Earthlink Web Hosting

Pros: None at all...the only " pro " about Earthlink is the " pro" in "pro"blems
Cons: Total blind eye for customer needs and a deaf ear to any complaints or problems...

Pros: They were excellent for about 5 years, until 2005.
Cons: They charged $800+ instead of $21/month, admitted their error and would not credit me.

In September 2006, I reduced one of my web sites to the starter site level because I was paying for more than I needed and needed to save $15/month. I arranged the transfer with Earthlink and was assured my fee would be about $20 a month. The next month ...

Pros: Used to be great. Tech support is easily reachable 24/7.
Cons: Wait 24-72 hours to see IF problem resolved. Multiple tech supports have differing explanations.

I have been a loyal Earthlink customer, recommending Earthlink to many others for hosting based on their excellent support.

However, tech support and site maintenance has deteriorated to such an extent, that I wouldn't recommend Earthlink to anyone.

The final straw was when after six weeks of calls and tech support, I was able to get a site up and running before I left on vacation. When I was on vacation, the site mysteriously went down and was replaced by a 404 error. Tech support denied that anything had happened and every time I called for support, I was given a different explanation. When the problems were eventually acknowledged, I was told that it would be "escalated to the engineers" for repair within 24-72 hours. I was told this line over 6 times without a repair! Each time a different reason was given...1) it wasn't escalated properly, or 2) the problem was more complex or 3) the issue was a problem on MY end!

I have spent approximately 60 hours trying to get a simple DNS change to work and it's still not working 6 weeks later. I give up and am quitting my once beloved Earthlink!
