Coffee Maker from Hell with a Mind of It's Own.

by christieyachts , Feb 20 '08
Pros: Auto grinder
Cons: Auto grinder, mediocre coffee.
Unfortunately, I married into this coffee maker. It liked him, not me. My husband is a software engineer with an IQ of 175. Do not buy this product unless you fit into that category. It demands a lot of time to clean, dry it, and reassemble and is ...

Very Good Coffeemaker

by rnelson61 , May 19 '06
Pros: convenience; looks; performance
Cons: overpriced
We bought this machine before I read all of the negative reviews on this site. After using it every day for the last three weeks, I can say that I am baffled by these negative reviews. There is either a conspiracy against this coffeemaker or there are ...

The grinder is a pain to use and clean, and the brew function malfunctions.

by baysball50 , Jan 12 '08
Pros: The thermal pot is a nice feature.
Cons: The grinder is a pain to clean, and the brew function quit working right!
We thought it would be a compact way to make a great cup of coffee when we saw the grind and brew feature on this Cuisinart product, but we found out immediately that the grinder was difficult to clean and messy to use. The coffee beans go into the top, ...

Save your money!

by smartscallion , Dec 30 '05
Pros: The coffee was good.
Cons: Everything else
This was the worst coffee maker I've ever owned. The first time I used it I shocked the whole house with the noise from the grinder. I've had grinders all my life and sure they can be noisy. But this was like an air-raid siren! I am unable to use ...

Great Idea, Great Brand, POOR PRODUCT

by g2020 , Jan 10 '06
Pros: Grinder, Stainless Carafe, timer all great ideas
Cons: Flawed design, difficulty cleaning the parts and lack of soundproofing insulation on turbine motor :-(
I bought this machine with confidence because it's made by Cuisinart but alas; I immediately discovered that turning the brewer on without the grinder assembly locks the unit into a beeping tore which required nothing shy of pulling the plug to reset it. ...

Nice at first....

by spenser3005 , May 21 '07
Pros: Great appearance, good coffee, 3yr lifespan
Cons: No service option after warranty, no matter how minute.
This coffemaker was over $200 when I bought it 5yrs ago. After several little stumbling blocks including buying the special water filters in an unnecessary case lot, it worked well and was enjoyable until it just quit the other day. After repeated ...

Style over Substance

by coffeeroaster , Sep 25 '05
Pros: Looks nice.
Cons: Flat filter, coarse grind only, drippy carafe, poorly insulated carafe.
We had an earlier cuisinart coffemaker which was excellent. It used cone filters and made great coffee. When I started roasting my own beans, I wanted a grind and brew machine, but it had to have a thermal caraffe. Guess what? Cuisinart appears to be ...

Excellent Product

by gljwitte , Jan 27 '06
Pros: Great coffee, hot, attractive, great customer service
Cons: A little extra work to clean
I received this coffee maker in December of 2003 as a present. I love it! I'm a coffee addict ! Before this I would purchase the whole beans and grind them separately.Somehow I always managed to make a huge mess on the counter with the grounds before I ...

Great Coffee Maker

by cgarners , Jan 09 '08
Pros: Great fresh ground coffee ready when you wake up
Cons: It does not clean itself...obviously
I've been amazed to read the poor reviews of this coffee maker. I know there is a response section for reviews, but I don't want to respond to each one separately and I'd like to put this where someone will actually see it. The biggest complaint I've ...

Look for something else
by howied53 ,Jul 30 '04
Pros: Coffee tastes great, but I would expect that from any fresh ground coffee.
Cons: Almost impossible to clean properly. You'll be sorry if you purchase.
The coffeemaker worked well for a while, but it is really difficult to clean....really difficult. We have owned it for a year now and it becomes worse as time goes on. The moving mechanism of the basket cannot be accessed to clean it properly, so it doesn't always close all the way. Therefore, it opens and spews coffee and grinds all over the place. Just read the other reviews and you'll find the same issue. It is a very poor design. If you choose to buy anyway, regardless of this review, you too will be frustrated enough eventually to add your review.

an expensive flop
by acromwell ,Feb 09 '04
Pros: Looks good on the counter
Cons: Brews weak, tepid coffee.
Very disappointing and expensive product. Water temperature never gets high enough to brew a decent cup of coffee which makes you use too much coffee to get an acceptable brew. Also the low temperature of 160 degrees is not hot enough to drink, let alone keep hot for hours as the promo suggests. Since it is necessary to preheat the carafe in order not to get ice cold coffee, one has to get up prior to brewing thus negating the program function.
All in all, I wish I had gotten another product.

