Expensive Gimmick
by mlm240 ,Feb 07 '07
Pros: None Cons: Expensive, Loses suction, cuts out.
Worked well for the first 6 months then continually started breaking down. I had to get new pins for the wheels, the belt went, it lost suction and it started to cut out....presumably it was overheating. I got the pins and belt on the warranty and to be fair the person I spoke to on the phone was great. My Dyson was taken to the local recycling centre and is now probably some kids plastic toy! Expensive and not very well built. It looks the part but doesn't deliver. Poor.

You may be crazy if you consider any other vacuum!
by leahjane10 ,Jan 18 '06
Pros: I can't believe something can vacuum this well. Seriously. Cons: OOF, the price.
A little bulky and hard to get the dirt canister out.
I LOVE this vacuum! I heard the rave reviews and wanted a Dyson, but didn't know anyone that actually HAD one...until my brother and his wife bought one and were gushing about theirs. That did it - now I have my own.
I moved into my first house recently, and the carpeting was fairly new. I vacuumed several times with my old Hoover, which seemed to work "okay". After I first used the Dyson, I nearly passed out - could all of that nastiness come from the carpet that looked to be in excellent shape?! I even hollered for my husband to come check out the dirt canister. Also, the carpet looks like it has been brushed and fluffed.
Truly amazing.

DON'T BUY ! IT OVERHEATS!
by trojamy ,Dec 04 '06
Pros: Very good suction, no back ache because it's an upright. Cons: It OVERHEATS, the extendable hose is flimsy and broke not long after I bought it.
I bought a DC07 4 years ago. I use it once a week, so it's definitely not overworked. A few months after the extended guarantee had expired, it started to overheat and cut out. I have to leave it for around 15 minutes or more to cool down. Then it runs again for 10 minutes and cuts out again. This is a very frustrating machine, and I will never buy another one!

great idea! too much brushing pulled up my carpet
by melamom ,Jan 23 '07
Pros: great picking up dog hair Cons: doesn't get the sand that kills your carpet
I bought this and immediately loved it. But, after only two weeks of daily use (i have a dog and cat and two kids) the beater brush was pulling up my carpet! In two places in my house!
I was really bummed, I returned it, but of course got hit with that darned restocking fee. We invested in the Kirby and have been happy ever since.

I Wish I Knew About The Dyson Sooner!
by laurenec ,Oct 03 '04
Pros: Incredible suction power, attachments/cannister easy to use, extra long cord, gets ALL pet hair Cons: As far as I'm concerned, there aren't any. The price is well worth it.
The Dyson DCO7 Animal Upright Vacuum is the best vacuum I have ever used. I have had the unfortunate experience over the last few years of owning a Dirt Devil, a Hoover and a bagless Eureka which left burn marks on my carpet and didn't pick up half the hair from my two dogs and cat. I read about the Dyson DCO7 Animal Upright and figured I'd give it a try. Am I glad I did. The suction power is incredible. The directions are simple, it comes almost completely assembled, the attachments are sturdy and easy to use, the cannister is very simple to empty, the cord is extra long which allows me to reach several rooms at a time, and above all it picks up ALL the hair. I highly recommend the Dyson, especially if you have pets. It is well worth the price.

My second Dyson
by grahamf ,Jan 18 '06
Pros: Looks, suction and convenience of use is very good. Cons: Very expensive, components break with unacceptable frequency.
My second Dyson in 5 years.(DC01 and this DC 07)
Both were excellent whilst they lasted but that was the problem. Both suffered from plastic component failure within 30 months of new. Hoses, attachments, belts, handles, wheels and in the case of the DC 01, the motor all gave up shortly after the warranty expired.
The unnecessarily complicated way the belts are fitted summarises the difficulty of conducting simple self repairs. Good news for Dyson Agents I guess.
Shame about the poor reliability because they really do suck well when they work. I would not now, buy another Dyson.

Outstanding vacuum
by c_avery ,Feb 21 '05
Pros: Suction, warranty, style, tools lifetime filters Cons: Wish hose didn't connect the way that it does, you get used to it.
This vacuum is better than its price, and that is saying something at around $400!! Our old Dirt Devil kicked the bucket about 2 weeks ago, and we really wrestled with the thought of paying this much money for a vacuum, but we are glad we did. The best example I can give is that we vacuumed our living room floor when we got home from the store with this vacuum. We were amazed at the amount of dirt that this vacuum was able to pull out of what we thought was our relatively clean carpet. Our 4 children actually sat around the living room watching with anticipation as the dirt entered the dirt canister and swirled around. Anything that can get our kids sitting around watching the vacuum is amazing in and of itself. Our 4 boys (11,10, twin 3 year olds) usually run the other way when house work is being done.

