Cuisinart Needs a New Designer
by coalpoetry ,Feb 25 '07
Pros: Punctual and promising, but so loud that it can also function as alarm clock. Cons: Not quite honest, high maintenance, and messy, not unlike a bad marriage.
The impetus for this purchase was to eliminate the nightly ground coffee mess from my trusty 20-year-old Krups grinder. Granted, the Cuisinart provides very fresh coffee, but I'm not sure that fresh taste is worth the effort. As the other reviews here attest, it's a messy machine that spews out far more coffee grinds than the little Krups grinder, and they are definitely more far-reaching, including the bottom of one's coffee mug. Also, if you actually fill the reservoir tank to the 10-cup mark, the carafe overflows. The designers at Cuisinart need to download all of these reviews and have a talk with their designers before they produce another iteration. Although, I highly doubt that I will ever purchase another coffeemaker from Cuisinart.

Unless you want a hot water maker...don't bother
by peteraw65 ,Jun 25 '05
Pros: Design
Functionality
Cons: Can't actually make an acceptable cup of coffee
In summary, the machine won't make an acceptable pot of coffee.
I bought it in hopes of an all-in-one machine that would be easy to use and convenient. I think that is what it is ....the problem is it can't make a good cup of coffee.
Regardless of how many beans you put in (even for a 2-3 cup brew), the coffee is watery. I have tried all sorts of variations to improve it, but I think there is an engineering flaw in the the shape/size of the basket or something.
I emailed cuisinart hoping that I was doing something wrong, but never received a reply...nice customer service.
I will be return the unit asap.....
Stay away from this unit unless you like watery coffee, in which case it may be perfect for you.

Love the coffee; machine has short life
by boker ,Jul 16 '09
Pros: Makes great coffee, love the features Cons: Very short life... We've had 4 machines in 4 years.
We thought Cuisinart was a great name and so bought an older version of this machine 4 years ago. It died after a year or 2. The company was great! They asked a few questions and then sent us a BRAND NEW MACHINE. Well, in a little over a year (so now out of warranty), it died again. We were out of luck this time. We had to buy a new one. This one had problems with the carafe - again, they sent a new one (just the carafe). Now, the grinder wont turn off. But, the company was great. They sent a new one. In a year, when this one goes, you can be sure I will not be buying a Cuisinart. Just not worth the trouble.

Bad Design
by rdperry_5 ,Jan 24 '04
Pros: Cuisinart is a great company, it's obvious their designers don't drink coffee. Cons: Why spend $149.00 to get it all in one, but create more work.
Design flaw.
The coffee perks and all the steam comes back into the grinder compartment, leaving a wet mess.

Decent coffee, but too many parts!
by omicron333 ,Sep 26 '06
Pros: Decent coffee, neat design, carafe to keep warm, programmable. Cons: Too many parts to clean -- every time!
I really enjoyed the coffee, but you have to wash all the parts after every brew. The grinder is inside the steam chamber! Such a mess.
I would have to clean each part, and inevitably at least once a month, I'd leave one of the many parts out and get coffee all over the counter.
Great idea, poorly implemented.

Love it but there is one big flaw...
by coffereview ,Jan 28 '06
Pros: Hot, strong coffee- Brewer system is handy Cons: Difficult to gauge the amount of water being poured into the unit
The general coffee maker is sleek, makes a great cup of coffee, allows for fresh ground and therefore fresh tasting coffee every day, and the thermos keeps the coffee hot, not like other ones I've had in the past.
Our only complaint is that the water unit is extremely hard to determine how much water you have put into this unit. It shows numbers inside the unit, but since I am short, I have to tip the coffee maker almost halfway on its side to view where the water has lined up to. Unless you look directly inside, from the top and under direct light, you cannot see where the water has risen to. I don't always make a full pot in the morning, and when I try to put in say 6 cups of water, it's almost impossible to see the water line. I love a strong cup of coffee, and I tend to put more water than I need due to this flaw, which waters down the coffee.Maybe a more visible, clear side unit could replace this.
Other than keeping it clean, and removing the inside grounds unit to dry each day, we love it!

GREAT Coffee!!!
by slick045 ,Sep 14 '06
Pros: Best coffee I've ever made at home. Coffee stays hot. Stylish. Cons: Expensive. Cleaning.
I've only had this coffee maker for a couple weeks, but I've completely fallen in love with it. It makes an unbeatable pot of coffee. Plus the thermal carafe keeps the coffee hot much longer than I expected it could (Hot for a couple hours, and warm for about 6 hrs). This carafe is a big improvement over a glass carafe w/heater because the heater burns the coffee if left on for too long.
Of course, to have great coffee means that you need to use great ingredients, and yes that mean quality water as well.
Cleaning can be a bit of a chore, but one that I am happy to do for the quality of coffee that it makes. The good part is that the parts are all dishwasher safe.
Overall, I highly recommend this coffee maker.

