Pros: Fast, huge, excellent sound and display, Good desktop replacement. Best warranty service I've ever experienced. Cons: Huge, Heavy
As I an architecture student, I needed a powerful desktop replacement that could provide amazing power, while still being somewhat portable. Luckily, as it was to be a gift, I was able to get everything I needed, and not skimp as a typical student ...

Pros: Graphics are a beauty, Extemely fast, loads of I/O ports Cons: heavy, but expected from a 17 inch laptop, predorminantly same design as the Inspiron 6000.
DELL Inspiron E1705: Inspiron Series: The Inspiron series was designed for the hip, new generation users as well as for the high-end power users. It showcases stylish design and a great price, unlike the Latitudes which are usually ...
Pros: performance, performance, performance. Cons: plastic casing. This is one huge, thick laptop.
Important note: The performance here is based on personal experience with other laptops, ACER 3003 (AMD 3000), Toshiba Satellite 5105-S501 (P4M 1.7 Ghz), and is based on my personal usage and NOT base on any performance utility. Judging by the ...
Pros: Beautiful screen, fast loading, insane amount of ports, ability to multi-task. Cons: Weight, battery life, price (depending on configuration).
The hard drive in my family desktop computer decided it was time to say goodbye to this world so I thought now would be a good time to upgrade and invest in my own computer, preferably a laptop with the power of a desktop. This way my dad can use the ...
Pros: Price, Features, Design, Plenty of Ports, 17" Screen, Weight, design. Cons: Have to find special accessories for 17" Screen, Otherwise none.
Over the last year I have had 8 computers and have not been satified with any of them. I was good with my Imac G5 but when dual core came out I wanted that. I was going to get a imac Dual Core but they were a little expensive for a non-laptop, so I ...
Pros: Superb speed, appearance, ease of storage, media capabilities, graphics and vivid color. Excellent customer support. Cons: Touch mouse took some getting used to. Other than that, nothing!
Sleek, reliable, powerful - money well spent! The price was right, too. It was a 2007 New Year's Resolution to buy a Dell laptop because I am an on-line instructor. I must have reliable technology in order to do my job, so this isn't the area to cut ...
Pros: It looked nice when I unwrapped it. Cons: Support is the worst.
Hardware experienced major errors after only three weeks.
I purchased a Dell 1705 one month ago. Within the first three weeks my computer froze up while preparing to standby. After powering down and powering back up the computer presented an error: 'c:\windows\system32\config\sy
stem'.
That night I spent five...
Pros: Great monitor. Wireless works flawlessly with standard wifi card. Cons: A bit heavy. Standard battery only lasts 2.5 hours on a full charge.
My wife and I run an ebay powerseller store and recently found the need to move to a wireless solution for the home. At first we thought that we would only use the laptop to sit in front of the tv and not do any actual powerful work on it. However, this ...
Pros: Nice sharp clear screen, Battery life not fantastic but adequate. Cons: EXTREMELY POORLY BUILT POWER SUPPLY. Delete Key location.
Nice enough handy and nice display, a pretty decent computer except the power supply. Unless you can find a place to put this and leave it where it won't be disturbed you won't be happy. Of course this isn't how laptops are used now is it Power ...
Pros: Have not found any Cons: It is a great computer and company.
I had been looking for a good laptop for awhile. I have had Dell desktops at my place of work, but have never owed one. Well I started shopping around and looking and comparing. Well I went to the Dell website and was looking around. I wanted a big ...
Great machine for the price by superfly33 ,May 27 '06
Pros: Great battery life; Fantastic performance; Light weight; Cons: Small keyboard; Hard to see UXGA in sunlight;
I replaced a Toshiba Satelite Series P4 laptop with this and this machine is amazing. The Dual core processor performance is more than just noticeable. The biggest surprise for me is the weight of this machine. Before I received the machine I was expecting it to weigh a ton with the 17" screen and all the bells and whistles but much to my surprise its much lighter than my toshiba. People were complaining about the heat dissipated from the laptop, I have not experienced this problem, it dissipates heat but nothing excessive.
I configured the E1705 with the following:
2GB DDR2 AT 667 RAM; 2.0GHz (it seems that when going for the dual core processor it is recommended to go 2GHz or higher for notice performance); UXGA Display; 60GB At 7200 RPM (7200 is the way to go, it makes a huge difference in performance);
I love this laptop! For the price it is absolutely worth it.
One complaint: Veeeery slow reboot by knemelka123 ,Feb 22 '07
Pros: Fast, beautiful display Cons: Problem with slow reboot
I bought the Inspiron E1505 a month or so ago. 1mg ram.
Right out of the package, there were boot issues. I turned it on and it took 15 minutes to boot. And, the Dell setup program stuttered and sputtered for 20 minutes. I find that if I boot up, and on the login screen shutdown/restart, then 9 times out of ten it is ok. Dell tech support had me mess with msconfig, but it didn't seem to help.
Pros: STURDY AND FEELS DURABLE Cons: VERY SLOW AND TAKES 5MINUTES TO BOOT UP AND 5MINUTES TO SHUT OFF.
THE COMPUTER IS VERY SLOW. IT TAKES 5 MINUTES TO BOOT UP AND 5 MINUTES TO SHUT DOWN. WHEN I CALLED TO COMPLAIN THEY TOLD ME IT MUST BE SOFTWARE RELATED AND CONVINCED ME TO BUY A $230. SOFTWARE CONSULTANT CONTRACT.. WELL AFTER TWO PHONE CALLS LATER AND TWO HOURS ON THE PHONE THE COMPUTER IS STILL VERY SLOW AND I TOLD THEM IT IS SLOWER THAN MY 3YR OLD GATEWAY. I WANTED TO RETURN IT BUT THEY SAID SORRY ITS 31 DAYS NOW AND I SHOULD HAVE RETURNED IT WITHIN 21 DAYS OF THE PURCHASE DATE ON THE PHONE.. THIS IS NOT COOL.. I FEEL LIKE I AM STUCK WITH A LEMON.
Great performance, awful display by tbisaacs ,Jun 26 '06
Pros: Power, Power, Power. Cons: Awful display.
Top of the line dual-core whiz bang spoiled buy a low quality display.
I expected that a 17" panel with 1920x1200 resolution would be top notch, but this dell is quite the contrary. The display is very washed out. Light greens look brown, light blues and grays are invisible. My dell has the intel video chipset, so there are virtually no options to adjust the color.
I have this laptop hooked to an external samsung 21" 204T via the dvi connection. The difference in the color is astounding.