Have been on the phone for ten days trying to wake up the customer service people. They returned one call in which they agreed that the temp should be 190 degrees and suggest contacting the retailer, who says No Returns after 14 days.

Fact is, so much is left in the grounds that you can extract a fair amount of flavor by pouring hot water over them!

A pretty piece of junk. Back to the Melita pot.

Cuisinart grind and brew - mixed feelings
by gellswor ,Nov 03 '06
Pros: Excellent coffee when it is fresh Keeps coffee better longer then traditional coffee pots
Cons: Cleaning and drying the coffee grinder
I have had it for a year, use it everyday, I like the coffee when it is fresh, but after a couple of hours it is still very warm, but has degraded in quality, (Note: even though the coffee degrades after a couple of hours, it does not degrade nearly to the extent that heated coffee warmers degrade coffee).

The machine grinds the beans very consistently, and even down to 4 cups the initial coffee is very good.

My primary complaint is cleaning and drying the grinder before each use. Moisture during the brew cycle gets into the grinder and gums up the leftover coffee grounds in the grinder. So it must be cleaned with a small brush, but if you want to use it right away, you also have to dry everything. Since I don't want to mess up our dish drying towel with any coffee grounds I missed, I use paper towels. This is VERY tedious to me.

Simply the Worst Coffee Maker That You Could Buy
by buttonboxer ,Jul 10 '04
Pros: Looks good, nice idea.
Cons: Everything. It's really a high-priced piece of junk.
What's wrong with it?

1. It's impossible to pour the coffee. In all of the coffee makers that we've owned, I've never encountered one that splattered and dribbled more. The only way we could pour a cup with out making a huge mess was to hold it over the sink.

2. The coffee basket drawer refuses to stay shut. When brewing either preground or from the grinder, the door pops open. Now our white kitchen cabinets are permanently stained by coffee thanks to this machine.

3. If you can manage to get the drawer shut it won't open so you can remove the basket. We've tried cleaning it and it just gets worse.

4. Finally, Cuisinart customer service. Don't bother trying to get help. After attempting to contact them about these problems they just ignored us.

5. Cuisinart should stick to food processors. They obviously can't make a coffee maker.

Life is too short to drink watery coffee
by mesullivanland ,Nov 04 '03
Pros: Looks great, is very convenient.
Cons: One grinder setting is a major drawback. Coffee is watery, weak.
I really want to like this coffee maker. I love the idea that it grinds the beans and makes coffee while I am lying in bed. It also is very stylish. We previously had an expensive Capresso coffee maker, and this machine was an improvement in many ways over that one.

However, I am really disappointed in the strength of the coffee. I like a stronger cup of coffee. The coffee that this machine makes tastes good, but is way too weak and is just not satisfying. I called Cuisinart to discuss this, and the woman informed me that this is how "most people" like their coffee, and if I didn't like it I should return it.

My impression of Cuisinart is that it is a high end company catering to people who really know and enjoy food and who can afford to have nice equipment. I think that they should make different coffee bean grinder baskets with different sized screens which would maybe allow for a finer grind.

I am pretty sure that I will return this product, even though I like many things about it. Life is too short to drink watery coffee.

too bad the grinder does not do the job
by clevalley ,Feb 06 '04
Pros: attractive design
Cons: terrible weak coffee
Hi again,
This is my second cuisinart grind and brew and although I love the idea of getting up to perfectly brewed coffee, this dream eludes me.
There are two main things needed to get good flavor from high quality coffee beans,

1. hot water, almost boiling
2. Finely ground coffee

This design fails on both counts.
The main problem is that the coffee is too coarsely ground for the full flavor to come through. (coffee addicts will crave coffee after the first pot is gone.)
Sorry Macy's, this one is coming back.

Other points of interest, this design is easier to clean than the original, dreaded "grind and brew" cuisinart.(anyone who has ever owned that machine knows what I am talking about.) But it still has alot of small annoying parts to clean and the coffee does make a mess inside the water tank.
It looks good on the counter, but who cares if you hate the coffee.
Cuisinart should rethink this concept and stop making these until they can get it right.
