Great laptop!

Pros: Great battery life, great value Cons: Ran into a few problems that Dell fixed.
This laptop runs great, especially for the price. However, the battery was sucked down in about an hour on Windows XP. On Kubuntu Linux I can get close to two hours if I set the power mode on powersave. However, I have had a few problems. The machine got hit by lightning (didn't have it on a surge protector) after about 6 months. I sent it into Dell who got it back repaired. They also replaced the keyboard, where a key had been messed up thanks to my cat. (Speaking of keyboards, this laptop is excellent to type on compared to some previous laptops). Later I had the power supply die. I bought a new one off of eBay for $10 as it was then out of warranty. However, I highly recommend this laptop overall. Much more reliable than comparable ones from HP.

Pros: CD & DVD Burning, 15.4 inch screen & light weight Cons: Lack of software & over priced compare to Gateway or HP
My 1st laptop, easy to use but Dell strips you of all your basic software and offers them to you for an additional fee. Most other brands offer you the same size and weight with all extras for free. Overall I like the Laptop and would recommend it for a 1st purchase.

DON'T BUY A DELL

Pros: Looks Nice - Big Screen Cons: Dell support is incompetent ( I'm not the only one that knows it )
Worked great for 5 months. Needed service. Tech showed up next day. Excellent! Toasted my battery first,then my motherboard ! He replaced motherboard, and one month later I'm still waiting for a new machine. No battery-so my laptop is now a desktop.
Meanwhile I have been BALLISTIC more than once. I can't tell you how many times I've been on the phone ( with India ).
I can't tell you how many times I was told this issue was being escalated. Still no replacement. THE BIGGEST SWINDLE IS THE WARRANTY ! Buyer beware ! What they don't tell you is that after 21 days you are NOT ENTITLED to a NEW machine as a replacement. They're sending me a refurbished unit. It took a month to find that out.
They couldn't give me that information, and EVERY CALL OR ON LINE CHAT TAKES @ 1 HOUR. Pray if you buy a DELL it doesn't CRASH and BURN. If it does, just buy a plane ticket for Texas or India. It take less time to fly there than to make a phone call that gets results.
I personally am filing a complaint with my state dept. of Consumer Affairs
