I love the way it works and looks!
by quickfords ,Mar 17 '06
Pros: Great tasting coffee, sleek looks, keeps coffee warm for hours! Cons: pours slowly from caraffe, only does 10 cups!
Ok, I have had mine for over a year now. The first one (a white 12 cup model) started to make a grinding noice- NO not the coffee, but a mechanical malfunction. Then the smoke started. One call to customer service and they shipped me out a new one with a call-tag for the old one.
Anyway, this one has been great. I love being able to set the time and have it grind and brew (hence the name) right before I am out of bed. It is very easy to use and delivers fresh, great tasting coffee. I do like the caraffe, but wish it was a 12 cup SS version. The lids does drip when pouring, but I take it off so I can pour quicker anyway. A minor issue I think! As far as noise and dripping, it is a bit noisey- but so is my bean grinder I use at work. If it drips I have a fix for it- a paper towel. Not expensive and available in bulk (a roll).

Broke after 2 months of use
by wazfamily5 ,Mar 10 '07
Pros: Stainless steel look is nice Cons: Won't complete more that 2 cups of coffee at a time!
This is the second Grind and Brew I've owned in the last 1 1/2 years. The first one broke after a year of use. I received another as a gift and this second one broke only after 2 months (same problem with both).
One day I found that all the coffee wasn't made. I checked and water was still sitting in the machine. Only makes 2 cups at a time now. I have to turn it on up to 4 additional times to complete a 10 cup pot of coffee.
I called customer service and the only thing they will do is repair or replace the coffee maker. As stated in the warranty I would be responsible for the shipping costs both ways. They do not refund money. I asked if this was a known problem or reported by others and was told "this model has been on the market for a long time." I don't believe that was an answer to my question. I completed my call and called Lowes (where the coffee maker was purchased from). Happy to say that Lowes agreed to take the DEFECTIVE product back and refund us with in-store credit.

I'm a fan of Cuisinart - but not of this coffeemaker!!
by cindylynch ,Jan 10 '05
Pros: Looks nice. Has stainless steel carafe. Cons: Very cumbersome to use. Turns making morning coffee into a chore.
Cuisinart has managed to take a rather simple task - one of making morning coffee - and turning it into an unpleasant and cumbersome task. The water level indicator is next to impossible to read. First of all, it is INSIDE the water unit itself; it is only marked in EVEN increments; and it is next to impossible to tell how much water you have put in it since the inside is dark and poorly marked. Secondly, the filter basket is rather difficult to get to; it is contained inside of another oddly shaped basket that has a lid that must be taken on and off each time the filter is filled up or emptied. And the carafe lid fits on in such a way that the coffee can only be poured out VERY SLOWLY. If you open the lid slightly to increase the flow time then watch out!! The coffee will spill out all over yourself and your countertop.

Only buy on Ebay!
by debmum1 ,Feb 26 '05
Pros: Quick, fresh cup of coffee! Cons: Grinder is LOUD, carafe sometimes leaks!
Overall, this is a great coffee pot, keeps coffee HOT for hours. We have trouble pouring w/o spilling. I guess Cuisinart will sent a new carafe if you ask? The grinder is loud, so you'll be getting our of bed by that, not the smell of fresh brewed coffee!! Otherwise, good coffee machine, but don't pay full price.

Stink rotten design! shame shame on Cusinart.
by robius ,Mar 24 '05
Pros: Looks cool. It ends there Cons: Expensive for what it is designed to do and then can't do it.
I'm not usually one to complain, and I love all my other Cuisinart appliances, but this is the most poorly designed grinding coffee maker I've ever seen. My wife and I, both longtime coffee addicts, chose this model to replace a well loved and heavely used melita model which also ground prior to brewing. It was only after a weeks use that i realized that this machine has far too many parts to clean at 7 in the morning, does not allow for grinder setting adjustment, has a grinder basket that is far too small thereby restricting bean quantity and resulting in watery coffee beyond the 6 cup marker, has inadequate steam ventilation resulting in a coffee ground paste that cloggs up parts and waterways, and overflows when the water is unable to reach the brew basket due to too many grounds in the path. If you love your coffee, love your sanity, and love your spouse, steer clear of this monumental flub. I will be tossing this one in to the round file in the front yard and re-purchasing the Melita.

Bad Coffee Taste
by khill0302 ,Oct 01 '04
Pros: Attractive; built-in grinder appealing; Cuisinart name Cons: Bad tasting coffee; high maintenance (might be worth it if coffee was good)
Followed manufacturers instructions to get started. We experienced a bad coffee taste from the first brewed batch. Over a period of time, we washed all parts with hot soapy water, ran vinegar cycles, ran lemon juice cycles, and to no avail, the coffee still tasted badly. Then we tried changing the filter...coffee still bad. Then we tried bottled water vs tap water...coffee still bad. We tried skipping the grinding of beans and using ground coffee with no improvement. We changed coffee to a dark French Roast style with no improvement. Over the period of a couple of months, we have poured a lot of coffee, creamer, and sugar down the drain.
Out of frustration and thinking we had a defective coffee maker, we exchanged it for another one from the merchant. We followed all the "start up" instructions and to our surprise and disappointment, there was no change in the coffee flavor...still bad! We pulled out our 4-cup cheap (under $20) coffee maker and stopped using this supposedly "state of the art" coffee maker...we are very disappointed and frustrated by the time lost each day with this particular product! We regret purchasing this product.

keep shopping for other options

Pros: appearance Cons: cleaning nightmare
dysfunction after only four months.
I have owned this coffee maker for several months and have regretted the purchase from day one. It sounded wonderful - grinding and brewing in one step. However, it is a cleaning nightmare. In addition to the carafe, there are five parts that must be cleaned thoroughly between uses, more than negating the benefit of having a machine that grinds the beans immediately before use. Furthermore, in the last week the brewing cycle stops after sending only two cups of water through the grounds. I typically have to run the machine three or four times to get all the water to pass through. Interestingly, my neighbor happened to buy the same machine within a month of when I did and she is having the same complaint that the machine does not use all the water before ending the brewing process.