Dyson Believer
by elliewright55 ,Apr 28 '06
Pros: Good suction, good features, very easy to use, customer service was very helpful as well. Cons: It is expensive
Love this machine! I've had it two years and still runs great.
Two things I want to point out as negatives -
1. Hose should be a touch longer.
2. I have to clean the filter much more often than six months.
That's it. Everything else about this machine is fabulous!

Dyson sucks - NOT
by jmkowalczyk ,Mar 22 '07
Pros: The Animal has a long cord, and is fairly lightweight and quiet. Cons: Cord is not retractable, poor suction, dusty when emptying, attachments kept falling off.
I had this vacuum for two years. I have one dog with long hair. In the beginning it seemed to work okay. but after a short time, it was not picking up much of anything. I would have to vacuum a spot over and over and then eventually end up picking up whatever it was by hand. It seemed to work if you looked in the canister - it picked up the dog hair - it just left everything else on the carpet! It was a very expensive mistake - one that I have corrected!

Dyson - Not all it's cracked up to be
by klchieri ,Mar 22 '07
Pros: I like the power of the vacuum and the ergonomics. Cons: It does lose suction when it needs to be cleaned. Beater bar bends easily.
With all the media hype about this vacuum you would think it would outperform all the others..NOT! First 4 months the clutch went out and the beater bar bent. The repairman said it is a common ailment. You have to be very diligent in cleaning this vacuum. I bought a Dyson because I wanted a better vacuum. I don't like having to be so careful about not bending the beater bar and keeping it so very clean. We use an air compressor to blow out the internal filters regularly.

Will suck the chrome off your tail pipe
by seaneblack ,May 31 '05
Pros: Sucks big time. Looks awesome. Conversation piece. Cons: Using the attachments is a little daunting.
This is a great vacuum. Not only is it a great piece of pop-art, but it can suck up dog hair like no bodies business. We had a Eureka before and it would not even put a dent in the hair our dog left on the carpet.
As for the pop-art aspect, we leave it on display in our living room - that is how much we like how it looks

Animal Dyson
by iwhiten ,May 23 '05
Pros: Ease and effectiveness of use Cons: Pricey but worth it-hope the plastic holds up
I never thought my husband and I would argue who gets to vacuum the house, we vacuum twice a week, due to pets. But after my Rainbow was in the shop again for repairs, I needed to get a back up vacuum and I wanted an up-right, for quick clean ups. Only this in not my back up anymore, we use it most of the time. It's a pleasure to use an effective vacuum and not go thru the extent of set up and clean up with my old Rainbow (15 years plus). The emptying is a breeze, we couldn't be more happy!

Disappointed
by hismuse ,Jan 14 '07
Pros: Bag less is nice Cons: Little suction
We were given this vacuum by my mother as a gift and we were very excited to have a top of the line vacuum cleaner. We were surprised to find out the suction wasn't very good and to make any progress we had to run over the same area several times. Since it's the only one we have and cannot afford to buy another one it is doing the job alright but we expected better.

Buy it at Sams club!
by noahdelaneymom ,Mar 12 '05
Pros: The animal tool, suction, overall its awesome Cons: None worth noting.
We bought our Dyson at Sam's Club for $415.00--They sell it as the 'DC07 Full Kit Vacuum' and it comes with the floor tool and the Animal tool (which is Awesome). So it is essentially the same thing as the Animal, but cheaper than anywhere else!
And as for those negative reviews about the Animal tool not working...are you people crazy? They must have tweed covered furniture and there pets must live on them! We have two very small children, and two very big, heavily shedding dogs--an Akita and a Lab-Retreiver mix. The animal tool works like magic on our micro-suede couches and the floor tool does fantastic on our new wood laminate floors. The carpets have never been cleaner and I no longer cringe when my 6 month old rolls around on the carpet because I know its clean!!
Don't listen to ANY of those bad reviews...those people must be crazy!

This machine SUCKS!....really!
by boomerfriend ,Jun 07 '05
Pros: The suction is terrific. Anyone with a pet should own this machine. Cons: Colors are weird. However, they're the AZ Diamondback colors so I've adjusted.
Boy, this has got to be the very best vacuum I have ever owned. Obsessa was right....
The only drawback I've found is converting it to the attachments is a bit cumbersome.
I have a Golden Retriever. He sheds massively two times a year and small amounts throughout the year. This vacuum is my saving grace. My old vacuum would get clogged from all the hair. With this machine, I know the carpet is clean.
I also love the bagless feature.
Well worth the money. I would recommend this machine to anyone. I will not own another Hoover, Eureka, Kirby or Kenmore. They don't hold a candle to the suction on the Dyson.
