Pros: Very different from any other movie out there... Cons: So different that it will probably alienate a lot of people...
Preamble
Is it me or does it seem like Renée Zellweger is just a tad bit overexposed these days? While I'm patiently waiting in line at the grocery store, she seems to grace the covers of every magazine and the gossip rags love her....

Pros: the overall look and feel of the thing. smart script to boot. Cons: not quite perfect, as the ending is a bit of a let down.
I'll be honest right off the bat, I absolutely adore movies that seem to get high off of the sheer exuberance of movies themselves, movies that wrap you up, plunk you down somewhere new (or in this case, somewhat old and already explored but not quite in...

Pros: Colorful, funny, stocked with great performances Cons: Not everyone's bag of tomatoes
For the most part, I loathe any modern film defined as a "romantic comedy"; not because I'm a cold and callous guy but because most of these movies are lazy and pedantic and poorly veiled vehicles for whatever rich lady may be the current Big Multiplex...

Pros: Great idea, nicely executed, lots of humor Cons: Third act drags, not for everyone's taste
It's a sad fact of life, but sometimes movies come out at just the wrong time. Small, cute sorts of movies that might have potential for success with a February or March release sometimes get tossed out opposite huge, 10,000 screen blockbusters.

Pros: Some greatish supporting performances. Cons: Why?
It was so nice to wake up in my own bed this morning, safe from my recent travails in Iraq. I'll have to admit that the pink satin sheets were a bit musty from disuse and the gilded chains that suspend the carved swan white bed frame had some rust...

Pros: Ewen McGregor and Renee Zellwegger are terrific; superb production values Cons: Self conscious homage can feel annoying at times
Ewen McGregor and Renee Zellwegger make a terrific onscreen combo in Peyton Reed's DOWN WITH LOVE, a film that treads on the same glossy, hyper-homage style employed by Todd Haynes in last year's "Far From Heaven," with similar results.

Pros: Spot-on recreation of the movies of the era; cute lead performances. Cons: Some may think the whole thing's silly.
Watch out, Meg and Sandy--is there a more charming and incredibly adorable actress working the comed ...

Pros: Whimsical, cute and innocent. Zellweger and McGregor make an adorable combative couple. Cons: Our youthful generation of movie goers may not appreciate it.
Renee Zellweger and Ewan McGregor are wealthy enough to take movie chances. And they do that with Down with Love a romantic comedy and farce peppered with enough in-jokes and sexual innuendo to make an audience say, huh? You have to...

Pros: Funny Renee' Zellweger Cons: None for Me
Down With Love, which takes place in the swinging sixties, follows the success of feminist author Barbara Novak (Zellweger), who's book, also titled "Down With Love," preaches a message of empowerment to women of the period. So what's the catch?...

Pros: Engaging lead and supporting actors, nothing heavy but a fun flick Cons: predictable, sometimes out of character
Down with Love is not a great movie but is quite amusing. It doesnt hold a true candle to the Doris Day fluff comedies of the 60s she did them not only with Rock Hudson, but also with Cary Grant and earlier in the late 50s with...

Pros: Zellweger and McGregor give great performances; there's a surprising plot twist! Cons: I can't think of any cons!
Set in the early 1960s when the womens movement was just beginning, Down with Love follows the career of Barbara Novak (Renee Zellweger), who has just released her first book, appropriately titled Down with Love. In this book, Novak teaches...

Pros: A cute spoof of the 60's genre Cons: too sappy
I took my 22 year old cousin to see this film - she is a big Renee Z. fan. I didn't expect too much from this movie - so I was not disappointed.
Although the film does a wonderful job of spooofing the Doris Day- Rock Hudson movies of the 60;s,...

Pros: Very witty. Great acting. Extremely funny. Cons: The trailer wasn't very good. May seem too campy for some.
For those who don't know, Down With Love is an homage to the Doris Day/Rock Hudson sex comedies of the 60s. It is not a spoof. It is made to look as though it were filmed in the 60s, so don't go in expecting a run of the mill romantic comedy. It...

Pros: A real mockery of '60's Day or Randall films
Cons: no deep or meaningful qualities
Rene loves to sing, and she loves to put on hose. We ask ourselves why her face is so puffy sometimes - have you notice her chipmunk cheeks? Other than that, her flip hairstyle and those luscious '60's costumes with hats and wraps must have been very...

Pros: Ewan Mcgregor. Cons: You have to be in the mood to see it.
I went to see this with my mom, after going without her to see the Matrix Reloaded just a few hours earlier. As we waited in the line on opening night, my mom said, "I hope it isn't crowded." The guy standing behind us remarked smugly, nodding towards...
