Initially, DreamHost can actually be anyone's dream hosting service, super storage space, super bandwidth, and which both still growing weekly - and all at a low price!

Unfortunately, the "you get what you pay for" holds true here - only in a span of a month have I encountered TOO much troubles:

- lost emails due to name servers being reset
- downtimes when connecting to the mail servers
- delays in email transmissions for around a day
- gigabytes of files suddenly disappearing (the most recent)
- customer support that dont read through your support ticket history (and thus give you solutions that never really answer your problems), meaning you have to post a new ticket resulting in being bump to the END of the line!
- definitely SLOW customer support - taking more than a day to respond to support tickets
- etc. etc.

and with that? all DreamHost can say is "we're sorry blah... blah... blah..."

how professional can you be when you think that "sorry" always cuts it?

Cons: unreliable, slow tech support , no telephone number to call, constant email server problems.

I have been with Dreamhost since 1999 and in the last few years I have had problem after problem. Sql servers were slow and not working, email servers are down almost every month. Right now I cannot access my email since their mail servers are down according to their emergency panel. I guess you really can't expect reliable service most of the time for such low prices. As a web developer, I should have left several years ago but I hoping the problems would eventually resolve but they have just gotten worse.
I would not recommend for web developers, or anybody that relies on their hosting to make a living.

Pros: Lots of bandwidth & storage. Helpful support. Tons of documentation Loads of features.
Cons: Not as reliable as some other hosts. Uptime is not what it should be.

I like dreamhost. I like the features. They really do offer a lot of features!

But, my sites go down fairly often. Sometimes ten minutes.. sometimes a little longer. They are friendly, courteous, and they (eventually) fix any issue.

I like them a lot. But, I couldn't recommend them to a serious web designer.

For newbies and personal accounts (blogs, etc), I highly recommend Dreamhost! With all of the features offered, you'll get to try out a lot of web 'stuff' and get lots of experience. You can change DNS settings, host multiple domains, use ftp, setup email accounts, use 'one-click' installs, subdomains, password protection, mysql, guestbooks, forms.. There's a lot of features!

I'm glad I signed up with Dreamhost. But, some day I'll be forced to move on. I don't think I could host a professional business website with them.

After transferring from a competing service last year, I have nothing but good things to say about DreamHost. I won't go through an exhaustive listing of their features, but rather will just touch upon those I especially favor. The fact that I can have as many domains as I want on ONE hosting account is quite important to me. The competing service I used wanted additional fees for every domain I wanted hosting on - but not DreamHost. Additionally, the basic level account includes incredibly large amounts of disk space and bandwidth for the price, as well as up to 3,000 email accounts. Very few other services offer this much. Together with the one-click installs, and good software support on the servers, I plan to stick with Dreamhost for quite some time to come.
