Pros: Lightweight, Many Different Functions Available, Portability, Programming/Customization Cons: None Yet! Will Update if I Have Problems!
To me, the Sirius Satellite Radio (SSR) S50 is the definition of functionality and beautiful design! With the constant boom in IPod-like devices, SSR has surpassed the standard when it comes to radio and portability! I’ve had SSR for about 5 months ...
Pros: Very sleek, attractive unit. Recording radio is surprisingly handy. Cons: Locks up constantly, ergonomics need work.
After anxiously awaiting my Sirius S50, I have spent the last 2 months getting familiar with it. It has also been my introduction to satellite radio. All in all, I love the programming but must admit, I'm disappointed with the technology (especially ...
Pros: Excellent features
Gorgeous design
Intelligent functionality
Sirius has great content Cons: Sirius DOES have commercials
Signal occasionally finicky on stormy days
Can't customize storage
I was worried about getting this since I read reviews on this site and a couple others and people tended to either love it or HATE it. I told my installer this and they promised that if I didn't like it, I could return it and they would de-install it ...
Pros: Lightweight and very portable, connection/docking options, color LCD screen, media player functions Cons: Budget quality construction, challenging to get signal reception (home kit), cumbersome menu navigation
Purchase through Set-up: I purchased the S50 about a month ago, at Best Buy. It was on sale with a manufacturers rebate ($50), so I felt it was a pretty good deal. This is my first foray into the world of satellite radio, and while I debated which ...
Pros: Great look, great features, great combination package, good sound quality. Cons: Slightly cumbersome at first, why no video with that screen?, no MP3 resume.
I have been quite happy with the unit. I received it for christmas and have been using it since. I love the look of the display, the quality of the audio and the range of music that Sirius gives. I have had one problem so far of the unit not ...
I installed the S50 in my car in April. I fell in love with this gadget right away! Sirius has some pretty amazing channels. As far as receiving a consistent signal it works fairly well, although I found it impossible to record a song when I was going ...
Pros: Great service, Love the music and the stations Cons: too much work, too hard to figure out playlists, not reliable, never has a signal
As soon as I found out about the S50 coming out last year, I nixed the iPod idea for Christmas and jumped into this. I should have waited until the product matured and Sirius smoothed out the kinks more, because this has not been what I call I glorious ...
Pros: Supposed hard drive to record/pause programming. Cons: Not user friendly. Hard drive not perfected.
This is my 2nd Sirius product. My Sportster broke after 2 years, so I guess that's not too bad. I then purchased the S-50 because it has a hard drive which allows you to record. Unfortunately the hard drive malfunctioned after only 4 months of regular usage.
Luckily, I had purchased the extended warranty from Circ-City, but ha, ha, ha. They no longer carry this model and wanted me to pay an extra $100 to upgrade to the new model. I finally just asked for my money back (which they returned).
I wish Sirius invested a fraction of the money that they invest in programming in functioning hardware so that customers can hear what they are paying for.
Great product for travel pros by mhhome ,Jan 11 '07
Pros: Portability, size, sound quality, "music refresh" from broadcast Cons: model is being closed out, replaced by Stiletto
I bought this player a couple of weeks ago an I love it! I also bought the home dock so it is easier to setup to record shows from Sirius radio. I've then listened to the shows on an airplane or while walking. Great portability! The sound quality is good, the reception is good. The controls take a bit of getting used to, but thats fine. You can also load your own music from your PC to take along. It can hold 50 hours of music.
I am someone who doesn't necessarily like to listen to the same songs/music repetitively, so I like the ability to record new shows and take them with me. For me, better than an MP3 player.
GREAT for travel. Small form factor, can fit in a purse or briefcase. Earbuds included work well.
Although I've had the player a short time, I do recommend it.
Pros: portable, pause,Rewind,FF live music, mp3, can store favorite songs, records Cons: Wires are a pain in the neck
Got this for Christmas and was a little overwhelmed at first because it is capable of so much. Once I figured it out I was glad I got it because I've really enjoyed it. The portable feature is great and the commercial free music is even better.
Pros: 40 hour record capability. Good customer support . Cons: Way too complicated. Controls are hard to use, not intuitive. Changes channels too slowly.
As it's the only unit available that automatically records, I would have to recommend it. However it is very complicated to use. I can't figure out how to title the shows differently (if it's even possible), so every Stern show has the same name on the recorded list. I have to scroll through many menus to try to delete the shows that I've listened to, and then find a list of shows all with the same name so I don't know which ones to delete. When trying to change the record options I somehow deleted all programming and had to use the cd with my pc (doesn't work on Mac) and the supplied cable to restore the programming. Until I did this I could not listen to any stations.
Adhesive mount fell right off. The one that attaches to the air vent works better.
Still waiting for home dock. I've been back-ordered for weeks.
Pros: Stores MP3's. Cons: Requires dock all the time.
All excited about this thing having an FM tuner and being able to load your own MP3's. Upon receiving it ALWAYS update the firmware. I guess these are quite buggy. Turns out the FM transmitter is only available while docked. WHY??? The whole point is to not have to wire anything up to the existing stereo. THEN, insult to injury, there's no satellite tuner at all in this thing! Once again, it has to be docked. So all you get is a storage device to listen to PRE-RECORDED music on yours or satellite. No live. You might as well glue on the docking station to the unit. So it becomes almost a foot long! Also, to help avoid the added DRM junk, "decline" the Windows Media Player install. Evil software! Returning ASAP.
Pros: Sleek, Sexy, Easy to Use. Cons: Still working out a few issues. Nothing major.
I am very happy with my Sirius S50. There are a few things they need to add to make it perfect but with the ability to add firmware and software updates, I'm sure the ability to add bookmarks, etc, are not far off.
The last update added the ability to record in 4 hour segments but until they add the bookmark feature I'm gonna stick with recording in 1 hour blocks.
Top 5 reasons why a cantaloupe is better than an S50 by whaduppeeps ,Jan 24 '06
Pros: It looks cool - good in principle Cons: It wasn't ready for launch, and you can't eat it for lunch
(5) A cantaloupe has easier instructions
(4) Tastes better
(3) Doesn't break down for at least 1 month
(2) Costs $300 less!
And the #1 reason . . .
(1) When you toss it from your window after complete frustration, it makes better splatter marks.
Sirius S50 performs with class. by lempilot ,Jan 04 '06
Pros: small, lightweight, color screen, records live sirius radio, etc... Cons: no fm modulator, no internal antenna
I have read many reviews about the S50, some good and some bad. Personally, I love it. When docked it picks up Sirius perfectly and when undocked it plays MP3's perfectly. Remember, it does not have an internal antenna so it must docked to receive live Sirius satelite.
The pros are numerous and the cons can be overcome with software updates and, hopefully, an attachable fm modulator and antenna. All in all, it is an impressive piece of hardware.
It records songs from Sirius when docked, it even records the entire song if you push record button after the song has begun (I have waited up to 30 seconds to record an entire song, however, if the song has been playing for longer then it will tell you it can record but the song will be incomplete.) I downloaded the firmware update and I have not had a problem yet.
I highly recommend this unit. Some people complain of software problems or not being able to record blocks of music--thanks RIAA. All in all, if you have any software/hardware sense you will love this unit.
