Bigger is WAY Better

by inetmonkey , Apr 18 '05
Pros: Large, crisp, bright image with none of the ghosting seen on many LCDs.
Cons: Prohibitively expensive and difficult to set up for a novice computer user.
My adventure with Dell started about a month ago when I first ordered the monitor. It was a "gift" from Uncle Sam using the ol' tax refund. I ordered online, and everything was confirmed with Dell's usual automation process. For anyone who hasn't seen or ...

Awesome Monitor

by JMB623 Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Oct 25 '05
Pros: Reasonably priced, easy to install and run, makes viewing a computer screen fun.
Cons: Some light colors look washed out, no contrast adjust in DVI mode.
I had been watching this monitor since it was put on the market early in 2005. I was struck by the retail price of $1199.00, the 12 millisecond response time, the built-in card reader and USB 2 ports, and all the video inputs (DVI, VGA, SVHS, Composite, ...

Holy Cow... Thats really all I can say... Holy Cow...

by barnacules , Sep 03 '05
Pros: Resolution, Scan rate (12ms), Color, Quality, Number of inputs, Price.
Cons: 480p looks terrible (component) & USB/MemoryCard functionality is in a bad place.
This monitor is amazing! I am a gamer and I work with a multi-display setup so I know a thing or two about displays. Before purchasing this LCD panel I had 3 ViewSonic 20.1" (VP2000S) displays. They were fantastic but I longed for a widescreen monitor ...

Wow. Simply Wow.

by jcvalenti , Jul 25 '05
Pros: Image Quality, Intelligent Design, Price
Cons: Now I have to buy the wife an iPod - or she'll kill me.
About three months ago, I realized it was time to replace my trusty P4-1.4 Mhz mchine. In addition to copious word processing and database work, I've been spending a lot of time doing digital image editing and putting together video projects. In any ...

Absolutely unreal. Buy this.

by lordchocice , Jul 08 '05
Pros: Quality, price, brightness, ease of use
Cons: Delayed shipment, needs high-performance video card (like all monitors this size)
I’d been lusting after this monitor for months, and I finally gathered the courage to buy it. It really is unbelievably good. I haven’t read the other reviews on this just yet, so that my review can be totally unbiased. Purchase I ordered this ...

Big, bright, and bulky

by slimtae , Feb 27 '06
Pros: Big screen, useful (although cumbersome) add-on features.
Cons: Price, lousy video/movies quality.
Every time I buy a cell phone or MP3 player, they get smaller and smaller. Every time I buy a TV or computer monitor, they get bigger and bigger. My latest monitor is the 24" Dell Ultrasharp LCD monitor. My 19" was fine, but I got reimbursed from my ...

-Intro- Well... i'm an lcd junkie and just geek junkie... this last jan i went out and bought a 19" Hyundai LCD and loved it, my previous lcd was only a 15" so the jump to 19" was amazing!. however, after updating my htpc to windows mce ...

The Future of Computing Only On WideScreen

by hurl_spoon , Sep 11 '05
Pros: This monitor has best specs of any LCD, options and configurations are it's strength.
Cons: Dell needs to think about offering a screen saver cover to rival projection TV's.
The Dell UltraSharp 2405FPW 24" LCD Monitor is modded out to perfection with so much more to offer then any other monitor I've ever seen. It has a built into the side 9 slot carder reader, a larger variety of hook-ups and connectors on the back then ...

Stunning display at a steal price.

by michaelcharles , May 10 '05
Pros: Huge, fast response times, no more scrolling through documents! Incredible value.
Cons: Huge, may not be everybody's cup of tea. Still kinda pricey.
I ordered the 2405FPW through Dell Canada on April 27th and it arrived May 6th. I was using a Dell 2001FP display and was extremely pleased with that monitor's performance. I just couldn't pass up a chance to own a wide screen for approx. $1,330 ...

This is a truly nice monitor

by cartaufalous , Jul 02 '05
Pros: Huge screen, clarity, color, no dead pixels, great price.
Cons: Excessively bright, ugly, wrong aspect ratios with video inputs.
I love my 2005fpw, so I got another Dell monitor, 24" this time. Like my older monitor, the 2405fpw comes beautifully packaged, and arrived much sooner than Dell told me it would. Hooked up, it's stunning. Stunningly bright, too, even with the ...

