Pros: Coupons cut price drastically, Excellent graphics card and screen at reasonable prices Cons: Customer Service hit or miss, Competition comparable at same price points
In continuing with with my recent purchases of several notebooks, I'll be going over my Dell Inspiron E1705 17 inch notebook with some comparisons versus the HP Pavilion dv9233 17 inch notebook, the Dell XPS M1210, and my 2 year old Inspiron 6000. The ...

Pros: Standard features including screen size, graphics card and wireless card. Cons: Weight and battery life.
I can't even begin to tell you how much I love this laptop. I purchased this laptop in January of 2006 after months and months of research. I looked at both Dell and pretty much every other brand of laptop on the market. I ended up choosing the E1705 ...

Nice!
by djwolf ,Nov 02 '06
Pros: Powerfull, Big Screen, Nice Looking Exterior Cons: A Little Heavy at 7 pounds
When I go to the coffee shops I now have the nicest notebook. I do video editing which needs allot of processing power the E1705 Core Duo does the job. Please note that I ordered it with an ATI 256MB card inside, 7200rpm hard drive and 1 gig on ram. My total cost was $1500.00. It has an excellent screen at 17.5 inches. I find it a little heavy for carrying around, but the power it has is worth it. I like the E1705 with options very much. I also bought my at a time when they were not having a sale. A better price may be found if you wait for a sale. Also as of Aug. 26 2006 buyers get a free upgrade to windows Vista. I got mine on Aug. 4 so I missed out on that deal. Yes I recommend this notebook PC. The power of a desktop in a laptop.

Good Computer for the Money
by toogirls ,Nov 28 '06
Pros: large screen
flexibility for running various programs
bluetooth capabilities
Cons: no number pad
heavier than some laptops
The E1705 is a great laptop for those who need a computer who can handle the bigger programs but still need the portability of a laptop.
I have used my laptop for anything from photo-editing, web pages, browsing the internet, and game-playing. It has performed beautifully everytime.
The only thing I would change about the laptop is the keyboard. I would prefer if it had a number pad.

Pros: large screen, fast processor, easy to carry at 7 lbs Cons: None
Good working machine. Can be bought for approx $800 on the Dell website. Has buttons on front of case with mute, vol up and down as well as others. Handy to use. Plays DVD's well with clear screen resolution.

Gone to He......
by dellnot4me ,Apr 30 '08
Pros: It used to work well. Nice Screen. Cons: Dell support has gone from AMAZING to . . .
I've had this E1705 for just two and a half years and it is now starting to loose its functions. Recently, it has stopped being useful for playing movies. They stutter, the sound is out of synch with the picture and I've spend more than 6 hours looking for a solution. I like technology, not working on technology.

Good Choice
by infantry88 ,May 26 '07
Pros: Nice Screen, audio/video play buttons on front, nice looking, 6 USB ports Cons: wish it had a number keypad. Tech Support is so-so.
I bought this PC the end of December 06, during a sale but added some options so total it cost about $1600.
I needed something for college as well as personal use. I selected 17" for veiwing spreadsheets and playing games. It does both well, but trades some mobility for screen size. It's not heavy at all, and I'd still take it over a 15" any day.
Overall, it's a great PC, definatly recommend this choice.
Plays DVDs well, burns CDs, and has 6 USB ports.

Waste
by guido-63 ,May 18 '07
Pros: Nice screen. Cons: Read review
The first time out of the book this computer just did not work right. It was hit and miss connecting to the internet. It was hit and miss opening programs. I got rid of it in the first week of ownership. If you buy from Dell only buy their monitors and printers. If you want a laptop that works out of the box go Mac.

Constantly needs motherboard replaced
by deadkenlover ,Dec 31 '08
Pros: I've downloaded 40 movies and have 40% of my memory unused. Cons: The amount spent on keeping the warranty could have bought me a newer better notebook
I got my Inspiron e1705 in 2005. I absolutely loved it at first. It was fast, the screen was massive. I loved the DVD burning software that came with it. But after a year and a half I to get my motherboard replaced, then another 6 months later I had to have my mother board replaced again. It happens every 6 months like clockwork. As long as you are willing to constantly have to deal with Dell customer support and pay/renew the warranty this notebook is pretty darn awesome.
