Pros: Amazing 1680x1050 display, extremely long battery life, powerful Core Duo CPU, inexpensive Cons: Somewhat large and thick, price varies a lot depending on Dell specials.
It’s amazing how notebook computers have come a long way in past years. A few years back, it would have been unthinkable to use a notebook computer for serious photography-related tasks with software packages such as Adobe Photoshop. Yet that’s exactly ...
Pros: Price, Centrino DUO chip, DELL brand - support/reliability, config Cons: poor viewing angle, bottom heats up, too much trial s/w loaded
Just got the 6400 loaded with the following config T2300 Centrino Duo 1.6GHz (now T2400 is std) 80 GB 5400 RPM Toshiba Hard Drive(actually only 75GB avail) 512MB SDDR2 RAM (many have 1GB now) 8x Philip DVD R writer & CD ATI X1300 Video Card 15.4" ...
Pros: Solid feel, good performance, nice fast wireless card Cons: Bad screen glare, cheap look
I purchased this Inspiron to replace a Latitude D series that was stolen. I travel with it a bit, but it mostly stays at home, so I decided to sacrifice on weight and size for a larger screen and better sound and graphics. this machine is a business ...
Pros: Good quality Cons: Just a few issues stated in my review
You know going in that the display is nice and big; the other side of the coin is that the unit bulkier to travel with. The display is razor-sharp on its highest resolution (as it comes out of the box), but noticeably less so with the lower resolutions, ...
Great value with outstanding specs by brainjar ,May 19 '06
Pros: WSXGA+ display, 15.4", Centrino Core Duo, form-factor Cons: On-board video card (no option for upgrade)
this machine has got great performance (i got the T2400), the UltraSharp TrueLife WSXGA+ (1680x1050) got me shocked! I muz caution you, if you come from the regular home users group...this screen res can be too much for you to handle.
But I believe this is very very GOOD for the photography buffs and those dabbling with graphics apps! Thumbs up here...
Super clear Hi-Res display, centrino core duo, form-factor is good for its class (a cross between desktop replacement and an occasional road-warrior's machine)
In my household, we have 3 Dell computers. A desktop, a Latitude and this Inspiron. For some reason, we've been having a lot of problems with the Inspiron. Let me list them.
First, there was the battery recall. I didn't really want to switch the batteries, but eventually did it free of charge.
However, about 9 months after the battery switch, our new battery started dying and we had to buy a new battery for the computer.
Most frustratingly, however, is how our hard drive (after only about 21 months) failed. We know of at least 2 other people with Inspirons who have had their hard drive fail. We tried calling Dell who charged us 39.99$ just for a phone call to someone in India who couldn't help us anyway. We ended up spending another 200 dollars to get the computer fixed and the our data restored. Frustrating for a computer under 2 years old.
Good value for a well-built laptop by metanoia ,Oct 05 '06
Pros: Great value and performance, durable construction Cons: Screen brightness, "clunky" form factor
I bought this office for CAD work, so I bought it with the ATI Radeon X1400 and 2Gb of RAM. I saved at least $300 and probably more if I had tried to get a similar machine from another vendor.
The overall performance of the machine is as good as a desktop; the laptop is solidly built and the keyboard has good feel. The wireless adapter has good sensitivity and throughput.
On the downside, the 1600x1050 screen is crisp, but not as bright as I would have hoped. The underside does get hot when you're using it -- not enough to burn skin, but hot enough to be uncomfortable if you're wearing shorts! The laptop also suffers slightly in the appearance department, with odd white plastic trim at the edges of the base of the computer. Other computer brands have much better notebooks -- even other Dells are better looking.
New models make the new Core 2 Duo model available -- for the same clock frequency, you get about 10% better performance and battery life over the original Core Duo models.
Pros: Speed, screen, construction, style, basically everything. Cons: Battery life could be better. The internal fan goes on often, so it runs hot.
I have had this notebook for 2 weeks and I really like it. I made a few changes to my order and they have worked out well. I got the 7200 RPM 80GB hard drive, which really makes a difference in speed. I also loaded it with 2GB RAM, which is great when Vista ships. Lastly I got the upgraded video card and screen, which makes a huge difference. Dual Core is nice!
This notebook is built very well. It just feels great working on it. It has all the bells and whistles, and for the price you cannot beat it.
I was less than enthusiastic with Dell's desktops but this notebook is top of the line.
Excellent laptop for the price by mark8464 ,Jul 09 '06
Pros: Great price Cons: Slow processor, not much hard drive space
I've used Dell for some time now, and this laptop lives up to the rest of the Dell products. Although a bit slow, it provides enough speed for my general business requirements, ie word, excel, email.