Dell 2405FPW LCD flat panel monitor
by iatacs19 ,Mar 02 '06
Pros: Large screen with high resolution of 1920x1200, available for cheap, good exchange warranty from Dell.
Cons: After a few weeks you get used to the resolution and might want more...
This is a large LCD, I was using the 2001FP prior to getting this. The 2001FP has a resolution of 1600x1200 vs. 1920x1200 for the 2405FPW. The biggest difference is the extra space gained from the wide screen format.

Color saturation is good, response time is fast enough for casual gamers. Backlighting is somewhat uneven, but it's not that noticeable. Might get some dead pixels, it's all luck.

I quickly found out that this is still not enough space. It is a nice upgrade from 1600x1200, but 320 extra horizontal pixels doesn't make a huge difference and the dot pitch is increased from the 2001FP.

It has VESA mount which I am using with a Ergotron arm. I am running it with the BFG 7800GT card, no DUAL-LINK DVI is needed since the WUXGA falls under SINGLE-LINK DVI bandwidth specs.

My next stop is that Dell 3006FPW, now that is a true upgrade from 1600x1200 ---> 2560x1600

A great monitor at a great price...I love it!
by jayvee2 ,Mar 13 '06
Pros: The price has come down, great size, very bright, flexibility (swivel, tilt, rotate)
Cons: Doesn't turn my Mac CPU on or off, can get very warm
My Dell 24” arrived just today and I couldn't wait to get it set up. I run Mac G-4, OS 10.4.5. I was VERY amazed that it worked via the VGA cable to the original video card. I’ve already ordered a beefed-up card (128 MB vs. the original 32 MB) now I’m not sure I need it!
This monitor is simply stunning. The sleekness and black case would fit anywhere. The controls work perfectly.
One down side. With my old 17 inch Apple Studio Display I could turn on my CPU from the monitor. I can’t do that now. (Or at least I haven’t figured out how!)
I looked at and had my heart set on an Apple 23 inch but after reading too many poor reviews I chanced upon the Dell. And you save $300 to boot!
If you’re in the market for a larger LCD monitor this is a good bet. The size is just right for standard desktop work. I can’t image wanting a larger one.

Great Monitor
by wizrd66 ,May 15 '05
Pros: Great Picture, small desktop footprint. Light Great Features. Menu's are easy to navigate.
Cons: Card readers create 4 removable disk drive letters. Very minor Con!
I just received my monitor yesterday. It was a snap to connect and configure. The picture is sharp and clear. The monitor is very bright so bright in fact I actually lowered the Contrast and Brightness. I have it set on the MAX 1900X1200 setting and the text is sharp and Clear.
The Built in USB Ports on the monitor are a great plus. It also has which I did not realize at the time of ordering are multiple card reader slots for Camera memory cards. This was a surprising added bonus. I am so far very pleased. With the quality of the product. It is very rare that I actually receive a product that offers more in the way of features than I expected.
I am totally blown away...

Got my NEW Dell 2405FPW for $780 and I'm happy!
by banana_sweet ,Nov 27 '05
Pros: HUGE screen, great versetile stand, tech specs live up to Dell name!
Cons: Price! But I was able to buy direct from distributor and I can't argue!
Bigger is WAY better! I used a 19" flat screen CRT for years and just didn't know what I was missing. You can basically view two 8.5X11" images at the same time sid by side with this widescreen! I got it for $780 sh direct from distributor (Neilson; 800-526-1744). They pixel-test your monitor for extra $25.00. Pixel test is worth it though for a $900 monitor!

For $780, this is a buy that CAN'T BE BEAT!!!
by berry12 ,Dec 05 '05
Pros: Price, value, size, everything!
Cons: Your friends will be jealous!
Thanks Banana_sweet for the tip. I just got mine delivered from Neilson - I sprung for the extra $25.00 on the "Premium Grade" pixel-perfect 2405FPWs they sell. As a webmaster and graphic designer, I needed the big screen! This 24" widescreen is fantastic! Love the built-in card readers!
