Pros: Easy to use. Compact. Amazingly Cheap. Unlockable mutli-region capabilities. Decent sound and picture. Cons: Not for home-entertainment centre enthusiasts. A bit flimsy. Tiny remote.
Several years ago, when I purchased my first DVD player, I was firmly of the school of thought that it made sense to spend that extra amount of money to ensure a quality item. Something full featured, with decent parts and built to last. I wanted a ...
Pros: Durability, Portable, Design, Price, and Features Cons: Absolutely nothing
I have recently purchased the Durabrand DVD-1002 and I am very pleased with ever aspect of this player. I have previously bought an expensive Sony Dvd Player that cost $80.00 and didn't last me but a few months. I cannot tell anyone enough about how many ...
Pros: Simple, compact, inexpensive Cons: Does not play discs that have scratches
I wasn't planning on buying yet another dvd player for our living room. With tv's throughout the house and Comcast hookup through almost all of them, replacing yet another dvd player that has been overused and torn up per my kids was one last thing that ...
Pros: Extremely inexpensive, loaded with options, easy to install/use, durable, good quality sound/picture. Cons: Top-loader, 2-channel only, no lid lock.
Again, as noted in my other Durabrand reviews, I've mentioned that I was not really sold on this brand and was quite skeptical. Skeptical that is, until I purchased a Car CD Player, and it was very impressive! With several key points in mind, this DVD ...
Pros: Nothing. Its a safety hazard. I would rather spend more than put myself in danger. Cons: Dangerous, possible fire hazard.
This model performed OK...well, for a while. Never perfect. It would decide that we wanted subtitles on its own whim, and it would decide which language we wanted to read. It was tedious, but more funny than anything. Someone had to hold the ...
Pros: Compact, easy to removed and reassemble, affordable. Cons: Remote may stop working, DVD player may stop working properly, defective.
My husband bought two Durabrand DVD players from a local retailer. Within a month of using one of them the remote stopped working even after replacing the batteries. So we simply used the remote from the other to control both players when necessary. Not ...
We purchased the product at the local mega-retailer. It was the low cost option on DVD players. We thought it would be perfect for the kids room or master bedroom. The product had value as a limited second DVD player. The remote and picture were ...
Pros: Very inexpensive. Small. Easy to fit into a small space. Cons: No regular fast forward. Can only jump scenes. TV remote interfered with function.
My husband and I have a toddler son, so instead of going out to the movies, we watch a lot of DVDs at home. Because I quite my job to stay at home with our son, money is an issue, so when our old DVD player broke down, we wanted a replacement but needed ...

Durabrand DVD-1002 Emits Noise by dmessing ,Apr 29 '07
Pros: Great video, great audio. Cons: Remote sluggish and noise from unit Off or On on AM radio.
I used the Durabrand DVD-1002 since Feb 3, 2007, really like the picture, using the component video outputs. First funky thing was the remote control would not always respond, even with a few inches of sensor. Seemed to be some microprocessor conflict, so it acted. The big issue was a loud buzzing noise on an AM radio I noticed with the unit plugged in, OFF or ON. I exchanged it for another Durabrand DVD1002 at the local Walmart, same thing with the second new unit. The noise went away when the leads were disconnected from the unit. I switched it out with a Magnavox DVD player/recorder purchased from Walmart, not more AM radio noise. I am wondering if the Durabrand has meet the noise emission standards from the FCC
I woke up at 5 am this morning to my house smelling like an electrical fire. I noticed this DVD player was on, so I touched the top of it and burnt my hand. I unplugged it and went back to bed. I looked at it when I got home from work and the bottom, under the power button, was MELTED with an area about the size of a quarter and there was brown soot in the air vents. My 11 yr old son has one at his dad's house and I called them right away and told them to get rid of it. Something needs to be done. How do you get these dangerous products out of the store! I hope no one gets seriously injured by these things.
Pros: cheap price. easy to use. can be "unlocked" Cons: ugly remote
I have a panasonic dvd player that's like 6 years old. It still works great but it won't play some of the newer dvd's. I picked up this player for 28 bucks from Walmart and it played those dvd's with no problems. It's definitely smaller than my panasonic.
the remote is a bit ugly but I can't complain for the price. I've this unit for about 6 months now and it's still working...
I did a little investigative work and found some great "unlocks" for this unit...
durabrand dvd-1002 dvd player crapped out by grffn_dvd ,Apr 23 '07
Pros: Cheap, easy to use, unique appearance. Good picture.
The image and audio quality was good. Cons: It died as a unit less than 60 days after purchase.
I bought this unit because of its unique appearance and the fact it was cheap. I love cheap electronics that works great or at least adequately for years. I get a kick out of hearing
people brag about their name brand electronics and how much they paid for (a lot) it, and don't really have anything much more than what I have at 2 or three times the price (or more).
But alas my Durabrand has crapped out at less then 60 days.
The disc only turns slowly and it says "No Disc". Now I need to see if Walmart will take it back with no receipt. Please note: until it crapped out it worked well.
Player Woke us up at 4:00 AM by warbler79 ,Mar 12 '08
Pros: Price. I thought when I bought it anyway. Cons: Quite possibly a fire hazzard.
My wife and I were awakened at 4:00 AM yesterday morning by what sounded like a 22 Caliber gun being fired in our bedroom, twice. It seems that our Durabrand DVD-1002 player blew 2 transistors/capacitors on the circuit board. The player had always made a somewhat high pitched noise when either on or off but, it played fine, that is until it blew up. I won't be getting another one even if Walmart drops their price below $25.00. Not the alarm that I was hoping to wake up too. I will be sending pictures to the manufacturer of the open player showing the damage and maybe I'll mail them my shorts with the results of the shock.
Pros: PAL/NTSC compatible, universal 110-240V AC adapter, Compact, RegionFree (after entering the unlockcode), plays movies instantelly Cons: No Display, doesn't plays DiVx and mpeg-4 movies
I bought this really great DVD player at Wal-Mart for less then $30 and I'm very happy with it. It's very small, you can take it with you very easily, plays almost any CD/DVD, (except DiVx and mpg4 movies.) and plays instantly, compared with my 1 year old Sony DVD Player where I have to wait 4, 5 seconds to begin the movie, so for this price is really GREAT DVD player, it plays even PAL (European standard) DVD's and with an easy UnlockCode you can turn it to the REGION FREE DVD player. It comes also with a 100-240V AC Universal NetAdapter (it will work in any country).
Instantly.
