Don't let the small wheel size fool you - this is one heavy duty, and very versatile, tool. I bought mine in 1995, expecting to use it on only on a few projects. The decision to pick it up was based largely on the price - $59 at the now-defunct Pergament ...
Pros: excellent tool for small shops, dependable Cons: small and underpowered for long or large applications
This grinder has the right amount of power for medium-duty applications. Its motor is extremely well-built and doesn't overheat like my old one. The motor is also well-balanced and reduces arm stress. I found this machine very comfortable to use. The...
Pros: Strong motor, easy to change wheel, three handle positions Cons: I like the paddle-trigger, but some may not for safety.
I needed a grinder to address a corroded-through leaf-spring mount on my F-150. I bought the DeWalt two years ago based on what I've known of DeWalt's reputation (which, I have been made aware of, no longer applies to their cordless drills, but I ...
This tool is built right. Very durable, I doubt one person can wear one out. You'd have to drop it a long way to hurt it. The paddle switch has an effective little safety catch, and is easy to operate one handed. You're not aware of holding the...
This is one well built grinder. As a welder, I've been using grinders for years. I probably use my grinder more than any other tool. I've tried just about every grinder out there, and for the money this is my top choice. My tools go through severe...
Grinders are all pretty much the same, it seems, being so simple, but this one stands out as being well made, light, balanced and surprisingly powerful. I've used mine for typical masonry and metals grinding and cutoff work, and occassionally as a...
Pros: Good Power, comfortable switch operation Cons: accidental triggering possible
The DW402 4-1/2" Angle Grinder is perfect for cleaning log surfaces which have grayed with exposure to the sun. Lite yet powerful, the 402 delivers a whallop of a grind when put to the test. The paddle switch is easy to operate and it doesn't tire out...
Pros: light, versatile, had plenty of power, price Cons: unit burned down in an hour and a half old from brand new!
Just purchased unit to grind some concrete. Using specified grinding wheel in the manner it is suppose to be used. 1.5 hours of grinding concrete motor starts smoking and motor seizes. Not sure if I got a bad one but it did work good for an hour and a half. But now I will find out how Dewalt honors their warranty. will update.
Wear goggles! Don't overload. by joshua73 ,Jul 08 '05
Pros: Easy to use. Paddle switch is nice, but costs. Enough power for most uses. Cons: Fan exhaust throws debris. Not quite heavy duty enough for me.
I made 2 trips to the hospital with fragments in my eye. The exhaust from the motor cooling fan not only exits to the sides, but upward as well throwing debris under the lens of my safety glasses. I killed this grinder by overloading while using a wire cup brush to remove rust. The commutator came apart and tore up the brushes and brush holders. Parts are expensive so I replaced it with another brand.