Very Poor Design
by audota ,Jul 29 '05
Pros: Looks Cons: Leaks, spills, cleaning, price (for the trouble)
I would strongly recommend against purchasing this product. We have had for over a year now and due to the cleaning requirements we have stopped using the grinder. In addition, the brewer has malfunctioned more times than I can count and the result has been coffee down our countertop, cabinets and onto our kitchen floor.
We have yet to determine why the thing has constant overflow issues. As a result, we no longer use the timer for starting the brewing but rather will initiate when we get up and sit and watch to be sure the coffee does not leak all over the counter and floor. Not sure if it is a problem with the pot (not accepting the coffee), the basket or the drain mechanism on the basket.
Product looks good but the combination of cleaning and malfunctioning makes it impossible to work with for regular coffee drinkers. Pass and would not recommend at all.

Would be great, without the grinder!!!
by livonarock ,Jul 22 '07
Pros: everything, especially the carafe and speed of brewing Cons: always had to dry and clean the grinder
I have used this maker for 4 yrs. I got it for the grinder, but hardly ever used it because it was a pain to keep dry. Loved the coffee, and the carafe. Now I just use a cheap coffee maker and then pour the coffee into the carafe and I'm good to go. I paid over $200 Canadian for the thing. If the grinder was on the outside of the coffee maker, it would have been the best. They have one now, but waaaayyyy to expensive for me.....but I am tempted.
For the last few months, the maker would just stop brewing....for no reason at all.....never did figure this out.

Horrible to clean the pump breaks
by divadkire ,Aug 08 '05
Pros: Worked great when new Cons: Tough to clean
I would much rather have my old black and decker without the bells and whistles. This coffee maker is a beast to clean every day. The grinder bin get moist and if you don't clean it well it will jam up and the ground coffee will build up in the chute and the grinder bin. Then you need to dry it really well.
We have had it for one year and now the water pump has problems. It turns off automatically after brewing about a cup, and we need to turn the maker on 5 times in order to get it to brew 8 cups.

what is wrong with some of you
by coldcoffeesuks ,Mar 26 '05
Pros: every thing from the look to the hot hot coffee Cons: nothing YOU MUST READ THE MANUAL
I just got this machine and the first thing i did was read the MANUAL if you did this you would not have a problem. you can not overfill the water are beans or the grinds if you do IT WILL OVERFLOW this is what the manual says.
The only and i mean only problem i am having is getting the right ratio of water and beans to make a strong cup of coffee, with a little experiment i will find it.
As far as cleaning it goes i dont get it why is it a con so what you have to clean it dont you like your machine clean i mean really does it take to much time to make sure its not dirty COME ON PPL.
My old coffee maker which i had for 6 years did its job but didnt keep the coffee hot. (i like very hot coffee hense the name coldcoffeesuks). This machine is awesome it keep the coffee hot for litteraly 5 hours ( well that when i finished the pot)

Still undecided
by steph0330 ,Sep 22 '06
Pros: Design Cons: no grinder adjustment, water level
I recently bought this coffee maker. I had a Krups drip maker which worked just fine, but truthfully I'm finicky about my coffee -- particularly that it be hot, because I add milk and can't stand it being lukewarm then.
I read good reviews about this Cuisinart and decided to give it a try. After 5 days of use here are my comments:
I agree with the other reviews that it's hard to tell the water level. I'm disappointed that there is not grind adjustment.
I also am disappointed that even with extra scoops of beans the coffee was weak (using Tully's Breakfast Blend). Perhaps a bolder roast will emit a better brew...
The cleaning factor is a bit of a hassle but not terribly so. You can avoid some cleaning if you buy pre-ground and use paper filters.
I also don't find that the thermal carafe keeps the coffee hotter than a warming plate.
So far, I'd recommend to anyone looking for a truly great cup of coffee to pass on this one, buy a drip machine and a separate grinder.

Great machine!
by beachgal505 ,Nov 03 '04
Pros: Quickly brews great coffee, grind and brew feature works perfectly. Cons: A bit pricey, but worth it.
This coffeemaker was a gift last Christmas. The grind and brew feature is excellent and works as advertised. Set the timer at night and wake up to freshly ground and brewed delicious coffee. Although I had purchased an expensive Krups machine, I like the Cuisinart product better. I think it is a good value for the money.

by normamalc ,May 10 '04
Pros: Great tasting coffee..easy set up..comes apart for cleaning. Cons: Noisy...it's my new alarm clock.
Took the machine whom on Friday and have enjoyed it for the weekend. Great coffee. Sure it's make noise when it's grinding, but it's worth the annoyance. Highly recommend this coffee maker.

Don't buy this product
by emma60608 ,Dec 14 '05
Pros: Thermal Carafe, water filter Cons: Coffee tastes bad, a pain to clean, awkward to fill
We always grind our coffee for the freshness value - I bought this product for ease of a grinder within a coffee maker, the thermal carafe and the inbuilt water filter. The fact is though that I am not sure what it does, but even the best coffee comes out tasting pathetic
