Cons: Smelled bad, some meat went through middle of blades, finally blades kept falling off.
After my former electric knife died, I bought the Cuisinart Electronic Knife, even though it was expensive, because I wanted a good knife and one that would last. I used this knife mostly on holidays. I had this knife for about 2-3 years. I always worried when I used it because it smelled weird and I was afraid it was going to blow up or catch on fire. Eventually, some of the meat I was cutting would go between the blades. This Thanksgiving, I used the knife again and the blades would not stay in the handle and kept falling off when I was cutting the turkey. I then threw it in the garbage. I had enough of it!!
Don't try it on frozen bread or some such by n4sx ,Jul 15 '07
Pros: Comfortable, cuts quickly and evenly, sharp blades Cons: toque a bit low, cord is inconvenient to store in included stand, no circuit breaker
It stripped its gears trying to cut frozen bread. First the blade got bound in the bread, then the motor stalled, then the gears stripped. Knife is now trash. It should have had an internal circuit breaker to stop the motor before it trashed itself.
Pros: Did a great job while it worked Cons: Broke after a dozen uses or so.
I receive this knife as a gift. It worked well for a while, but stopped working after the first thanksgiving turkey. It was not abused in any way. I would suggest trying another brand. I have have good luck with the cuisinart brand in the past, but I would strongly suggest avoiding this particular product.
Don't Buy It!! IT WON'T LAST! by wojo64 ,Nov 05 '06
Pros: Only works to cut two or three nice and thin slices. Cons: Smells like it's going to catch fire after 2 or 3 slices. Finally quit entirely!
I received this unit as a gift. At first I thought it was great, but if you plan to use this knife to slice a whole turkey or a whole ham, forget it because it will not last. When I first used it to cut a few slices, it worked fine, but anything beyond three or four slices and the unit begins to smell as if it's going to catch fire. Finally it just quit. My husband took it apart and tried to fix it and he was able to get it to work occasionally, but it's not reliable. I definitely would not recommend you purchasing this item. I'm now searching to find another one that will last.
