Gave up on my "D" animal less than 2 yrs after purchasing.  Sometimes it worked but mostly it clogged & all I could smell was "dog" although I do not have carpet, have never vacuumed the hardwood when its wet and changed the filter before vacuuming EVERY time.  We have 2 Labs, 2 cats, one messy, yet adorable, 4 yr old little boy and all hardwood or tile floors.  I need something kind to 100 yr old hardwood floors and that I can easily vacuum the hardwood steps with.  Have been using a HEPA shop vac for the past 6 months but tired of lugging it around.  Just got this vacuum and love it so far.  Vacuumed entire 1st floor in <15 min and no dust/hair escaped from the canister!  Its not as loud as the other brand and I figure at this price I can replace every 6 moths and get one for the upstairs and still make out better then the "D" brand.

Specs:  lightweight, auto cord retract, easy to pull or carry, no problem vacuuming up LOADS of pet hair, sucked up a penny that did not clog the filter (I was able to empty it out with the cannister), great price for HEPA vac
