I purchased the Dreamgirls soundtrack after seeing the movie. I can imagine that without seeing the movie, the soundtrack will not take on much meaning, but after seeing the movie it will definitely change your perspective of the soundtrack. ...
Pros: The music is simply fabulous Cons: You'll have to get used to Eddie Murphy's vocals
I purchased the Dreamgirls soundtrack several weeks before the movie came out. I'll admit that I purchased it more so because I wanted to see if Eddie Murphy's girl was still partying all the time, than for the music itself. Listening to this ...
Pros: Great vocal performances by all! Cons: Don't spoil your enjoyment of the movie coming soon!
In 1983 my wife and I celebrated a wedding anniversary with a weekend trip to New York City, primarily to catch a couple of Broadway shows. On that weekend we saw "Cats" on one night, and "Dreamgirls" the next night, two of the hottest shows of that year ...
Pros: glitzy, glamarous Broadway-tinged r&b music, Jennifer freakin' Hudson Cons: too long, a couple of blah tracks, Murphy can't keep up, Foxx isn't that likeable
I never really get that excited for movie soundtracks these days; for me personally, I just don’t like the way the songs are arranged, what songs get picked and how none of it seems to relate to the movie, unless the soundtrack is from a musical or is ...
Pros: Excellent singing, good songs, nice tribute/satire of Motown and sixties music in general. Cons: Nothing really, a few transitional musical pieces to be expected.
Dreamgirls is a movie I just wasn't completely sold on when I saw it advertised on my DVD of Destiny's Child performing in Atlanta. I had my doubts this was going to be artistic film as much as a extended Beyonce love festival with her ...
Relive the Moment of the Dreams by lli_wright ,Dec 22 '06
Pros: A continuation of the dazzling movie. (No hip-hop) Cons: Couldn't find any.
This is a wonderful music CD of the movie soundtrack. Having seen the movie before it's release, I wanted to relive the songs. All the original singers are on this CD and they sing stellarly.
The standouts are "Family" lead singer Keith Robinson (C.C.) and of course, "And I Am Telling you I'm not Going" sung by the great Jennifer Hudson.
The songs flow from one track to the other seamlessly with original dialog intertwined. You can visualize the scenes, which when on screen were dazzling.
Other standout songs are "Stepping to the Bad Side", in the movie this starts the slide from Curtis being an honest producer to being the music producer who uses payola and bribes to get his acts to cross-over.
The first half of the CD, like the movie, has the most memorable Broadway-type show tunes, bouncey and with full orchestra and robust voiced backup singers. Every singer on this CD is in fine voice.
Pros: Has Beyonce, thats always good. Cons: Sometimes the songs can get a little boring telling a message.
Okay I am not going to lie, I am in love with Beyonce, so that was pretty much the reason I saw the movie and bought the soundtrack. In this soundtrack they have Eddie Murphy, Beyonce Knowles,Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Hudson, and Keith Robinson. They all form an incredible repretoire of singing sensations. The soundtrack has some slow sad songs, and has the fast funky music for the people with soul.I think Jennifer Hudson did a good job, but like I said all the props go to the wonderful Beyonce. She tones down her actual skill to help Jennifer stand out more and get some attention. But she does do a song named Listen that is unbelievable. My personal favorite is Eddie Murphy's Jimmy Got Soul which in the movie he starts out singing slow to his wife and the girl he has been cheating with for eight years. In the middle of that slow song he stops and starts a little rap that has some lines like Jimmy want mo', Jimmy want, Jimmy want, Jimmy want mmmmoooooooooooooo'!!! I love that song because its so fun. I think you will agree withme that this soundtrack is good once you buy it.