I would return it in an instant. Very poor design....
by larrymck ,Nov 26 '08
Pros: Looks great, sometimes makes a great cup of coffee Cons: Very difficult to clean, inconsistant cup of coffee, to many parts. Not worth it.
I bought one, I thought it looked so sleek, so neat, and cuisinart could not make a bad coffee maker. This is the most difficult coffee maker ever. Cleaning is such a pain, so many pieces, you must clean and dry between brews. Then if you use starbucks french roast beans as I do, about 20 percent of the coffee does not go in the basket because of all the oil. So here is what I do. I use less water, because it does make a weaker then normal cup, so cut the water down. Then after it grinds, open it up, and knock all the coffee that is stuck to the sides down into the basket. Then you will get a good cup of coffee. We now have a very expensive coffee maker we do not use, and went back to my old "Cooks Essentials Grind & Brew" coffee maker. They blew it on this one. To top it off, the store I bought it from discontinued the line, so I cannot return it.

This Machine Stinks
by audota ,Jul 28 '05
Pros: Thermal pot Cons: Cleaning, grinding, overflow
Had the same problem as other reviewers. Tough to clean grinder but it must be done after each use. Steam gets in the grinder and causes it to clog up. Ours has overflowed multiple times and am not sure why. We no longer use the timer for brewing. Coffee ends up on the counter, floor, etc. Poor design and high cost for the problems created. Have had for about 1.5 years.

clean up is so hard!
by lmaass ,Nov 16 '09
Pros: The coffee brewed is delicious and stays hot for a long time. Cons: As above, the clean-up takes so long and it can never be cleaned entirely.
Although the coffee this coffee maker produces is delicious, I don't understand why it can't be made to come apart so I can clean it! Often the grounds get stuck and clogged. We are going to get a different coffeemaker because it this one is too much work and aggravating.

after several years
by bokeelia ,Oct 07 '05
Pros: attractive, consistent(though lacking quality) brewing and grinding Cons: exceptionally poor design
I purchased this unit in anticipation of a freshly ground perfectly brewed cup of coffee every morning. After using this unit for almost two years, I no longer use the grinder, too much trouble to clean and dry after each use, steam creates mud in grinder that drips on machine and you when being removed for cleaning. The pot now has liquid between the liner, not from being immersed. Several times a year, pot fills half-way with coffee, the rest overflows onto the counter and floor. Even without using the grinder, moisture still accumulates in the grinder assembly and upper housing should be dried. Very hard to make full bodied, strong coffee in this unit. Not enough bean capacity, no control over grind. Flow through carafe lid pours slowly, and does not clean up well in that water becomes trapped within its structure with internal flippers and such. You can spend more, but you can't buy a worse machine. A simple no-frills 12 cup coffee maker and a stand-alone Krups grinder will make you happier than this unit.

Donate your money to a worthy cause - don't waste it on this machine.
by randyphx ,Nov 24 '06
Pros: Worked well for several weeks. Cons: Poor quality, broke in one month, zero support and response = terrible experience.
My wife enjoys a coffee a great deal and I was pleased with the idea of a grind option for a fresh bean taste. The machine was a bit maintenance intensive, but for a short while it became the household alarm clock so to speak when the grinder started in the morning.
Then after about 3 to four weeks the grinder stopped working and we woke up to hot water and wet whole beans that weren't ground.
After several attempts to try and repair the unit we had absolutely no response from the manufacturer. Between the cumbersome operation and cleaning and the lack of manufacturer support (which equated to zero warranty) we chucked it in the garbage.
WE WILL NEVER-EVER purchase ANYTHING from this company.

This coffee maker makes me mad everyday!
by julecoffee ,Jan 18 '09
Pros: t h e r e a r e n o n e Cons: t h e r e a r e t o n s
Do not buy this pos. There are so many flaws. The grinder becomes moldy from condensation build up, the lid pops up during brewing, the filter holder sneakily pushes out during brewing, the lights stop working freakishly fast, and so many other annoying flaws. I am so upset I bought this expensive maker...it somehow manages to irritate me EVERYday. It is making a pot right now in the other room. I hear something dripping and beeping so I can promise there is probably an overflow of watery coffee grinds dripping off my counter and down the cabinets onto the floor. I HATE IT!! I will never buy cuisinart again for anything! GRRRRRRRRR. I WANT A REFUND!

Excellent brewing -- probably worth the hassle
by gm3328 ,Dec 07 '05
Pros: Hot pot lasts 4-5 hours if you preheat with hot tap water. Cons: 12 minute brew cycle if you have to clean yesterday's leftover!
If it didn't say Cuisinart and it didn't look good, you wouldn't buy it as a gift for someone. This is for the person who wants to make a production out of each pot of coffee.
Strongest point is the quality of the brew when you've put in the beans the night before and set it automatically start the next morning. Weakest point is cleaning up the mud in the 2 grinder parts *before* sticking it in the dishwasher.
Mine has lasted twice as long (so far) as the $15-$30 units I've had in the past. A good unit if it were priced $69 and a great unit if it were $49. Advertised only at Christmastime, and grossly overpriced for a consumer-grade coffee machine.

Cuisinart does not stand by this product
by micknanh ,Nov 03 '09
Pros: Makes coffee Cons: Leaks, leaks , leaks; noisy
Our coffee maker is under 4 years old and leaks clean water all over the counter. We have the original reciept. Cuisinart customer service reps said if it is within 3 years of purchase, they will replace it. If it over 3, they will give you 20% off a new one. Why on earth would I want 20% off a $150 coffee maker that is ruining my kitchen? No amount of talking to customer service (politely!) would alter this. I discussed with them the HUGE number of negative reviews of this product online. They could not have possibly cared less. Their solution was, buy another one, and wait for it to break. Please don't buy this product.
