Pros: affordable, large dealer network, good handling and weight Cons: questionable quality in recent models, bump head bottoms wear out quickly in pro use
I have used Echo trimmers, blowers, hedge trimmers, and edgers in my business for over 12 years now. I have generally been satisfied, but in the last couple of years I have been less so. This model is a mid price range (around $300) unit, that ...

srm-260S review
by garyanders ,Sep 30 '06
Pros: Very smooth compared to the RedMax with plenty of power. Cons: Catalytic converter in muffler and trigger lock on top of handle.
This is the 3rd Echo I have owned and have been pretty well pleased. I purchased a RedMax 3001S but it had too much vibration so I took it back and got me the Echo SRM-260S. It has alot less vibration than the RedMax and plenty of power. This unit replaces my SRM-2601 that I purchased 6 years ago. From now on I am going to stick with Echo as I was very disappointed with the RedMax unit.

great trimmer ECHOmodel SRM 260-S
by nehmianathan ,Jun 16 '06
Pros: fast response, built to last for many years. Cons: weight but I guess lightweight trimmers have been junk for the most part.
A little on the heavy side but won't stall when it counts have the SRM-260-S with brush attachment(a $69.95 option)will cut down trees 3 inches in diameter or larger, has a long reach.

Echo 260 - Not as good as I expected
by reviewerlarry ,Apr 18 '08
Pros: Plenty Powerful. When working, gets the job done. Cons: Lousy head unit. Poor cylinder head design (spark plug location). Kinda heavy.
I purchased one 2 years ago. From what I read, I expected a trouble-free unit.
That has not been my experience.
The head on this thing is a nightmare. It continuously locks up, de-spools the line, doesn't feed right, etc...
Yes, I'm loading it right :)
This year I'm installing a Grass Gator head.
Secondly, I do not like the design of the engine cylinder head. Unlike most trimmers that have the spark plug on the back or on top, pointing to the right, this one has it on the top pointed to the left. Right where your arm likes to hit.
Ever been hit with the voltage from a spark plug?

Pro quality at a price
by tulsa-medic ,Apr 28 '04
Pros: Lots of pwoer to spare, Solid shaft, not a cable. Cons: Exspensive parts, air filter is $12 bucks!
I bought my used echo srm-260 for $140 used. Loked like new so i took it. Its been good and always starts within 1-4 pulls.
Preventive manitinece and fresh fuel is a must. Always use a good brand 2 cycle oil like echo brand or stihl brand.
I have an acre and it is a great trimmer.
A little over kill for me but what the heck.
