Awful

Pros: Good concept.
Cons: Doesn't work well.
This vacuum cleaner was completely not worth the money. My parent's bought it for me but I had to return it b/c it simply would not pick up dirt and lint off of the floor. It would not even suck up a string.
When I returned the vacuum cleaner, the salesperson took another on out of the box to prove to me that they work well. However, she had to apologize to me b/c it would would not pick-up little pieces of paper on the showroom floor.
I liked the "concept" of this vacuum cleaner, but it did not work like it was supposed to.

I never would have believed the cleaning POWER
by jillpie ,Nov 20 '04
Pros: Amazing suction,it's like a supercharged shop vac.
Cons: Price seems high, but wait until you see the results.
After my Hoover blew up and threw dirt everywhere I thought I should buy a new vacuum, they are all the same right? WRONG. This vacuum is simply AMAZING. I have 1 large, old and sometimes smelly lab/shepard mix who loves to shed everywhere all of the time, and 2 little kids under 4 years old who love to spread dirt everywhere. I thought my old vac was good, I will never buy anything less than a dyson again. I ran a new Hoover borrowed from my brother-in-law the night before the dyson came "home".It has to be seen to be believed, my wife and I just could not stop looking at all the dirt and hair (thru the clear cannister)

Best Vacuum I have ever owned!
by cago42 ,May 18 '04
Pros: Powerful, easy to use attachments, great for pet hair
Cons: A little on the high side for price but worth it!
"I was vacuuming one weekend with what I thought was a quality machine", in the words of Mr. Dyson I was doing just that then I bought the ANIMAL!! After using my machine, a Eureka upright with a bag, I vacuumed with my new Dyson Animal. I cannot begin to tell you how amazed and a little grossed out I was by the amount of additional dirt and pet hair that the Animal picked up. I have a pet beagle, and that short hair is a challenge to get off of anything, but with the pet hair attachment cleaning up the dog hair is very easy. I have only owned the machine for a little over a month, but have found nothing that I don't like about it. The design of the attachments are great, the extension hose for stairs makes it easy to clean without dragging the vacuum up each step. I cannot say enough great things about this machine!

Amazing vacuum
by kahng ,Feb 15 '07
Pros: Amazing at sucking up pet fur.
Cons: Bit pricey.
We have 3 indoor cats (and lots of cat fur) so we finally broke down and bought the Dyson Animal. I was skeptical at first about the claims (especially given the hefty price tag). However, the first time we used it, it blew us away. We did a little test as soon as we got it. We vacuumed our living room rug and sofa with our old vacuum. Then, we went over the same rug and sofa with our new Dyson. We were shocked with how much cat fur the Dyson pulled up (especially from our couch). We had to empty the Dyson canister twice! To this day, we're still amazed with how much cat hair (and dirt) the Dyson picks up. It was well worth the hefty price tag.

It's not a vacuum....it's a Dyson!
by mrsdarren1 ,Mar 22 '07
Pros: Style, power, convenience
Cons: Weight
My husband thought I was nuts to pay 400.00 for a vacuum. He changed his tune real fast the first time he tried it. This incredible Dyson picks up so much cat hair and dirt, stuff that you can't even see with your eyes, it's amazing.

I love the bin. One push of the button and the trap door opens and drops all the dirt directly into the garbage.

The attachments are great for stairs and under the couches.

I always use it on my bare floors, it's so much easier than sweeping every day.

In my house, DYSON is a verb!

If you have animals you need this ANIMAL
by smalltownmi ,Jan 01 '07
Pros: SUCTION, ease of use, looks sharp!! Easy disposal of dirt.
Cons: Getting used to pulling the wand and hose out...it gets easier with experience
I am beyond AMAZED with this vacuum!! In the last 5 years I have went through 2 Hoover Windtunnels (the $300.00 models) and an Oreck. We have two German Shedders (I'm mean German Shepherds) in the house and two cats. I am a self confessed NEAT FREAK. I do not allow my house to "look" or "smell" like I have animals....I love them but I respect the responsibility of keeping up with their shedding and tracking in. My last Windtunnel didn't even last a year...matter of fact we are supposed to send it in for them to "fix" or "replace" I've seen the Dyson advertised and I ADMIT the appearance was very attractive to me.....we decided to buy one. I am IN LOVE!!!! I have NEVER had a vacuum this good!! It is cleaning hair and dirt that my Windtunnel never thought about getting out. Very easy to use, astonishing to see what it pulls out every time you vacuum. It is an absolute MUST if you have pets....really people this thing is worth every single cent!! It's a cleaning addicts DREAM!! ;)

Pros: everything about it
Cons: can't find any
bought this dyson animal about 3 weeks ago and still can't beleive what i'm seeing.....didn't know our dog shed that much and after about a half a dozen uses, i still can't beleive the ground in dirt that this vacuum is pulling out of our carpet !.....i have had vacuums from sears, hoover and sharp in the past and thought they were doing the job, but now i know that i at last bought something that lived up to it's hype.....wow, what a vacuum

Love this Vac!
by mommabrowncow ,Mar 01 '05
Pros: Excellent suction!
Cons: Needs a retractable cord, kind of costly.
My wonderfull husband got this vacuum for me for Christmas. My old Eureka was held together with duct tape so I was very excited about this gift! It has been great. I went around vacuuming for a week just cause it was fun! You can see all the dirt it sucks up, you would be surprised at what your old one is missing. It does a fab job on my hardwood floors as well. So far the suction is still very strong. My only complaint is it could use a retractable cord, but better models may have this feature. The price is a bit steep but if it continues to preform this great it will be worth every penny. Thanks Dyson for making cleaning fun! Even my kids love to vacuum now!

