Ideal for Localized Heating, Despite Being An Electrical Hog

by smiles33 Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Jan 02 '08
Pros: Excellent at heating small room, Quiet, Timer, Safety features, Choice of Wattage Use
Cons: Slow to heat, but timer negates this problem
When we installed a solar photovoltaic system on our roof this past summer, I was thrilled with the idea of producing all the energy my house would need. Then the chill of a California winter set in (alright, alright, I know 40 degrees isn't that cold!) ...

Great heater for small/ medium sized rooms

by ohern4ever , Nov 24 '08
Pros: - warms efficently and consistently, silent operation
Cons: - high center of gravity, no exact thermostat
I bought a heater this past year because my 18 month son's room happens to be the coldest room in the house. His room is on the second floor where the heat has somewhat of a hard time making it up anyway, and compounding the issue the attic access is in ...

As Paris Hilton would say: "That's Hot"

by crucut , Oct 21 '06
Pros: Size, Actually heats a room, Timer, Construction
Cons: None
This heater is perfect for the cold months. It helps cut down on my gas heat(ouch) and doesn't look too bad in the process. The construction of the unit is the most durable of any heater I have seen. It comes with the standard 4 wheels to allow for ...

DeLonghi oil filled radiator heater a winner

by gregepin04 , Dec 08 '06
Pros: economical to use and very efficient
Cons: more expensive than the ceramic type...but worth it
The DeLonghi oil filled radiator heater is a must for any household that needs a little extra heat(or a lot). The selaed unit it virtually maintenance free. Dust it off at the end of the cold season and that's about it. We use two of these type heaters ...

Silent; puts out good heat; a bit slow

by happyharriston , Oct 31 '07
Pros: Silent; good heat output; attractive.
Cons: Heavy; takes longer to warm up a space than one with a fan.
This is a nice, effective heater. It doesn't warm up fast and blast you like a ceramic heater with a fan, but this is great for bedrooms and other places where you'd prefer not to have hot air blown in your face or the steady drone of a fan. We use it ...

Unacceptable smell.

by greenman99 , Nov 21 '08
Pros: Great heat. It heated a bedroom with the window open (25F outside).
Cons: The substance that creates the smell is unknown. DeLonghi does not have a MSDS sheet.
I ran the heater for 4 hours at the highest setting to drive off the shipping coating that is applied (The instructions recommend 2 hours). The smell was terrible even with the windows open. I called DeLonghi to ask them what the substance was in case it ...

Toasty
by mpgc ,Feb 04 '08
Pros: timer, value, non-drying heat
Cons: heavy, no way to carry up stairs,
Excellent value considering the amount of space heaters purchased over the years. Excellent applications for bedrooms, baths and smaller spaces. No fan so no noise or that dryness that makes your eyes hurt and throat raspy.
I have 2 now one in a 13 x 30 dining room just to take the edge off the drafts coming into a 109 year old house. The second I have in my bedroom 15X20 and just wonderful warmth so much so that she doesn't need her flannels.
If you want instant heat forget this one but for those who want effective heat this is the one

100 amp requirement is not true
by tryoty ,Dec 04 '07
Pros: Silent, timer, high heat output
Cons: I'll comment on my electric bill next month. :-)
The relationship between voltage current and power (Watts) is a fixed formula. This is a 1500 watt heater. In a standard home with 115 volt service it will draw a maximum of 1500 / 115, or a little over 13 amps.

Most homes have 15 amp circuit breakers, so this heater will draw close to the limits of a single circuit, but if you're using it to take the nip out of the air at night this won't be a problem.

Now if you try to put it in a bathroom and then use a hair dryer or curling iron you WILL pop a breaker. I have looked into many heaters over the last few days and am buying this one today. It has the best reviews based on my needs for a heater.

I will write another review to grade its heat output in a few days.

[I'm back, as promised.]

I highly recommend this product!

Works like a charm in daughters room
by gapno14 ,Oct 05 '08
Pros: No worry about her not shutting it off and it running all day.
Cons: None
My daughter can set it so her room will be warm when she gets up in the morning and upon coming home from school. Not turning on the gas furnace since her rooms are the last to get the heat.

Great little heater
by sidetrackup ,Jan 16 '07
Pros: Timer, great heating and saves cash to boot.
Cons: Neighbor girls stopped by and I was in my tighty-whities :(
I just got one of these beauties and it works great. I saw nothing on the box about (100 amp) electrical service requirement.Being an electrician, I understand that it wouldn't make a bit of difference for the operation of the heater anyway. I use it in my living room and bedroom at night. the only problem is I keep getting the urge to turn the thermostat up as high as it will go so i can run around in my underwear :) and still be comfortable.
I can tell by looking at my electrical service meter that it is already saving me loads of cash while providing a more even and constant heat than my central unit(for a single room). The timer is a great addition and helps save cash by cutting down usage during sleepy hours.

Italians do it better
by powrtoch ,Apr 24 '07
Pros: Quiet, efficient, effective
Cons: Not powerful enough for large spaces, not exactly interior-design friendly
After trying a Vornado (ineffective, dried out the air so much it gave me nosebleeds) and a Holmes (Bed & Beth seems to stock these mostly, but: stay away! all the negative reviews I've read of them should've warned me off but I was desperate), I finally ordered the DeLonghi TRD0715T. Ah, radiant bliss . . .

It's quiet, efficient, and does what it's supposed to do: heat up your room. I like the swiveling wheels, which makes it easy to tug around, love the timer option.

Maybe I got lucky, but the notorious smell hasn't been a problem. As soon as I got it, I left the heater on high in a different room for a few hours and that took care of it.

Great Product !
by bigdaddyinmd ,Feb 10 '07
Pros: Great value. Actually puts off a nice amount of heat. Reliable. Cord wrap
Cons: None.
I totally disagree with the poor review by the person below. My DeLonghi puts out great heat (and this has been a very cold month) and this little unit has paid for itself 10x over in what it has saved me on my heating bill....and it works fine in my 110v outlet.

Excellent!!!!

Great! Great! Great!
by boogaloo42 ,Nov 19 '07
Pros: Fast, efficient heat distribution.
Cons: All radiant heaters dry out the air.
I had an earlier model that's at least 15 years old and it was a workhorse. It only gave out when the switches broke and they've redesigned it to eliminate that problem in this model.
The addition of the timer is fantastic. I have a physical therapy practice and different patients have different temperature needs to be comfortable. I use two of these to be able to get a 14'x25' well above 75 degrees for some of my most popsicle-toed patients. With the timer integrated into the unit I can put away the bulky timers I've been using for years. That makes for a cleaner and more professional look while still saving on energy costs. Since it heats up so quickly and distributes heat so well I can set the timer to turn off in between sessions and know that I'll have it hot enough again in an hour!

Inexpensive, heats well, but noisy
by hollymartin ,Oct 08 '08
Pros: Good heat, fairly easy to set up.
Cons: Noise
We have a bedroom that is a bit larger than this unit is supposed to heat, but the first night I turned it on it seemed to make a difference. Unfortunately the TAP-TAP-TAP woke both my wife and myself. I know, it doesn't have a fan, so what's making all the racket? Don't know. Something expanding and contracting no doubt, but it doesn't go away. Sending this one back.
