Pros: Great vacuum Cons: Pray you never need to have it repaired.
A great vacuum until it doesn't work. I live alone - vacuum every other week. Just within the 1 year warranty the vacuum began stalling out while in use. I called Dyson, was told it would be covered by warranty and referred to an authorized repair shop. ...

Pros: None for cleaning carpet. It's good on bare floors. Cons: Very over-advertised, over-rated vacuum. Very flimsy. Plastic snaps hold it together not screws.
Using a DC-17 I found that the pick up on plush carpets was average at best. I also noticed a great deal of carpet fuzz that appeared to be shaved off the top of the carpet(not the normal bleed off of overwoven strands you get with most vacuum ...

Pros: Doesn't lose suction as you vacuum. Cons: Doesn't start out with adequate suction
When I first opened the box, I was disappointed by how toy-like all the parts were. It's also very heavy, especially since my last few vacuums were Orecks. Turning in it on, it was pretty loud but not the loudest. I found it very hard to maneuver, ...

Pros: No bags or filter to buy, does pick up dirt alot of vacuums don't. Cons: Outrageous price for its cheap plastic construction! Heavy, not good for stairs, suction just ok
I saw this vacuum advertised on television and heard what a great vacuum it was supposed to be. One night when we were in Lowe's, there was a lady demonstrating it because it was on sale. She was selling them like hotcakes!! They didn't even have any ...

Pros: It sucks well! Cons: It breaks instantly The support sucks The warranty is worthless STAY AWAY! Put your money elsewhere!
I just purchased a Dyson DC-17 "Animal" vacuum cleaner. I decided to go with Dyson because I had heard good things about their warranties, their customer service, and the actual quality of their products. My company has a special employee store ...

Pros: the "wow" factor, maybe in the beginning Cons: Price, extremely heavy, hard to find replacement parts, destroys carpet, emptying cannister is unhealthy.
After our daughter was born my husband and I wanted to invest in new vacuum. Being new parents and having a baby crawling around on the floor we were more aware of the ground in dirt that was in our carpets. We also had a dog, who shed, and ...

Pros: Canister fills up quickly, must be picking up everything. Cons: Heavy, difficult turning, clogs, need air compressor to unclog
I should have listened to my instincts and returned the Dyson DC17 Animal after day one. I have 3 rooms to vacuum, and they are not huge rooms. But each room required a trip to the garbage can and a "cleaning process" at minimum 3 times. ...

This is the ONE! An Absolute Animal!
by jc2ski ,Jul 28 '07
Pros: Suction power, user friendly, low emissions, a great vacuum! Cons: Initial cost (but no bags or filters to buy once purchased)
This vacuum is the ONE! My husband and I returned the Dyson Animal Ball DC15 due to a hideous noise! We purchased the newer Dyson Animal DC17 instead and LOVE IT! This vacuum has AMAZING power, it is user friendly, is lighter in weight than the other Dysons, and it costs $50 less than the Animal Ball. And you cannot beat the lifetime HEPA filter and the very low emissions--any vacuum that is good for the environment is good for all of us!
P.S. You can use the 20% off coupon at Bed, Bath, and Beyond and save $110.00 (we did)!

Didn't get it for the wedding, so bought it ourselves.
by zaysea997 ,Sep 21 '07
Pros: Attachments are very easy! Cons: None, this vacuum is a dream!
I've been wanting a Dyson for a very long time. I have two dogs, and 1 long haired cat, not to mention the husband, the daughter, the younger sister and the nephew that all are contained in 1200 square feet. My Hoover Fold Away just wasn't keeping up with the mess. I have to say, it was the best money I've ever spent! It keeps up with the kids and the pets. My favorite part is the attachments, it's so nice to not have bend over and switch so many things to get on my stairs. Truly I would recommend this to anyone looking for a new vacuum. Yes it's a lot of money, but it is worth every red cent.

