CURVES RIPPED ME OFF

by ksrivera , Jul 30 '09
Pros: The work out is great.
Cons: The owners are unprofessional and lacking respect for their members.
The owner of Curves in Buena Park, CA took money from my account without my knowledge and then refused to speak to be about it.  She was rude and hung up the phone on me.  I contacted Curves International and they asked her to return the money ...

Curves......Some things I have experienced and noticed

by bunni1412 , Aug 19 '09
Pros: it does give initial body strength and toning
Cons: If the room is full........you will need to wait your turn......if you have time.
They tell me is is a fittness and health club but they do not discourage customers from refraining wearing perfume for those who have allergies.  The room is small and they have fans on the floor which only blows around the offending ...

Management was very supportive
Cons: Can get boring

I joined Curves at the recommendation of a friend who had seen great results; I checked it out as I had seen it in my neighborhood but wondered what it was all about.  I was looking for toning, firming, increased energy but not weight loss ...

Curves is AMAZING

by misspollen , Nov 19 '08
Pros: * No guess work in what exercises to do and how long to do them
Cons: * If you are an intense athlete then you're better off at Gold's.
Before Curves I had no energy at all, I didn't work out, my metabolism was horrible, and I just kept eating. Curves is making a huge difference in my life. The workouts are so quick that before you know it, you are done! I love how the equipment ...

Worked great for me.

by rmevans1 , May 15 '09
Pros: Great for people that are self-motivated to work their hardest at every machine.
Cons: I can see how it would be easy to slack off and see no results.
I worked out at Curves for a year.  Yes, I was out of shape and overweight (5'0, 145 lb) when I started.  I had worked out at gyms in the past with great results, but always ended up being there for a couple hours to get in everything I ...

Pros: fun workout, supportive environment, actual RESULTS!
Cons: price, limited hours, might not offer much to those who are already very athletic

A great place to exercise!
by rachel6476 ,Jan 07 '04
Pros: Quick- only 30 minutes, many franchises all over.
Cons: Hours of operation are inconsistent and only morning weekend hours.
Curves is a great place to work out if you don't have time for a complicated gym routine and want to get into shape.

Personally, I played sports all throughout my life and still play softball to this day at the ripe age of 27. I am not your typical couch potato but even Curves is great for me. It works every muscle and you don't have a personal trainer breathing down your throat telling you to do this many reps, etc etc.

Many people complain that the workout isn't enough. Well I have found that these people don't push themselves on the machines. If you push yourself to do more reps within the 30 second time frame, you'll get results. Just sitting there casually pushing on the machines won't get you anywhere.

I constantly push myself and as a result, I have beautifully sculpted bicep and tricep muscles. Curves WILL put on muscle mass so don't dispair if you gain at first. Muscle does weigh more than fat.

Just like any exercise program, you have to put in effort to get results. Curves DOES work, but you have to make it happen.

Improved Health
by linmass0623 ,Aug 04 '04
Pros: Improved blood pressure and I'm doing something to improve my health
Cons: Location is too dusty. Needs a good scrubbing.
I'm 50, have a sit down job for 8 - 10 hours a day and I was up to 172 lbs on my 5'8" frame. I was growing out of my size 12's and was struggling with high blood pressure. After trying several blood pressure pills that made me feel lousy, my Dr suggested 2 things 1) stop eating: bread, pasta, potatoes and rice 6 days a week and eat whatever 1 of those you wish 1 day a week (I never have eaten sweets), and go to Curves. This was in February. Its been slow going but I've lost 20 pounds and feel much better. My blood pressure is down and my clothes now fit much better.

The only complaint I have is the dust. At the location I go to I really don't believe they keep it very clean. My intention is to talk to the owner because I'm highly allergic to dust and its creating a heath problem I didn't count on getting from a health club. We will see if my talk corrects the problem or she is offended and ignores my complaint.

Curves Community Fabulous Women
by heminator ,Jul 22 '04
Pros: Inexpensive, caring staff, supportive members, no men, get healthy and fit safely.
Cons: Curves doesn't have tanning beds to relax in after a workout ;-)
Want to learn more about what Curves members actually have to say about Curves for Women and their own experiences? Check out my favorite place to hang out online when I'm not at my Curves Club. The http://groups.msn.com/curvescommunity/

I've been a member of curves for over two years and I absolutely love it! The thing about Curves, beyond what other reviewers have written, is the realness of the women members themselves.

Most aren't there to try to attain the perfect body. Rather, they are there, bettering their health, getting fit and enjoying a community type atmosphere that supports their efforts and allows them to be just who they are without having to worry about their appearance as much as they would in a typical gym.

Disappointed Middle-Ager
by dhastings4256 ,May 26 '04
Pros: Fun, supportive, I liked most of the music
Cons: Not enough of a workout if you've already lost your water weight
At 48, and after having done Weight Watchers with very limited success, I finally agreed with my doctor to add in exercise. I joined Curves with such high hopes. The first visit they measure everything! A month later, they measure it all again. Most of my friends had lost between 7 to 10 inches in their first month. I had lost one pound, and 1/2 inch in my boobs - that was it! Disappointed? God, yes. I was convinced to stick with it, that building muscle is good for my bone density, etc. At the end of month 2, I still was only down one pound, but now the boobs were down 3/4 of an inch, and my ARMS were down 1/2 inch. I will give it one more month, but that's it. My doctor echoed what I've heard a number of women say: Curves is wonderful for those who've never worked out, for those dramatically over-weight (which I'm not), and for older women. I would recommend it only to anyone in these three categories.

"I can do this!"
by heeter_lyn ,Mar 18 '04
Pros: Quick, structured, motivating, effective
Cons: none that I can think of
Curves is no frills, but it works! I've always hated going to the gym - lugging heavy weights here and there.. turning red and sweaty while surrounded by body builders and perky young women.

I'm 42 years old and I recently joined Curves. The cost is $40 per month. The routine is simple and the music makes it fun. I like the fact that each exercise is only 30 seconds long. One hydraulic machine for 30 seconds and one springboard for cardio for another 30 seconds.

After just 8 visits I can feel my muscles starting to firm up. I haven't weighed myself yet but my energy level is increasing all the time.

I would recommend the Curves program to any woman who is fat and 40 but has a sincere desire to look better!

This is FINALLY the solution I've been looking for!
