Pros: No sharp edges No lids in food Cons: Can't open damaged cans Wears out in a few years
In 1881, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec painted the famous poster advertising the Moulin Rouge which featured Louise Weber, known as the outrageous La Goulue ("The Glutton"), the cabaret dancer who created the French ...

Pros: Comfortable and smart design allows opening of can with no sharp edges anywhere! Cons: Doesn't handle dented cans very well
I am about as far from being a kitchen diva as anyone can imagine. I don't get excited over new kitchen gadgets. I'd rather eat out than fix something myself. The reach of my cooking is crock-pot meals, casseroles, bread from my bread machine, lasagna...

Pros: easy to use, no sharp edges Cons: have found none yet
I do not know why but it seems like every can opener I have I hate or have problems running. But I do like the Culinare Safety can opener. It is easy to use, and really is a lot safer than those other can openers out there today. ...

TV Gadgets
by andyhoder ,Feb 08 '06
Pros: Works well for a while. Cons: Wears out in a year and can't be repaired.
The Culinare Safety-Can Opener works fairly well if the can is not deformed or of unusual size, but the cutting wheel wears out after about a year of normal household use. And as far as I've been able to determine, no one sells just a replacement cutting wheel. In fact, the can opener itself has been discontinued from most of the better-known outlets such as As Seen on TV.
This is often the problem with TV Gadgets. You can't find them at Target or Wal-Mart, and once the promotion stops running on TV, you can't find them at all.
If you have a Culinare Safety-Can Opener, enjoy it while you can (no pun intended), and then put it in the drawer with your 8-track audio tapes.

Culinare Safety Can Opener
by edgy01 ,Apr 05 '05
Pros: Safety. That's all that needs to be said. Cons: The cam used will wear over time. It will only last about 10 years.
If you're still operating in your kitchen as if it's still the 19th Century (which isn't all that bad!) you should seriously consider this unique manual safety can opener. Other manufacturers claim their openers are 'safety can openers" but this one truly is safe. It cuts the lid along the seam and when done neither the lid nor the can have sharp edges to cut your fingers,--or those of little helpers in the kitchen. This is an especially handy design as well for the fact that the lid won't drop down into the now open cap,--useful when dealing with soups and other liquids. First rate design!

Safety-Can Opener
by linkay6 ,Apr 17 '06
Pros: The edge is not sharp on the can which is opened with this device. Cons: Opener doesn't hold up - knob cracked within a year - cannot be repaired.
This seemed like a good idea when I bought it - but there were more times when I COULDN'T use it than I COULD.

Not so great, not so safe.
by tktrm ,Feb 05 '09
Pros: It opens cans. Cons: Short life, leaves a sharp edge on most cans, though not the lid.
We have been very disappointed with our Culinare SafetyCan. While it does open cans effectively, it doesn't last for very long. Likewise, while it does not leave sharp edges on lids (a huge selling point), it does leave sharp edges on most cans! I have very, very small hands, and I once cut my hand between the thumb and index finger while draining a can of tuna. I have come close to doing so on several other occasions. Likewise, the lid doesn't fit in the can, so draining is more difficult and less efficient to begin with.
It's not very old, but has recently begun to drop its grip on cans and fail to open them. The cutting wheel itself doesn't even appear to spin, which means that all the wear has occured on one point.
I would not purchase this product again.

Safe and easy to use but has very short life!
by goldshield ,Oct 28 '08
Pros: Safe and easy to use. Cons: Very short working life. Over-priced.
Using the second opener since last Christmas. Good looking, safe and easy to use. Probably the safest can opener you can buy.
This is however a gadget with a short life span which is a great disappointment especially when considering the price you pay for it. Both of my openers started to lose their grip within two or three months of regular use. The cut is incomplete andyou will then need to go round and round several times before you are able to detach the lid.
A great gadget which is rather over-priced and in need of further improvement and refinement.

Great idea, no repairs available
by haljan ,Jun 02 '08
Pros: Great idea, worked great until knob cracked Cons: Poor design with knob, should have metal fitting inside knob.
The safety can opener works great until the knob cracks. I have purchased many of these as gifts over the years.
