check the base..
by sam604 ,Jun 19 '04
Pros: looks nice! no crap can get stuck between buttons Cons: some labeled 350 some 500 Watts..
i tried everywhere to find out how much power this thing has but no details on it. The only way to find out is to look at the base to see how much watts it has. There are 2 motors available. I was disappointed with my last 300watt philips blender.. when the drink got too thick, it won;t blend.
Some of the stores i've been to had the chrome and white ones with 350 WAtts and the white one I have it said 500Watts under the base. Maybe the one I have is the 2003 model as noted with other materials in the box.
This might make a difference? I will try it tonight crushing ice.
I Will try out the food processor attachment that was a bonus with it soon..

Noisy piece of junk
by ar_nyc ,Dec 11 '03
Pros: It turns on Cons: LOUD, doesn't blend well, hard to clean
I chose to purchase a Cuisinart because of its reputation as a quality product - what a mistake! Not only is this blender incredibly LOUD, but it can't even properly blend basic things, like a banana - I threw in a banana with some fruit juice and ran the thing at the ear-shatteringly loud 'liquefy' setting for nearly a minute and still the banana came out in big lumps. Also, very hard to clean - the glass seems to somehow resist allowing itself to be completely cleaned no matter how well I rinse and scrub. And last but not least, it continues to emit a foul electronic smell, which I had hoped would go away eventually...

I like it when it works!
by goldenpeacock ,Oct 03 '07
Pros: sleek, easy to clean Cons: noisy, has trouble with frozen ingredients, may stop working, reluctant customer service
My husband and I got this blender for our wedding. Every morning we used it to make our breakfast smoothies. It does take quite a long time to blend the frozen and liquid ingredients, and you have to learn the order in which to add them in order for them to blend. I became concerned when I on occasion I could smell the motor. Then one day the blender just wouldn't turn on. We called Cuisinart, and they asked if we dropped it! Eventually we paid $10 and sent it back. About a month later we got a new one that hasn't given me any trouble (yet). If this one breaks, I'm done with Cuisinart because today my Cuisinart toaster oven wouldn't turn on (less than 2 years old!). With their prices and reputation one should expect better.

trouble with this cuisinart!
by janeandraka ,Jun 13 '05
Pros: makes a perfect smoothie... Cons: ... for 1 month before you have to buy and install a new part!
this is a great machine but totally unreliable. i would recommend it only for those who use a blender occasionally. the original part that connects the blades to the machine broke after 1 month. since then we have ordered/installed and had broken 5 parts! we make 2 smoothies every day and this item just doesn't hold up

Cuisinart SmartPower Blender
by maxshelby ,Aug 03 '05
Pros: Good at crushing ice, reasonable price, three year warranty, the chrome looks very sharp. Cons: Not the quietest thing in the kitchen but not as loud as my old blender.
I bought this blender a few months ago specifically for making frozen drinks and smoothies and also to replace an old Wal-Mart special that fried. I was a worried at first that the Cuisinart might not perform well because it was not an expensive blender even though it had pretty good reviews, but not to worry. This blender has no problem crushing whole ice cubes and mixing all the ingredients I put into it, even frozen fruit. It does a great job of mixing very thick drinks; I was particularly happy with the way it made a milkshake! If youre looking for a good performer at a reasonable price, look no further that the Cuisinart SmartPower.

Can't get it to blend
by gargo ,Jul 10 '06
Pros: Attractive, easy to use, easy to clean. Cons: Does not blend good at all and does not blend in frozen fruits.
Very nice looking blender and not a cheap one. I have had it about a year and have not been able to make a good breakfast drink with protein powder and frozen fruit or ice cubes. It doesn't blend good and I get chunks of frozen fruit in it which I didn't have with my former blender of a different brand.
I finally decided to just buy a different brand of blender and hope I can mix up the frozen banana, strawberries, etc. with it.

The blade clutch is a plastic piece that breaks.
Have a spare part # SPC-CH handy.
This part is difficult to replace.

Cuisinart Blender is Junk!
by instantmale ,Aug 22 '07
Pros: easy to use looks nice Cons: Cheaply made, loud, will never buy another Cuisinart product again.
I paid 100 bucks for this pile, I hardly ever use this cuisinjunk blender, shortly after the first time using this blender the jar blade was striped, they replaced it for free, now the motor part of the blender is striped and they want to charge. This blender replaced one that I had bought for $10, I had that blender for years with not problem. I gave my old blender away so i could pay to deal with nothing but problems with Cuisinart This thing is crap, DO NOT BUY!

Needs Industrial Ear Protection
by ginnybee ,Mar 04 '06
Pros: Good blender - heavy glass jar with measurements. Crushes ice well. Cons: Deafening food processor. Too small, cheaply made processing jar.
I registered for this as a wedding gift. The brand has a great reputation and I thought that the blender/food processor combo would help us save space in our small kitchen.
The blender works just fine and the glass jar is high quality. The food processor attachment is small and flimsy - one of the locking parts broke off the first time I used it. The food processor is also horribly loud - I have requisitioned my husband's industrial ear muffs for use when making hummus, etc. I'm serious. I also make sure others are out of the kitchen for fear of hearing loss.
I'm in the market for a new food processor.

Very noisy - weak plastic drive sprocket design
by anticom ,Aug 01 '06
Pros: Strong motor; glass pitcher Cons: noisy, mediocre blending for ice drinks, will ultimately break because of cheap plastic drive sprocket.
This blender was bought to make slushy ice drinks. Right out of the box it was unpleasantly noisy. Seemed that this was due to the plastic drive interface between the base and the pitcher. That interface consists of two black plastic pieces with teeth that mesh together. Rattled badly because they did not mesh tightly or smoothly. After about a year, the black plastic piece on the bottom of the pitcher fell off - the plastic threads were stripped and so would not screw onto the stem of the blade piece. From the reviews, this seems to be a common problem with this blender. Until this happened, other than being unpleasantly noisy, the blender worked ok - not great, but ok. The other annoying thing was the lid to the pitcher. Very hard to put on because it is designed to fit so deeply into the pitcher mouth (I guess to make the pitcher watertight -- but the effect is that it is so hard to put the lid on, that I just would put it in part way). I would not buy this blender again. Cuisinart ought to be ashamed to have produced such a bad design.