The Proof is in the Canister!
by fabermn ,Jun 12 '08
Pros: Excellent Suction, no bags, washable filter, easy setup, it CLEANS Cons: Heavy - pricey
I can't even begin to tell you how much I am already in love with this vacuum cleaner - and I just bought it yesterday! I have only vacuumed one room so far and just had to get on line and write a review. After a very quick and pain free set up I have put this "animal" to the test and it has far exceeded my expectations. I was very leary about spending the $$ but after going through Windtunnel after Windtunnel I said enough was enough. This Dyson DC17 Absoulte Animal ROCKS! And to think my cleaning people, who come every two weeks were here, not kidding, yesterday, the canister is FULL of dirt and pet hair - AMAZING. With 3 boys, a dog and a husband who trek in dirt all the time, this vacuum is going to get a workout and I am happy to say that I am glad to have spent the extra $ and am pleased to see that despite it being in use for 1/2 an hour - it has surpassed and outperformed my skeptisims! Go get yourself one!!!

Pros: strong vacuum. easy to use. everything goes together well with no problems. Cons: it is expensive and it would be great if it could be packed away smaller.

A bit expensive, but well worth it.
by qcn88exr ,Dec 10 '06
Pros: Clean-up a breeze, Spectacular suction, useful attachments Cons: Wish the cord was retractable.
When we built our new home we included a top of the line central vac system, within in a year the motor had burned out. We decided to spend a little more and purchase the Dyson DC17, we have no regrets. You will be amazed by the debris this machine pulls from your carpet. It leaves your floors free of even the tiniest of dust particles that can aggravate allergies and just like the commercials say, you will not loose suction. The clean-up is so easy and mess-free, it is nice to be able to see what the vacuum is actually sucking up. It comes with a variety of really useful attachments, my favorite is the stair and upholstery attachment. Yes, you are spending a little more for a vacuum, but it is well worth it to have a visibly cleaner and allergen-free home with this vacuum.

Good-bye Kirby!
by wmsd ,Feb 12 '08
Pros: really gets the pet hair, easy to use Cons: price
Just bought this vacuum and my son immediately used it on our family room rug. I could not believe the dirt and dog hair it got up with relative ease. He then used it on the hall and another room upstairs. Anything that can get him to clean is worth its price in gold! The ultimate test was a navy blue runner that I have been trying to get the dog hairs out of. It worked better than I could imagine. My husband says it was nice to get a product that finally does exactly what it says. As to its weight...I had a Kirby! Now that was heavy, this does not compare!

I'm Sold
by kokopelli80 ,Jan 06 '08
Pros: Great suction, long cord, easy to empty canister, quiet, great attachments, ONE FILTER FOREVER!! Cons: Not sure if I like how the attachments attach, but I'll get over it.
Great Suction! Made my carpets look new again. I couldn't believe what my old vacuum was leaving behind. I also love the mini turbine head, I've never had anything that would take the cat hair off of my couch so well. It was a bit spendy, but if I take into consideration how many vacuums, bags, and filters I've purchased in the last 10 years this will pay for itself in no time. Take it from me I have 3 cats and a two year old, you can't go wrong.

The Dyson DC17 First Time Use Feedback
by cotandem ,Jul 21 '08
Pros: Cleans carpet like no other, useful for all surfaces, super powerful Cons: Heavy, costly, takes getting used to from previous vacuum cleaners, useless owners manual
Used our new Dyson DC17 for the first time last night. I found the results, in a word, amazing! I had just vacuumed three days ago with our Eureka which we have been using for 2 years. Always thought it did a decent job. But after using the Dyson it is clear I thought wrong. It is just my wife and me, and two cats. We are clean people. The Dyson tells me our cats shed a lot that was not being picked up before. Plus I like the ability to go from carpet to tile floor by simply turning off the rolling brush feature. Out of the box, it looks like no other vacuum cleaner I have used. In fact, a bit intimidating at first. I doubt my older parents would have the patience to figure it out. The owners manual is good for the pictures only. Online is no better. Still not sure of the use of the attachments, or if I really will use them/need them. But again, my first impressions are really strong. Appears to be worth the money (a lot).