I was a skeptic, but was pleasantly surprised.
by beverlyjk ,Jun 11 '04
Pros: Cleans deep, comfortable to use, quiet, hose reaches all my steps.
Cons: The only negative I have found is that it is a bit costly.
I have purchased expensive vacuums in the past, and was not planning on doing this again. I was skeptical about buying this, but my husband talked me into it. I was very pleasantly surprised on how well it cleans. I feel it gets deep into my carpets and does a good job with the pet hair. I actually enjoy vacuuming. I must admit that my husband was right, and I am thankful he talked me into this one. I would suggest if your thinking about purchasing this, go ahead, It was a good decision for us.

Amazed
by katherin_r ,Jan 10 '07
Pros: Strong suction, pet hair attachments, "transition" from rug to floor, and bare floor cleaning.
Cons: Tricky to take the extension hose out of handle and use some attachments.
I have been very impressed with this vacuum ever since I brought it home. Its most impressive features are the way it handles transitioning from rugs to bare floors without catching the edge of the rug and the "carpet" or "bare floor" features that turn the brushes on and off to clean different surfaces. You would assume it should work well on carpet, but I am extremely satisfied with its performance on bare floors. The attachments are a little clumsy to use, but their strong suction power more than makes up for it. I considered purchasing a Kirby vacuum a few months ago, but am relieved I didn't because the Dyson is far superior.

This is the BEST vac you can buy.
by awagoner ,Jun 01 '04
Pros: It sucks!
Cons: Too heavy, cord gets in the way.
I thought I would test drive the "purple people eater". It eats everything but! I am so impressed with the amount of dirt this pulled from my carpet. I use a Kirby 6 and I change the bag often and clean it every couple of months but with the Dyson Animal there is no comparison.

It’s heavy but not even close to the Kirby’s weight.

Not Enough for OUR Dogs!
by randersonmn ,Jan 18 '04
Pros: Suction, long attachment handle, long cord, fingertip dirt/dust disposal
Cons: Cost, not really the cure-all for dog hair, not so good on short-hap rugs/carpets
We've had a Kirby, a Panasonic and an Oreck and although the Dyson "Animal" is probably the best of the bunch for dog hair, we still have to completely disassemble the beater bar after every use to cut out the hair (we have three dogs, one really bad shedder). And the beater bar doesn't come out all the way. It's a hassle but better than the other three mentioned. It certainly has suction, but as somebody else mentioned - you can't use the "carpet" setting on some short-nap rugs and carpets or the beater bar makes an ungodly ratchet noise that signals trouble. (That was not a problem with the other three we've had.) The Dyson's good but someday I hope somebody makes a TRULY good vacuum for those of us with dogs.

Dyson Rocks
by jimmyclean ,Aug 30 '04
Pros: Super suction that is constant, great vacuum cleaner hands down...
Cons: A little pricey but a great value !
I own a cleaning business, Jimmy's Home Cleaning in Bowie, Maryland and have tried quite a few so called wonder vacuum cleaners. Quite frankly, the Dyson DC07 far exceeded my expectations. Just about any vacuum can pick up large items like the stores demo. What impressed me about the Dyson was the powder fine particles it would collect. I have asked to vacuum a potential client's carpet after their regular cleaning service has done it. They were shocked to see the sandy fine dirt and dust I collected. Plus the exhaust leaving the machine is super clean. Great for stairs, just leave it at the bottom, the hose stretches to the top easily. The lone cord is another plus. There is more to vacuuming than leaving some pretty lines in the carpet. When I clean it has to be really clean ! There is nothing about a Dyson vacuum I don't like.

this is an amazing vacuum
by debhpa ,Jan 16 '05
Pros: It is a snap to put together, light to handle and works like a dream.
Cons: It is a bit costly, but keep an eye out for sales.
After having my dirt devil fall apart, and having read the reviews listed on this site I decided to try this vacuum. It was on sale in a circular today and so I figured, what the heck, I'd give it a shot.

I had vacuumed the house two days ago, and shampooed the carpets a month ago, so I didn't really expect too much to be in the clear container...wrong. After going over a small portion of our dining room carpet, I was literally aghast. There was so much dirt in there that all of us reacted between amazement and dismay. After going over the whole downstairs we were sold. The carpets literally look newer and feel better. I realize I sound like a commercial, but, honestly, this thing is amazing. I am one happy woman, and believe me, I am a fussy person.

Absolutely the best of the best!
by keinah ,Jan 14 '05
Pros: Easy to carry. No bags to buy or change. Extra long cord. Fun to use.
Cons: Costs a little more.
LOVE IT!!!
True, it's a bit spendier but it is worth it. It is so versatile and it really does pick up all the pet hair. It even gets cat hair that has woven itself in to the fabric of your furniture.
If you ever get it clogged...which I've only done once, you simply detach the part where its clogged, clear it, and snap that part back on.
It is durable to say the least. I've dropped it, tipped it over and it keeps on going.
There are no bags to buy or change. When the container is full, you pick that part up, walk over to the trash, flip a trigger, and the bottom unlatches allowing the contents to empty right in the garbage. You never have to touch any gunk or dust.
Simply the best! I am going to buy another one for my rental.
